Chapter 175: [Bonus Chapter] Pregnancy
After Yuri and Tuss finished surveying the construction site with the crew, they paid the deposit and returned home, intending to drink their Nutrient Fluids. As they arrived, their doorbell rang.
Tuss went to answer the door, finding a soldier standing outside.
"Hello, Sir. My name is Brian. The chef sent me to deliver dinner to you and Commander Yuri," Brian said, handing over a thermal box to Tuss.
Tuss took it and replied, "Thanks a lot. Could you please pass my thanks to the head chef?"
"Of course. Everyone also wants to thank you and Commander Yuri for the seafood you sent," Brian shouted as if he was worried Yuri in the house wouldn’t hear him.
Tuss narrowed his eyes and said, "We’ve received your gratitude. You’re welcome."
Brian suddenly felt a chill run down his back, wondering if the temperature had dropped.
"Enjoy your meal. I’ll come to collect the thermal box tomorrow," Brian said, quickly turning to leave.
As he moved further away, the chill dissipated.
"Wow, those high-ranking alphas sure are stingy, dominant, and possessive," Brian thought to himself.
"Food?" Yuri asked, looking at the thermal box in Tuss’s hands.
"Yes. Go wash your hands, and I’ll set the table," Tuss said.
By the time Yuri came back from washing her hands, the table was filled with an array of seafood - different types of fish, shrimps, clams, some steamed, some fried, others stewed, and even raw, marinated ones.
"The chefs really went all out," Yuri exclaimed.
Tuss handed Yuri a pair of chopsticks, teasing her, "Thanks to you, we have a feast tonight."
Yuri rolled her eyes at him, handing over thirty-eight Phoenix Shell pearls, "Here, you handle these."
Tuss took them and was stunned. They were beautiful even on camera, but holding them in person, their beauty was a hundred times more striking. Am I really going to sell such beautiful pearls? Am I that strapped for cash?
Tuss carefully placed the Phoenix Shell pearls into a dimensional button, already thinking about what kind of jewelry he could make for her. A necklace is a must. Maybe a bracelet, brooch, earrings, hairpins, and clips. But sell them? That’s out of the question.
After finishing the seafood feast, Yuri was unsurprisingly full.
Tuss frowned and stood up, "I’m going to buy some digestive medicine."
Yuri wanted to stop him, but her stomach indeed felt uncomfortable, so she didn’t. However, the moment Tuss left, she felt nauseous. She rushed to the bathroom, throwing up everything she had just eaten.
After emptying her stomach, Yuri leaned against the wall and slumped into a chair, murmuring, "Did the food have a problem?"
That isn’t likely; Tuss is fine. Or has my diet of Nutrient Fluids made my stomach delicate, unable to handle real food? That must be it.
After a while, when Yuri felt better, she went upstairs to take a bath.
Her body reeked of fish and an unpleasant sour smell.
When Tuss came back, Yuri had already finished her bath and was in bed, sipping a Nutrient Fluid bottle. He was stunned and asked, "Do you still need the digestive medicine?"
"Keep it for now, it might come in handy later," Yuri said nonchalantly.
"Tell me what’s happening," Tuss approached her, studying her flushed face, which was rosy from the hot bath, a sight that made him want to nuzzle his face into her cheeks.
"The moment you left, I threw up everything I had eaten," Yuri explained pitifully, "Could it be because I’ve been consuming Nutrient Fluids for so long that my stomach has become fragile?"
Hearing the word "vomited", the first thing that came to Tuss’s mind was pregnancy. But it had only been a little over ten days since their marking ceremony, and symptoms of pregnancy wouldn’t appear so soon. It must be a stomach problem, he worriedly asked, "How do you feel now? Is your stomach uncomfortable?"
Yuri shook her head.
After drinking the Nutrient Drink, Yuri quickly fell asleep.
However, Tuss was not the least bit sleepy. From the moment the word "pregnancy" entered his mind, his thoughts had been in disarray.
