Chapter 139: Only One Way To Find Out

Brooke watched from the window, her heart a churning mix of envy and resentment, as Brandon’s car pulled up to the Chadwick mansion. Seeing Brandon emerge first and go around to help Lyse, looking delicate and vulnerable out of the car, ignited a burning rage within her.

She was itching to go down there and drag Lyse by her hair away from her man. She had worked too hard for Lyse to just swoop in and take away Brandon, she could not stand it and she wanted to erupt hot lava of jealousy.

He had never been that gentle with her, that sweet and caring, even at the height of his attraction to her when they were sneaking around. All he had cared about was ensuring that she kept her mouth shut and never let Lyse know what they were doing behind her back.

Brandon’s constant attention, his carefully crafted façade of devotion, was like a knife twisting in her gut. She could not bear it any longer, she wondered what Brandon would do if Lyse disappeared suddenly. Would he have no other choice than to get back with her?

Brooke realized that there was only one way to find out, Lyse had to go for good.

The thought had been festering in her mind after Lyse refused to help her with her work, a dark seed taking root and blossoming into a twisted plan. Lyse’s amnesia had presented an unexpected opportunity for her, and since Lyse was not living up to her expectations there was no point suffering her presence.

Having come to a decision about what she needed to do, Brooke picked up her phone and made a call. Lottie would be very upset when she found out, but she would get over it eventually.

Later that day, Brooke paced nervously, her earlier panic subsiding, replaced by a chilling resolve. Lottie sat calmly on the sofa, a glass of amber liquid swirling in her hand, her expression serene, almost chillingly so.

"She is becoming a big problem," Brooke said, her voice tight. "I can’t stand her walking around like everything is normal, I just wish she would disappear forever."

"What purpose would that serve?" Lottie asked as she eyed Brooke’s pacing.

"I would have a chance with Brandon for one," Brooke snapped, "and I will no longer be forced to deal with her stupid face, if anything she has become even more annoying than before."

"I know," Lottie replied, her voice smooth. "And that is why I have taken steps to rectify the situation."

Brooke stopped pacing and turned to her mother, her brow furrowed. "What steps, what do you mean?"

"Lyse has been insistent on seeing a doctor," Lottie explained, taking a sip of her drink. "I can’t very well stop her without arousing suspicion, can I?"

"So what did you do?" Brooke asked, her voice laced with suspicion and interest.

Lottie’s lips curved into a subtle, almost sinister smile. "I arranged for her to see a specialist," she said, her voice low and conspiratorial. "A... discreet specialist of my own choosing."

Brooke’s eyes widened. She understood what Lottie was implying. "No you did not..." she began, her voice barely a whisper. "Where did you find someone like that?"

Lottie raised a hand, silencing her. "Let’s just say that Lyse’s memory problems will soon be... permanently resolved," she said, her voice laced with a cold finality. "This doctor... he has access to certain... medications. Medications that can ensure a complete and lasting memory loss."

A chill ran down Brooke’s spine. Even she, in her desire to eliminate Lyse from her life, had not considered such a drastic measure. But now that Lottie had presented the solution, a dark sense of relief washed over her. It was brutal, it was cruel, but it was effective.

Lyse would have no memory at all, she would be easier to manipulate as she would accept anything that she was told. Brooke briefly thought that death would be easier than all of this.

"Are you sure about this, Lottie?" Brooke asked, her voice hesitant. "Can this specialist actually do it? What if he fails?"

Lottie’s smile widened, her eyes gleaming with a chilling determination. "Perfectly sure," she said. "Lyse is a liability. She is a threat to everything we’ve worked for. She needs to be... neutralized and this is the perfect way."

"It’s the only way," Brooke murmured, her voice barely audible. "Why didn’t I think about that?"

"That is why I thought of it." Lottie said proudly.

"It would be perfect, no one would be able to trace anything to us." Brooke whispered absentmindedly.

Lottie nodded, her expression satisfied. "Precisely," she said. "Once Lyse’s memory is completely gone, she will be no threat to you or I. She will be... a blank slate, completely at our mercy. We can tell her whatever we want, she won’t remember anything different."

A sinister plan began to form in Brooke’s mind. With Lyse’s memory completely erased, she could finally step into her shoes, take her place in everything, in the fashion world, and most importantly, in Brandon’s life. She could become the Lyse he thought he loved, the Lyse he desired.

"This is perfect," Brooke said, a chilling smile spreading across her face. "Once she is gone... I can finally have everything I want."

Lottie looked at her daughter, a knowing glint in her eyes. She understood Brooke’s ambition, her ruthless desire for success. She had instilled that ambition in her, nurtured it, encouraged it. And now, she was helping her daughter achieve her goals, even if it meant sacrificing another person’s life, even if it meant erasing another human being from existence.

"Indeed," Lottie said, raising her glass in a silent toast. "Everything will be as it should be."

Brooke remembered the call that she had made earlier, she would need the abort that mission as soon as possible. Lottie’s plan was actually less messy and better than her own plan.

She left the living room and went to her own room where she tried to call the number but the phone was off.
