Chapter 67: A Man Of Many Talents
The morning sun streamed through the sheer curtains, casting a warm glow on Lyse’s face. She stirred, her eyelids fluttering open. Levi was beside her, his gaze fixed on her with an intensity that made her heart flutter. A soft smile played on his lips as he leaned in, pressing a gentle kiss to her forehead.
"Good morning, beautiful," he murmured, his voice husky with sleep.
Lyse smiled back, snuggling closer to him. "Morning, Levi."
She was surprised and grateful for the lack of awkwardness the morning after. Her body ached, she was sore in sensitive places and she felt a little shy but Levi made her feel comfortable.
He pulled her closer against him, the warmth of their bodies and the comfort of each other’s presence soothing their souls. As the sun climbed higher, they reluctantly pulled apart, the lingering warmth of their embrace still lingering in the air.
"I am going to make breakfast," Levi announced, rising from the bed. "You just relax."
Lyse watched him with amusement and raised an eyebrow. "You, cook breakfast?" she teased. "This I definitely have to see."
Levi grinned. "I am a man of many talents, my darling."
Together they went to the kitchen where Mrs Evelyn was. To her credit she did not bat an eyelash at seeing Lyse wearing what was obviously Levi’s shirt after spending a night for the first time in his room.
"Good morning Mr Levi, good morning Mrs Lyse." She greeted. "Is there something you would like me to prepare for you to eat this morning?" She asked.
"No, Mrs Evelyn." Levi answered, "I will be in charge of the kitchen this morning."
Her eyes widened momentarily then she nodded and left them alone. Lyse climbed one of the stools at the kitchen island and rested her chin on her hands while she watched as Levi went around the kitchen busily.
As he put on an apron, Lyse admired him as his T-shirt stretched over his muscular back. He certainly looked good for someone his age, he even looked better than men who were younger than he was.
She was treated to a show as Levi expertly handled the knife when chopping up ingredients for breakfast. She was entranced by the way his biceps bulged and flexed while he worked, to the point that she started to fear that she was drooling.
"You really do know how to cook?" she exclaimed, her eyes wide with astonishment when he placed a plate in front of her.
Levi chuckled smugly and said. "I learned a few things from my grandmother. She was an amazing cook."
As they sat down to eat, Lyse could not help but marvel at the delicious meal Levi had prepared. The hollandaise he had poured over the eggs Benedict was silky and smooth, the bacon crispy, and the coffee rich and flavorful. It was the perfect way to start the day.
"This is actually amazing, Levi," she said, her voice filled with sincerity. "You are a natural."
Levi grinned, pleased with her reaction. "I’m glad you like it. I wanted to make something special for you."
She looked at him with pleasure, glad to realize that they were a lot more layers under his playboy CEO persona.
"Maybe if you had told me that you were a great cook I would have agreed to your proposal immediately." She teased and he laughed loudly.
Ethan hesitated at the doorway, unsure if he should interrupt the unusual scene unfolding before him. His boss, the usually stern and serious Levi, was laughing, a rare sight that caught Ethan off guard and had his jaw almost hitting the ground.
Lyse looked and caught sight of him. "Oh, hi Ethan." She said.
Levi stiffened. His smile fading as he turned to see his employee, his annoyance blatantly evident.
"How did you get in here?" He asked rudely.
"Err.. the erm... butler let me in, sir." Ethan stammered.
He had been enjoying the rare opportunity of being at work without Levi being there. It was unbelievable that his boss could give up work which was his life for a woman.
He had unfortunately had to come to the house since Levi had not been answering his calls. And from his boss’s counternance, he could see that he was not welcome.
Levi on the other hand was thinking of how he could go somewhere that butlers did not let in invasive assistants that interrupted his time with his wife. He figured they could go to a resort since they had not had a honeymoon, he wondered where Lyse would like to visit.
"Sorry to interrupt sir, but there is something urgent," Ethan ventured, his voice barely a whisper and Levi narrowed his eyes.
"Can’t it wait?" He asked, his tone impatient.
Lyse, sensing the tension, gently nudged Levi’s arm. "Listen to what he has to say, Levi. It might be important."
Levi sighed, but reluctantly nodded. The scowl still on his face. "Fine, but make it quick. We can talk in the study."
When Ethan scurried off, Levi turned around with an apologetic look. He hated that his time with Lyse had been interrupted, he felt like she was just beginning to let her defenses down with him.
Lyse smiled understandingly. "It’s okay, Levi. Business is important. Go on, I will be here when you get back. It’s not like I’m going anywhere."
Levi kissed her forehead and left, feeling more annoyance. A part of him wished he could just stay with Lyse, forget about work, and enjoy the simple pleasures of life.
When he went into the study, Ethan quickly got to his feet. He could feel the hostile air coming from Levi and he suspected it was because he had interrupted his morning with Lyse. He would never have believed that his boss could be the consummate husband, it was like looking at a different person.
"Well, what is it, Ethan?" Levi asked, his voice stern as he sat behind his desk.
"It’s about Ted Davis, He has finally agreed to meet with you."
Levi’s eyes widened. "Finally? After all this time?"
Ted Davis was a gifted programmer that Levi had been trying to get on his team. He had proved elusive for so long, so he was excited to hear that he had reached out.
Ethan nodded. "He says that he is available but only for today..." he glanced anxiously at Levi, "I have already scheduled the meeting."
Levi hesitated, torn between his desire to spend more time with Lyse and the opportunity to secure a potentially groundbreaking partnership. On a different day he would have gone off immediately to meet with Ted but today he was very reluctant.
"Fine. I will go," he said, his voice heavy with reluctance.
Ethan nodded and left the study. As soon as he was gone, Levi went back to Lyse. "I am sorry, I have to go to work."
