Chapter 282: Chapter 278 Curly-haired Little Red
Mu Ying’s first act upon her return was to check the blood-red thorn seed she had just transformed.
It looked exactly the same as in the Emerald World, and she used her magic power to cover the seed.
The seed slowly began to float.
"Swoosh! Swoosh!"
The round and plump seed suddenly bristled, with many fine needles like spikes emerging from it, expanding from a small one into a large tuft, rubbing and sucking the magic power she bestowed upon it.
It grew a bit larger after a while, then began to sprout into a blood-red thorny branch with emerald-hued patterns.
It kept growing, and although the branch didn’t grow much longer, the roots pleasingly extended out, twining around her fingers and back of the hand...
From the moment it began to sprout, Mu Ying felt the connection between herself and it, knowing it didn’t need to take root in the soil like other plants.
As a symbiotic plant, it could root itself anywhere on her body, growing alongside her.
Only in this way could it serve to save her life by severing a part of itself in critical moments.
Because after the contract was made, the blood-red life became linked to her, essentially becoming a part of her body, even allowing her to gain some of the blood-red thorn’s characteristics and abilities.
This was akin to those beast taming novels where the contractor shares skills with the contracted beast.
Although Little Red was still weak now, its abilities weren’t very strong yet.
But as long as Mu Ying nourished it regularly with curse magic and blessing magic, it would become increasingly powerful, and even the enhancement of her own abilities would benefit Little Red.
In the future, once it reached a certain level, she could even use the regenerative ability of the thorns to sever and regrow branches for life-saving revivals.
Even now, Little Red had many uses.
Right, Little Red was the name Mu Ying gave to the blood-red thorn.
When Little Red’s roots spread to her forearm, Mu Ying said, "This spot will do!"
Little Red gave her a nod at the tip of its newly sprouted head, and the entire branch transformed into a blend of red and green light, merging into her arm.
And on her forearm, a new red thorn tattoo appeared.
If she scratched it, it would twist out and hug her finger, scurrying about as if chuckling, its spikes so soft they curled at the edges, resembling a red, sparsely-haired catepillar.
[You have formed a symbiotic relationship with the Blood-red Thorn, Constitution attribute +3, acquired the special skill Master of Thorns]
A new prompt appeared.
Gaining three points to her Constitution attribute was unexpected.
That was a lot!
As a Druid whose Constitution barely met the average, sitting at just 10 points and whose Life Value was only slightly more than that of your average Mage and Priest, her physical strength had always been her weak point; if she didn’t undergo a Wild Transformation, she could only stick to long-range spell casting or close-quarter agility attacks.
These three points in Constitution instantly pulled her Life Value up to 590 points.
She wasn’t far off from those melee professionals now.
"Little Red, you’re amazing!" Mu Ying couldn’t help but poke at the thorny tattoo on her arm again. Even though the curly-haired Little Red felt hard to the touch, not as pillowy soft as Gungun, it was still adorable!
Beyond that, the Skill she acquired was the ability to utilize all the abilities deployed by Little Red as a collective.
[Master of Thorns: As the master of the Blood-red Thorns, you can command it to transform into weapons, or even Magic Artifacts to aid you in battle. Injuries can also swiftly recover with the regenerative abilities of the Blood-red Thorns. Don’t forget to feed it after battle, for malnourished Blood-red Thorns won’t even manage to bristle their spikes.]
"Little Red, armor up!" Mu Ying conveyed the command to Little Red, with whom she shared an understanding heart.
Starting from her arm, a suit of red Thorny Battle Armor rapidly spread across her entire body.
This was a living Combat Armor that adjusted its form according to her movements, adapting to her body.
The surface that clung to her body was warm and smooth, with thorns only on the outside, curled into blossoms of red roses that looked like fine reliefs on the armor. Sharp spikes adorned only the shoulders, the backs of the hands, and the outer sides of the arms, while the head armor resembled a thorny crown.
It looked gorgeous, and in action, its effects were astonishing.
The Blood-red Thorns were as hard as steel, boasting incredible defensive power. Even if damaged, they could recover with their powerful regenerative capabilities, making them a far stronger defense than the Tree Skin Skill she used, and perhaps even surpassing the Stone Skin Technique of the 4th ring spells.
Such an armor with impressive defensive strength was much lighter than metal armor, feeling less burdensome than even regular leather armor when worn.
Should an enemy come too close, all the rose reliefs on the Combat Armor would spring open in an instant, transforming into sharp spikes. Upon contact with flesh, they could hook into the enemy’s body and rip out chunks of flesh, making it a truly bloody Combat Armor.
Just with the ability to transform into Combat Armor, Mu Ying felt she had struck it rich.
Beyond that, it could extend into a weapon of choice or a Magic Artifact, with the shape at her whim.
It could become a thorny long sword, a Thorny dagger, or even a hefty thorny wolf-toothed club. With this, she hardly had to worry about weapon issues anymore.
Though not equipment, it was no less impressive than the Jia Wood Long Sword and Jia Wood Short Sword Grandpa Shom had crafted for her, and it had the potential to grow.
Magic Artifacts generally referred to equipment that assists in Spell Casting, including Magic Wands and such, typically having effects of guiding Mana and amplifying Spells.
Little Red had that effect, too, serving not only as a Druid’s Magic Artifact to help channel natural power but also as her Magic Wand to guide Magic Power.
It was as if it were a part of her own body, all her powers closely intertwined with it, even flowing through it.
Therefore, the thorny magic wand that Little Red transformed into was even more suited to her hand than the one she’d made herself, feeling like an extension of her own arm. Harnessing Magic Power through it was incredibly smooth, and it even magnified the effects of her Spells somewhat.
The impact on magic effects was also moderately amplified.
Even though this amplification was limited and the defense was not invincible, roughly equating to the level of purple equipment, but it couldn’t be ignored that it was alive! Little Red was in perfect sync with her intentions, unconditionally obeying her commands. However, its combat support was not rigid but could react appropriately at the most suitable moments, almost as if it had intelligence, certainly yielding an effect greater than the sum of its parts.
Mu Ying even believed she could go out and engage with warriors in close combat. Wearing this gear, any warrior without gauntlets would probably hesitate to punch her, because upon doing so, they might inflict some impact on her, but their own hand would likely not fare well, with suddenly protruding spikes causing severe pain.
Who could have guessed that the decorative floral patterns on the armor were actually curled thorns? And they could even suddenly bristle with spikes.
"Hehe!"
Thinking of that satisfying imagery, Mu Ying couldn’t help but laugh out loud.
Big win!
