Chapter 177: Sunny Disposition

Chapter 177: Sunny Disposition

The first rays of sunlight, peeking through the gap in the curtains, painted stripes across Lyse’s face. She stirred, a soft smile gracing her lips as she nestled closer to Levi. He was still asleep, his arm draped possessively across her waist, his face buried in her hair. The memory of the night before, a tapestry woven with passion and tenderness, warmed her from the inside out.

Levi’s eyes fluttered open, a slow, languid smile spreading across his face as he met her gaze.

"Morning, beautiful." he murmured, his voice still thick with sleep. He tightened his hold on her, pulling her closer until their bodies were flush against each other. "Or, should I say, glorious morning?"

Lyse giggled, her fingers tracing the line of his jaw.

"It certainly was," she agreed, her eyes sparkling with mischief.

Levi nuzzled his face into the crook of her neck, his breath warm against her skin. "You know," he said, his voice laced with a playful whine, "I have just had a most brilliant idea."

Lyse raised an eyebrow, intrigued. "Oh?"

"Yes," he declared. "We should call in sick. Both of us. And spend the entire day right here, in this bed, doing absolutely nothing but... well..." He trailed off, his eyes darkening with desire as he leaned in and kissed her, a slow, lingering kiss that spoke volumes about what he intended to use the sick days.

Lyse humored him, kissing him back with equal passion. She knew exactly what he was suggesting, and the thought of spending the entire day wrapped in his arms, lost in their own little world, was so undeniably tempting. But...

She broke the kiss, a playful smile dancing on her lips. "As much as I would love nothing more than to play hooky with you," she said, her voice laced with regret, "I think we both have responsibilities to attend to, the competition is fast approaching and I still have so much to do."

Levi groaned, burying his face in her pillow. "Responsibilities," he grumbled. "The bane of all pleasure."

Lyse chuckled, gently stroking his hair. "Come on, sleepyhead," she teased. "Don’t tell me the mighty Levi is afraid of a little work?"

He looked up at her, a mischievous glint in his eyes. "Afraid?" he scoffed. "Never. Just... strategically conserving my energy for more important pursuits." He pulled her closer, his lips brushing against hers. "Like this one."

Lyse kissed him again, a quick, playful peck. "You will have all night for ’this’," she promised, wiggling out of his embrace. "But right now, we need to get ready for work. You are a boss and you need to be at the office."

"That is exactly why I am the boss," Levi said slyly. "I get to choose if I want to go to work or not."

When Lyse stared pointedly at Levi with a raised eyebrow.

Levi groaned again, but he did not argue anymore. He knew that she was right. With the way things were at the company he needed to be at the helm of affairs, letting their stakeholders feel more confident. Reluctantly, he swung his legs over the side of the bed and sat up, stretching languidly.

"Fine," he conceded, a hint of resignation in his voice. "But you are going to make it up to me tonight."

Lyse winked. "I would not have it any other way, Mr Van Doren."

As they got ready for work, a comfortable silence settled between them. The air was thick with unspoken promises, with the anticipation of the night to come. Levi’s reluctance to leave was palpable, but beneath the surface, a spring had entered his step. He knew that Lyse would be waiting for him at the end of the day, and the thought of spending the entire night in her arms was enough to put a smile on his face, even as he faced the day ahead.

"Let me take you to work." He said, still very reluctant to leave her side, he was trying his hardest to prolong their time together.

Knowing exactly what he was feeling and feeling the same way, Lyse quietly nodded her agreement. Levi had never taken her to work and it felt so good to ride with him to work.

When they got to her building and Levi tried to go out with her, Lyse put a hand on his chest and pushed him back, stopping him from leaving. She leaned closer and kissed him goodbye, a lingering kiss that left him breathless. "I will be eagerly counting down the minutes," she murmured, her eyes locking with his.

Levi smiled, his heart swelling with love. "Me too," he whispered. "Now go on, get out of here before I change my mind and do all the things I have been imagining doing to you."

Lyse blushed at his suggestive words. "That is exactly what I am afraid of," winking, she continued, "Hold unto that thought." She then came out of the car and walked out the car. Levi watched her until she disappeared through the doors.

After the car drove away and arrived at work, his face cheerfully and his step lighter than it had been in weeks. He had a spring in his step, a renewed sense of purpose. He was going to work, yes, but more importantly, he was also going home to Lyse. And that knowledge made all the difference. He could not wait to get home to her and drink in her intoxicating scent.

With that thought, he walked to his office and put on his computer. Ethan knocked the door and came into the office.

"Good morning sir." Ethan greeted.

"A very wonderful morning to you, my most capable assistant!" Levi greeted enthusiastically, taking Ethan Aback.

He had never seen this excited and giddy version of his boss after working for him for three years. As he pondered on if Levi’s sunny disposition had anything to do with the date he had prepared for him and Lyse the previous night, he was interrupted by the loud cussing that ran out of Levi’s mouth.
