Chapter 534: Chapter 517: The Onlookers of the Divine Race
In the month of traveling, Mu Ying had come to roughly understand the Creekwood Small World.
There was only one continent in the Creekwood Small World, rich in natural resources, and there were traces of human civilization; they concentrated in the plains and hills of the southern part of the continent.
Few humans ventured into other areas.
In the southern part of the continent, where humans lived, there were hundreds of city-states, each governing independently with severe class division, the slaver nobles holding most of the resources, civilians struggling to survive, and slaves completely devoid of human rights.
The city-states often waged wars against each other, vying for slaves, population, and resources, but these were all wars with cold weapons, and the population of each city-state was limited, basically just depleting the population, causing little damage to the environment.
When Mu Ying heard that two city-states were about to go to war, and Maeve’s mother took her to a small lake near the battlefield to join the Divine Race in spectating, Mu Ying had mixed feelings.
Only recently had she learned that in the World of Gods, apart from the Divine Race, other races couldn’t feel the Law, nor could they borrow the power of the Law.
Humans were the most special beings therein; they looked very much like the Divine Race and were extremely intelligent with a strong creative force. Even with their frail bodies, they tended to be dominant on most worlds.
The situation was somewhat like that of the Deep Blue Star before Doomsday, where humans used their wisdom to create various tools to arm themselves, conquering nature and other races.
But the Divine Race was transcendent of the worlds, and when they walked among them, it was as if they were invisible to mankind, who couldn’t detect their divinity, yet the power of the gods could still harm humans.
However, all were hard-working gods, and unless someone interfered with the work of the Divine Race, no god would act, because such interference that wasn’t work-related would result in a pay cut.
To the Divine Race, salary was life, so they were all very careful.
But not being allowed to interfere didn’t mean they couldn’t watch; spectating humans had become an interesting activity in the Divine Race’s long and tedious life.
Whenever some god noticed that humans were up to something big, it was sure to be spread far and wide, calling friends to come and enjoy the spectacle.
Wasn’t the reason Maeve’s mother could compress one hundred years of work into just twenty because she had spent most of her previous work time watching the drama unfold?
"Why can’t these humans figure it out, to stop fighting each other? Isn’t it good to just live peacefully? They can only live for a few decades and still don’t cherish it."
"Yeah, I heard it’s about grabbing territory, grabbing people. I didn’t see them capture many, but I did see a lot of them die!"
"The humans from the last Small World I was in were more unified. They lived far apart from each other, so there was less conflict."
...
Mu Ying listened to the excited discussions of the surrounding Divine Race observers and then looked down at the two small city-states fiercely at war.
If these humans knew that every time they went to war, a group of gods came to watch cheerfully with all sorts of discussions, who knows what expressions they would have.
Mu Ying couldn’t help but think, in reality, when humans are active, might there also be unseen lives spectating them?
The world is truly marvelous!
This month’s "vacation" time had Mu Ying accompanying Maeve’s mother as they visited lakes big and small throughout Creekwood Small World, spending most of their time near the human city-states.
"Our affinity with the Water Law as gods is really convenient, humans always like to live by the water, which makes it easy for us to enjoy the hustle and bustle," she said.
"When I was the Well Water Goddess, I was even closer to them. Don’t look down on them for being weak, they have some ingenious ideas that even we of the Divine Race don’t have. Their lives are full of hardships, toiling and hunger, but sometimes I feel they live a more vibrant and varied life than we do."
...
Maeve’s mother would talk nonstop about her experiences observing human life, unreservedly sharing with her the experiences of slacking off at work to watch the fun and find enjoyment.
Mu Ying learned about the situation of humans in the various worlds of the World of Gods from her.
Unfortunately, apart from the Divine Race, there were no other races that could wield extraordinary powers, nor were there any special plants different from those in the real world.
This meant that it might be difficult for her to find anything of material value in these Small Worlds, which was bad news. It meant that for the time being, she could only tell others that her Third Trial World was a Source Power type world, even though she had yet to find a way to obtain Source Power from this world.
A month flew by quickly, and Mu Ying, pulling a reluctant Maeve’s mother, returned to their residence.
Maeve’s mother no longer needed to sleep to absorb Divine Power Crystals, so Mu Ying suggested that she work for a while and take breaks like this one, without having to slave away day and night as before.
After that, she began her fourth slumber.
After thirty-six years, Mu Ying woke up again and immediately felt the difference—her head was completely bald, not a single hair left.
"Mom, can I go take the Talent test now?" she asked, touching her head.
"In theory, yes. But you’re only ninety years old now; usually, the test is taken at the age of one hundred. You haven’t had a proper chance to enjoy yourself for years. Don’t you want to have some fun for a few years before going?" Maeve, holding her recently awakened daughter, spoke with a tone of melancholy.
She hadn’t experienced the joy of raising her daughter, because her darling had been so diligent. At ninety years and one month old plus four days, she had slept for ninety years.
While other gods were playing with their babies, her baby was sleeping. While other gods were cleaning up their babies’ messes, her baby was still sleeping.
"Is there a rule that says you have to be a hundred years old to take the test?" Mu Ying inquired.
Maeve couldn’t lie and could only respond, "No, you can take it once you’ve mostly digested your Divine Power."
"Then let’s go earlier. I really want to know what Law I’m attuned to and receive the Inheritance Seed as soon as possible. Then, when mom goes to patrol the lakes, I can study on the side. You said that Creekwood Small World is very suitable for my first Divine Position, right? If I learn more in advance by following mom, I can also pass the Divine Position exam earlier and start earning Divine Power Crystals!" Mu Ying was ambitious.
"Baby Ying, you’re sure to go farther in your Divine Position than mom," Maeve said, caressing her little treasure’s bald head. Her daughter seemed to have a keen interest in working, a passion many gods lacked. As a qualified mother, she should support her baby’s ideas. "Mom will apply to the Law for a short break and take you to Central City for the test!"
Mu Ying nodded vigorously: "I want to earn Divine Power Crystals to support mom!"
"Alright!" Maeve, with eyes full of tenderness, kissed her little treasure.
