Chapter 338 - Chapter 338 Chapter 334 Store Manager
Chapter 338: Chapter 334: Store Manager Chapter 338: Chapter 334: Store Manager By the time Fang Xiaocao led Steal Kasaya and Hei Ta, following the sound of gunfire to the plaza, the battle here was already over.
Looking at the mess, the plaza strewn with tainted blood and shattered flesh, Fang Xiaocao nearly vomited.
That pungent smell of blood was simply worse than Steal Kasaya’s breath.
Disgusting just wasn’t enough to describe the odor.
“My god!”
“How many people died here?”
Fang Xiaocao exclaimed.
Seeing Fang Xiaocao, Taotie cracked a grin.
“Not too many!”
“A little over three hundred, I guess!”
“They were all unregistered residents from the black market.”
“They must be children traded from all around the world by the Pawnshop guys, their own cultivated disciple assassins. All skin colors included.”
Taotie was as casual as ever.
It was as if the dead were not people.
But merely a few hundred ants, easily dismissed.
Hearing Taotie’s words, Fang Xiaocao was startled.
Fang Xiaocao had not expected that a mere branch of the Pawnshop could harbor hundreds of people, not to mention those they imprisoned, ready to harvest organs from at any moment.
Fang Xiaocao composed herself before asking, “Is that all of them?”
“Any that got away?”
Taotie shook his head: “None!”
“Old Tom said, these were just small fries. The real power of the Pawnshop hasn’t shown up yet.”
“Despite the death toll, not a single expert among them, second-rate at best.”
Taotie’s words left Fang Xiaocao secretly astounded.
Good lord!
It’s as if this was just the initial phase of the dungeon–a clearing of the minor mobs, with the real big bosses and their elite minions yet to appear.
Fang Xiaocao thought it was a bit too outrageous.
She gained a new understanding of the Dark World.
This was far more terrifying than she had ever imagined.
“Princess Your Highness, the true elites of the Pawnshop are watching us!”
Tom came over, smiling as he spoke.
At these words, Fang Xiaocao was startled.
She quickly looked up, glancing around.
Seeking the elites of the Pawnshop that Tom was referring to.
“Hahaha…”
“Princess Your Highness, they are not here.”
“Over there!”
Tom said cheerfully.
As he spoke, Tom raised a hand and pointed.
Fang Xiaocao instinctively followed his gaze.
She saw to her front left, a 360deg wide-angle camera, its red light flashing as the lens moved back and forth between them, seemingly capturing their faces.
Seeing this, Fang Xiaocao frowned.
Too late!
They had all been captured by the surveillance camera.
It would be difficult to hide in the shadows from now on.
Her face and those of her companions were likely already on the Pawnshop’s hit list.
They might even be placed on some sort of bounty list.
Or, possibly, a rewards notice.
“Don’t bother thinking about it, there’s no way around it!”
Seeing the concern in Fang Xiaocao’s eyes, Tom smiled, “This surveillance camera, as soon as it spots someone in the plaza, takes only a second to capture their facial image and transmit it in real-time. It’s simply unavoidable.”
“Even if we smash this camera now and kill our way into their monitoring room, it’s too late. The information has already been sent out.”
Hearing Tom’s words, Fang Xiaocao felt resigned. She had actually been wondering if smashing the camera now would be soon enough.
But listening to Tom, she realized she had been naive.
However, Fang Xiaocao didn’t take the matter too seriously. Was it not just a step out from the shadows into the light?
It wasn’t that big of a deal.
She was meant to rise to fame eventually!
It was just a matter of sooner or later. After all, she already had three top assassins among her followers; she wasn’t afraid of being exposed!
“Princess Your Highness, let’s go meet them,”
Tom said, gesturing towards the camera, a smile on his face.
Fang Xiaocao gave a slight smile and nodded.
“Lead the way ahead!”
Tom smiled and walked towards a staircase that hadn’t collapsed.
Taotie immediately followed.
Carrying Strange Dagger, he walked shoulder to shoulder with Tom.
“Hei Ta, you go in front!”
Xiaocao ordered in English.
Hei Ta nodded and strode forward.
Xiaocao and Hummingbird trailed at the end.
Beside them was the simple-minded Steal Kasaya.
Xiaocao was now very confident.
With her group’s lineup, they could venture into any dragon’s den and cut their way in and out seven times.
Just a top assassin and ten first-class assassins, right?
In the past, Xiaocao would have been scared.
She would have chosen to avoid the sharp edge for a while.
Now, it’s they who should be scared.
This handful of people, it’s simply not enough for a massacre.
They ascended the stairs.
After climbing what felt like two floors,
Xiaocao and her companions finally met the biggest boss of their journey, the Store Manager of the Pawnshop branch, an old grandfather with a full head of silver hair, a straight back, and a face full of deep wrinkles.
Although the Store Manager was very old,
his aura was very strong.
Not even a bit inferior to Taotie.
Xiaocao could not even imagine what this Store Manager must have been like in his prime – it was possible he had already surpassed the top tier, right?
In her mind, Xiaocao thought of the phrase, “Old but still as vigorous as Huang Zhong, capable of slaying generals.”
This Store Manager was definitely a dangerous person, a very frightening existence.
Seeing the Store Manager, Taotie, Tom and the others all showed wary expressions simultaneously.
Even Steal Kasaya had its fur on end.
It stared fixedly at the Store Manager, emitting a threatening growl.
“Miss, we finally meet!”
“I’d like to ask, who gave you the guts to go against our Pawnshop and kill so many of our people?” the Store Manager asked with a sneer.
“What’s so special about the Pawnshop?”
“Is it very impressive?”
“How impressive can it be?”
Before Xiaocao could speak, Taotie took the lead and retorted.
When it comes to fighting, Taotie fears no one.
And in a war of words, he’s also the Mouth-strong King.
The Store Manager had commenced with trying to intimidate them, attempting to win without a fight.
He wanted to steal the initiative, putting Xiaocao and her group on the defensive.
But the actions that seemed strong on the surface from the Store Manager,
actually revealed his fear.
Facing so many experts, he felt uneasy.
He was probably trying to intimidate Xiaocao first,
before playing some devious tricks.
Taotie, rough yet insightful, saw this clearly. He deliberately didn’t play along with the Store Manager’s rhetoric and started the confrontation straight away.
“You…”
The Store Manager was choked with anger, his face clouding with rage.
But he quickly regained his composure.
“Miss, is this how you discipline your subordinates? The master hasn’t spoken yet, and he’s already barking?” he said with a chuckle.
In one sentence, he likened Taotie to a dog.
And with double meaning, he belittled Xiaocao.
Implying that she was not strict in her command.
“Old thing, does your house sit by the sea?”
“You’re sticking your nose where it doesn’t belong?”
“Just send your men over already, what’s with all this pointless talk?”
Taotie scoffed, pointing at the Store Manager’s nose, and cursed loudly.
The Store Manager, provoked by Taotie, glared with round, angry eyes, unable to contain his temper any longer.
The Store Manager, accustomed to luxury and to receiving utmost respect from everyone, had never been subjected to such humiliation.