He got up from the bed, carefully stepped down, and went to the guest room downstairs to send a communication request to Officer Lyao.
Officer Lyao, who was still at work, quickly answered the call, "What’s up?"
Tuss said with a stern face, "About the time when I was drugged."
Officer Lyao frowned, "Didn’t we already conclude that matter?"
Tuss gritted his teeth, "The day after it happened, you called me away before I could get a contraceptive. When I returned from your place and had to rush off from Planet Alpha, I forgot all about it. If Yuri accidentally becomes pregnant and we decide to abort it, it will be hard on her—"
"Why would you abort it?" Officer Lyao interrupted Tuss, looking at him sternly, "Don’t you want a child with Yuri?"
"Of course I do, but I was drugged that day, I’m worried that the health of the child may be affected," Tuss expressed his concerns. The drug was so potent; he couldn’t help but worry.
"It’s okay. It won’t have an effect," Officer Lyao sighed. These young alphas... Thinking about this now, isn’t it too late?
Tuss was skeptical, "Have you asked a doctor?"
Officer Lyao nodded, "Yes, I have. It’s a drug similar to beta substances, mainly for inducing effects on the nerves; it doesn’t significantly affect the blood. I can’t explain it in detail, but the intention of the person who drugged you was to be marked by you and get pregnant. That way, she could escape punishment, needing your company during pregnancy."
Hearing this, Tuss didn’t know whether to be angry or relieved. His expression changed several times, but one question remained, did Yuri know that a beta thoroughly marked has a ninety percent chance of becoming pregnant?
That night, Tuss stayed awake until dawn. After ending the communication with Officer Lyao, he read a lot about pregnancy.
The next morning, Tuss asked for a day off from Xiva.
"The hospital?" Yuri was surprised. I have only thrown up once and felt fine afterwards, why go to the hospital?
Tuss looked at Yuri pensively, and seriously asked, "Have you finished the biology lessons I asked you to review?"
"I finished them a while ago. Why, are you going to test me?" Yuri scoffed.
"Do you know the odds of a beta becoming pregnant after being thoroughly marked?" Tuss asked her.
"Ninety percent," Yuri blurted out, then froze.
Half an hour later, they stood in front of the hospital.
"It’s too soon, shouldn’t they not be able to detect anything yet?" Yuri hesitated, unable to move forward.
Seeing her like this, Tuss felt a deep pain in his heart. He reached out, pulled her into his arms, and said, "I’m sorry."
She was just twenty years old, an age when she should be in school, the prime of her youth. Not only did he drag her to this remote frontier, but now, at such a young age, she might be—
"If you don’t want to, we won’t have it," Tuss comforted, rubbing Yuri’s back. With current technology, the physical damage of an abortion could be minimized. What he was worried about was the emotional scars it might leave.
Yuri pulled away from Tuss’s embrace, her gaze sharply fixed on him, "Don’t you want a child?"
"No, that’s not it. Of course, I want a child, but I care more about what you want," Tuss hurriedly denied.
Yuri let go of him, briskly walking towards the hospital, "Let’s go. Let’s get the test done."
Two lifetimes, her first time getting pregnant, she just found it a bit hard to believe. If the child is indeed on the way, then I’ll raise it. I’ve sworn to raise an entire army; I can surely handle one child, can’t I?
The test only took a few minutes, but the results took half an hour. Yuri had never felt time pass so slowly.
She and Tuss sat in the chairs, neither speaking. Tuss’s gaze was fixed on her, a look of worry in his eyes.
Twenty minutes in, Yuri couldn’t sit still anymore. She stood up, pacing back and forth in the corridor.
At the twenty-six-minute mark, there was a beep from the opticomputer. It was the sound indicating a medical report was ready. Yuri and Tuss quickly clicked to view the report, and the next second, they both froze.
Just then, a nurse walked over, smiling at them, "Congratulations."
