Chapter 106: The Murderer’s Daughter
Felicity was stunned. Maeve? Ken was calling that name in his delirious state? That was the name of his ex-lover, the woman who had broken his heart all those years before. Why was he calling her name now? Her eyes narrowed in irritation but she controlled herself.
"It’s me, Felicity, your baby," she said gently, trying to bring him back to reality.
But he seemed oblivious to her presence. He continued to mutter Maeve’s name, his voice growing weaker with each word.
Felicity’s anger began to soar. She was an A list actress who could be with anyone. Yet, here she was being replaced by a ghost from his past. She felt a surge of resentment, an envy that she only ever experienced when it came to this particular woman.
Just then, Dr Caleb who was on the other side of the bed, checking Ken’s vitals spoke. "He is stable for now," he said. "But he is still quite weak. He may need some time to recover."
Felicity frowned, her eyes fixed on Ken. She wanted to lash out, to scream at him, to make him understand the pain he was causing her. "Why is he calling another woman’s name when I am right here beside him?" She screeched. "Did you do something to him?"
Dr Caleb winced at the high pitch of her voice then he frowned and spoke sternly. "I am sorry ma’am, but I have to remind you that this is a hospital. You can’t just scream as you like as patients need their rest undisturbed."
"What do you expect me to do when my fiancé does not recognize me!" She said, her voice even louder.
"Ma’am, I am going to have to ask you to leave." Dr Caleb said firmly. "Or I am going to be forced to ask security to take you out."
Felicity realized that she was going to be kicked out of Ken’s room so she closed her eyes and took a deep calming breath then opened her eyes.
I apologize for my behavior, I am just feeling overwhelmed." She said softly.
Dr Caleb sighed and nodded in understanding. It was not easy to see one’s loved one sick and not being themselves.
"Can I spend some time with him alone?" she asked.
The doctor hesitated, then nodded. "Sure, but keep it brief. He needs rest and please, keep it down.."
After Dr Caleb and the nurse left, Felicity stepped closer to Ken’s bed. "Ken, it’s me, Felicity," she said, her voice soft. "Can you hear me?"
He opened his eyes again, his gaze focused on her. But there was no recognition in his eyes.
"Maeve," he whispered again.
Felicity clenched her fists. She wanted to scream, to cry. But she did not want to give that nasty doctor an excuse to force her out of the room. No matter what happened, she was determined to be the one beside Ken. She would not give an usurper the chance to kick her out.

The sterile hospital corridor stretched out before Lyse, its fluorescent lights casting an unflattering glow on her face, making her look pale. She was about to leave, the awkwardness of her meeting with that woman unsettled her.
There was no excuse for the woman’s behavior towards her, she had only tried to help and did not deserve to be insulted in that manner. She felt a little sorry for the unconscious man who would have to deal with that nasty woman when he woke up eventually.
She reminded herself that it was none of her business what happened to him, she had done her best for him a bad whatever happened next did not concern her.
"Lyse," Lottie’s voice, sharp and demanding, cut through the silence. Lyse turned, her surprise at seeing her mother all over her face.
"Mother," Lyse replied, her tone carefully neutral. She wondered what had brought Lottie here to the hospital. She had been curious when she saw Brooke earlier, but the tension between them had prevented her from asking.
"Did you come to see your father?" Lottie’s question was direct, her gaze piercing and hopeful.
Lyse’s heart sank at the news. "No, Mother. I did not know that father was ill."
"Don’t lie to me, Lyse," Lottie’s voice rose. "You must know why I’m here. Your father needs you. He is in trouble and you have refused to offer any help."
""I don’t think that it would be a good idea for me to be around father in the midst of his case, Levi forbids it." Lyse explained carefully.
Lottie’s expression hardened. "He was only trying to provide for us, Lyse. He might have made a few mistakes, yes, but he did it all for us."
"For us?" Lyse scoffed. "You and Father neglected me, ignored me. You left me to wither away while you pursued your own selfish ambitions and catered to Brooke. And how can you say he made a few mistakes when those mistakes have claimed the lives of some people?"
Lyse stared at her mother in disbelief. The fact that she was still trying to play the victim at that point disgusted her, she wanted to shake her and scream into her ears that people actually died.
Lottie’s face flushed with anger. "Don’t you dare blame us for your own choices, Lyse. You could have had a different life, but you chose this path."
Lyse stared at her mother, unable to believe the level of gaslighting. The fact that she could blame Lyse for everything that she had gone through in their hands.
Unable to bear to listen to her mother’s justifications any longer, she turned and walked away. Leaving Lottie standing there, her words hanging in the air.
Tears of anger filled her eyes as she walked, as all the heartache was unearthed by her mother’s callous words. As she reached the hospital’s exit, she was startled when she heard someone scream.
"Look there, it is the murderer’s daughter, get her!"
