Chapter 221: The Queen Of The Night

The heavy metal door of the detention center clanged shut behind Brooke, the sound echoing through the sterile, dimly lit hallway. She stood there for a moment, blinking against the harsh fluorescent lights, her mind still reeling from the events of the past few hours. The humiliation of being arrested, the coldness of the jail cell, the fear that had gnawed at her insides – it was all still so vivid, so raw.

Suddenly, a figure emerged from the shadows, the familiar silhouette a beacon of hope in the bleak surroundings. Lottie, her savior. Relief washed over Brooke, so potent it almost made her weak. She rushed towards Lottie, her steps faltering slightly.

"Lottie!" she exclaimed, her voice cracking with emotion. "You came."

Lottie’s expression was a mixture of relief and exasperation. She embraced Brooke tightly, her hug conveying a silent reprimand. "Of course I came, darling," she said, her voice laced with concern. "What else could I do? Leave you here alone?"

She pulled back slightly, her eyes searching Brooke’s face. "But what on earth possessed you, Brooke? What were you thinking? Confronting Lyse like that, in her office, with witnesses? It was incredibly foolish and I know i taught you better."

Brooke’s shoulders slumped. She knew Lottie was right. It had been a reckless, impulsive act, driven by jealousy and anger. But at the time, she hadn’t been thinking rationally. She had been consumed by the image of Lyse and Brandon together, the thought of them being close, of them... of them being together was unbearable.

"I... I couldn’t help myself, Lottie," Brooke stammered, her voice trembling slightly. "I saw that video, I couldn’t stand it. I just... I just snapped."

Lottie sighed, her expression softening. She understood Brooke’s insecurities, her deep-seated fear of being replaced, of being left alone. She had seen it before, this desperate need for validation, this constant craving for attention.

"I know, darling," she said gently, taking Brooke’s hand. "But you have to control yourself. You can’t go around confronting her like that, especially not in a public place. It makes you look... desperate and look where it got you."

Brooke bit her lip, her cheeks flushing with shame. She knew she had acted impulsively, irrationally. She had let her emotions get the better of her, and now she was paying the price.

"I’m sorry, Lottie," she mumbled, her voice barely audible. "I didn’t mean to cause any trouble."

Lottie squeezed her hand reassuringly. "I know, darling," she said. "But you have to learn to think before you act. You can’t let your jealousy control you."

"Come on, darling," she said, taking Brooke’s arm. "Let’s go home. You need to rest. We will talk about this later."

They walked out of the detention center, the cool night air a welcome contrast to the stifling atmosphere inside. Lottie’s car was parked nearby, and they quickly got in, the silence between them heavy with unspoken words.

When they arrived home, Lottie led her inside, her arm draped protectively around her shoulders. The house was quiet and empty.

"Go and get changed, darling," Lottie said gently. "I’ll make you some tea."

Brooke nodded, her movements still sluggish. She went to her bedroom, the image of Lyse’s cold, accusing eyes flashing through her mind. She changed into her pajamas, her heart still pounding from the residual adrenaline of the day’s events.

When she returned to the living room, Lottie was waiting for her, a steaming cup of tea in her hand. Brooke took the tea gratefully, the warmth spreading through her cold hands.

They sat in silence for a few minutes, the only sound the soft clinking of their cups. Finally, Lottie spoke, her voice gentle.

"Brooke," she began, "I know you’re upset. I know you’re hurt. But you have to stop focusing on Lyse right now. You’re letting her control your life, your emotions. You can’t keep doing this to yourself."

Brooke looked at her, her eyes filled with a mixture of confusion and resentment. "But... but she keeps trying to take everything from me, Lottie," she said, her voice trembling slightly. "She’s trying to steal Brandon. She’s trying to ruin my life."

Lottie took a sip of her tea, her expression thoughtful. "What does Brandon even have to offer now that we know he was just some bastard’s son?"

Brooke remained silent, her gaze fixed on the swirling tea in her cup. She knew Lottie was right. Brandon could no longer offer her the status and wealth he had as a Marlowe, it was just that she couldn’t help it feeling possessive over him. Most especially when Lyse was involved, it felt like she was winning and she could not stand that.

"What am I supposed to do, Lottie?" she asked finally, her voice barely above a whisper. "I can’t just... ignore her. I can’t just pretend she doesn’t exist."

Lottie smiled slyly. "You don’t have to ignore her, darling," she said. "For now, you have to be in a more powerful position to be able to defeat her."

She paused, her eyes meeting Brooke’s. "You have a big party coming up, Brooke," she said, her voice changing, becoming more enthusiastic. "A party that we have been waiting for months. This is your chance to shine, darling. This is your chance to show everyone how fabulous you are and how wealthy you will be."

Brooke’s eyes lit up slightly at the mention of the party. She had been so preoccupied with Lyse and Brandon that she had almost forgotten about it. It was going to be the biggest event of the year, a lavish affair that would be attended by all the important people in the city. It was her chance to make a statement, to show everyone that she was successful, that she was powerful, that she was... worthy.

"You are right, Lottie," she said, a small smile playing on her lips. "The party. I need to focus on the party."

Lottie smiled warmly. "Exactly, darling," she said. "Forget about Lyse. Forget about Brandon. This is your time to shine. This is your chance to show the world what you’re capable of."

Brooke’s excitement began to build, her mind already racing with ideas. She would wear the most stunning dress, the most dazzling jewelry. She would dance with the most eligible bachelors, she would charm everyone with her wit and her charisma. She would be the center of attention, the queen of the night.

"I’m going to make that party unforgettable, Lottie," she said, her voice filled with determination. "It’s going to be the best party anyone has ever seen."

Lottie nodded, her eyes sparkling with pride. "I know it will, darling," she said. "I have no doubt."

Brooke took a sip of her tea, her mind already filled with images of her triumphant night. She would forget about Lyse, she would forget about Brandon. She would focus on herself, on her own happiness. And she would shine. She would shine so brightly that no one would be able to ignore her.

When she had acquired the wealth that was coming to her, then she would deal with Lyse and crush her to dust.
