Chapter 69: Monseryan Monster: Skyrender [3]
The wind accompanied his motion, the atmosphere suddenly tense and hot.
The Skyrender could only stare at Axel, his face in shock, scared as hell.
Axel looked at him and, seeing the fear, felt accomplishment because, frankly, that was what he wanted. He wanted fear. He wanted the villain to be shaken, and now, it wasn’t only shaken, but scared?
Axel could only force a smile inside.
Chrysa was stretching her hands out now, forward. Doing so, a metallic-looking axe appeared on it, pointy and sharp.
Axel looked at it and nodded.
This was looking nice.
Already feeling like he was in heaven, he saw with the corner of his eyes—
The monster moving his right hand to press a button by the side of its hands.
Now, what was the possibility?
Firstly (more apparently). If the monster was to click that button, the other Monseryan monsters would be summoned.
Axel’s eyes were wide open. He almost panicked.
Secondly, they would be dead. And by they, not only him and Chrysa, but also his father and the others.
He quickly threw a glance at Chrysa. By the way her face looked, it was obvious she didn’t know what was coming her way. She was still looking all brave and like someone that saw victory.
Well, he saw something else. He was seeing defeat. And why wouldn’t he?
With the monster knowing it’s toast (going to be defeated), why wouldn’t it give up on collecting shards and... you know. Now, it’d be more focused on saving itself, which would be to call the others and abandon whatever it was that he wanted to do.
Axel felt a surge of pressure now, and without hesitating or even thinking twice, he dashed forward, in a svelte move—one so slender it seemed impossible to do.
KICK!
The sound of a breaking bone echoed through the place.
Axel had kicked the hand and, seemingly, it was like he had broken it a little bit.
Axel didn’t hesitate. Now, the key point he needed to note in fighting this monster was never to hesitate. Because if he did, a click would end it. A click would kill him.
Punch!
Kick!
Slap!
Kick again!
Punch again!
Double punch!
Chrysa watched Axel beat the monster brutally. She was shocked even, because she had not expected that. To her, it was too much?
She had expected they’d go together on the monster, but now, watching him doing it alone, she was genuinely shocked.
It seemed like he had lost it.
But then, she thought again. Something must have made him do it.
Something must have triggered him to go full force on the monster.
Something...
What was it!
Axel’s voice tore through the air:
"He’s going to click a button! He’s going to call the others! We must stop him!"
Chrysa understood now, and she wasted no time in joining him, her aim being simply to destroy the button and avoid any risk.
The monster seemed to be weak because, in the fight, its punches were very slow. Its reaction too—very slow. It seemed to be completely dazed and fazed, and so, in no time, Chrysa had seamlessly destroyed the button, falling down to catch her breath after she was done.
The monster seemed to be infuriated by that, and so it pushed Axel backward. With a great amount of force, Axel had to hit his head on the ground and tumble backward.
The monster was ranting now:
"Curse you guys! Damn you guys!"
Axel must have felt a bit of a headache from the push because now, he was holding his head, stunned by the monster’s move.
The dreading question that came to his mind was:
’Has the monster regained form? If so, damnit!’
The monster crouched, his sight facing down, its breathing suddenly calm.
"I really thought you guys were among the weakest of human superheroes, but as it seems, you are among the most powerful," the monster began.
Axel stared at it, starting to get worried now.
Why was he being praised?
For a second there, he and Chrysa exchanged puzzled looks.
And then, happening rather too fast, the monster raised its face up and stared at him, grinning.
"That’s why I used the weakest version of myself."
That stunned Axel completely. He didn’t know when he muttered:
"Damn this cursed realm."
And then, the Skyrender monster stood up. Its body towered, monolithic and still, its face so grim Axel felt the creeps. Then it began to move.
Its limbs twitched with stiff, deliberate motion, joints locking and unlocking in a geometric loo-like rhythm, sickening to the eyes.
Axel, watching the movements, could only mutter:
"No, no, no!"
Plates along its legs hissed as they folded inward, clicking against hidden things that apparently seemed like latches. The arms pulled close to its sides, cracking at the elbows as they shortened, each motion insanely impressive and so mechanical!
Its wings curled forward, not for flight, but to cover its chest like massive armored gauntlets. Spines along its back sank into socket-like stufs (they could be another thing entirely though, but let’s just say sockets), vanishing with a sensational sound (something you just can’t describe). The creature’s face vibrated, like it was being washed inside a washing machine, the hard ridges smoothing out into a sleek (very smooth stuff) mask-like surface, devoid of eyes or mouth, but carrying a terrifying-looking gaze.
From behind its shoulders, new plating came out, thick and jagged stuffs, layering itself like pauldrons. Its stance was erect, perched toward Axel’s face.
Axel and Chrysa stood up now, complete shock on their faces, bracing themselves for a fight.
And now, the monster stood tall, no longer a Skyrender anymore.
It was still a Skyrender though, but an advanced one.
It was now times one its former size, not so enormous but yet, averagely gigantic. And when it breathed, it came like a storm on Axel and Chrysa.
The monster’s gaze hardened. It said in an electronic-like (still his former voice but now an electronic version) voice:
"Now, you face something on your level!"
