I Married My Ex's Billionaire Father -
Chapter 111: Memories From That Summer
Chapter 111: Memories From That Summer
The ideal scenario would have been for Lyse to be so angry that she would come out and tell everyone about how their marriage was just for show. Instead, she was about to turn Levi to a grieving widower.
With Lyse in a coma, Levi would no doubt have everyone’s sympathy. The public would rally behind him, and since the will did not specify that Levi’s wife needed to be conscious or alive, his hold on the company would become even stronger.
He could not let that happen, not after all of the effort he had put in. He needed to take action, and fast. He could not afford to lose when he was so close to reaching his goals.
"Boss, I have gotten the information you requested on Tom Huddleston." Damien said as he opened the door, holding an envelope.
When he found Brett pacing, he stepped closer into the room. "Is something the problem boss?" He asked.
"Leave!" Brett roared.
Damien quickly dropped the envelope he held on the side table and left.
He thought back to his conversation with Sutton and a sinister smile crept across his face. He had an idea, a risky one, but one that could pay off big time. It was a gamble, but it was a gamble he was willing to take.
He picked up his overcoat and walked out of the apartment, his step lighter. Life no longer felt as bleak as it had been just a few minutes ago.

"Brett?" Chris managed to utter, his voice laced with surprise and confusion.
Brett looked up at him, a nonchalant smirk playing on his lips. "Long time no see, Chris," he said, his tone dripping with sarcasm. "I hope you don’t mind me making myself at home."
Chris’s mind raced, trying to comprehend the situation. What was Brett doing here? How had he gotten in? And why was he so comfortable in his home?
His annoyance turned to shock at the audacity of Brett sitting in his living room, petting his dog, it was very infuriating.
"What do you want, Brett?" Chris demanded, his voice hard. "And how did you get into my house?"
Brett sighed and tsked. "Is this how you treat guests? Even your dog welcomed me better than this."
Chris scoffed. "You snuck in my house without my permission, and my dog unfortunately has no sense of dangerous people."
He clenched his fist at Brett’s comfortable pose on the couch, he eyed his stupid dog which was enjoying being stroked by the enemy. He would have to have a talk with her about stranger danger.
"Again I ask, what do you want here?" Chris repeated through clenched teeth.
"Fine! I am here to offer you a deal." Brett said.
"A deal? With me?" Chris asked with a chuckle then his face stiffened. "I don’t care whatever it is that you have to offer, I will never betray Levi."
Brett leaned forward, his eyes glinting with a sinister light. "Are you sure Chris? I have found that everyone has their price, it’s just a matter of finding out what it is."
When Chris folded his arms, his face showing his disinterest, Brett smiled. "I have some information that I suspect you would kill for."
Chris raised an eyebrow, skeptical. "What kind of information?"
Brett leaned in closer, his voice low. "I know that one sweltering summer evening some twenty eight years ago, you got together with a most delectable young woman."
Chris stiffened at Brett’s words. "I have no idea what you are talking about."
"I think you do." Brett said in a singsong voice. "Don’t play dumb, Chris. I know the truth. You and Sutton had a fling, and Brandon is the result."
Chris was speechless. He could not believe what he was hearing. How could Brett know? He himself had never been sure, he had buried it deep in his subconscious. Refusing to accept the possibility.
"I want you to help me," Brett continued. "In return, I will keep your secret. I will make sure that Levi never knows that his best friend allowed him shoulder the responsibility of his bastard."
Chris was furious. He could not believe that Brett would stoop so low. "You are disgusting, Brett. I will never work with you."
Brett shrugged. "Suit yourself Chris. But remember, I know the truth. And I’m sure that you know that I am not afraid to use it."
With that, Brett stood up and carefully dropped the French bulldog on the ground before patting it lovingly.
"Good girl." He said then he walked towards the door. As he reached the threshold, he turned back to Chris, a menacing smile on his face. "Think about it, Chris. Your secret could be worth a lot more than you think."
When he was gone, he left the door open and Chris slammed the door shut angrily. Then he sat in his chair feeling desolate. His dog ran to him and sat at his foot looking up at him expectantly.
"Maybe if you had been a little more guard dog and a little less pet dog, I would not be forced to deal with that despicable human." Chris said, his voice a little stern but he stroked the dog regardless, his actions absent minded.
Memories from that summer, all those years ago came flooding back to him. He had been an impressionable young teenager who was excited to spend the summer at the Van Doren’s home abroad.
It had been his first time traveling that far and without any adults. It had just been him and Levi and they had been having a good time when they met the most beautiful girl he had ever seen.
He had been besotted and never thought that he had a chance, she was way out of his league and obviously had her eyes on Levi. So that day when she had come into his room, it had felt too good to be true. It had been better than even his wildest dreams.
And now, it was back to bite him.
