Chapter 270: Chapter 266: The Door of the Tomb (Push for More Updates)
It might be because the core of the Underground City was shattered. That’s why this Floating Disc isn’t working anymore.
But as long as the stairwell is still there, it seems we can go either up or down.
Should I go up first or down first?
Mu Ying decided to first test how deep it was.
She took out two Lamp Vine Seeds and used Plant Magic to rapidly grow them, sending one climbing up the well and the other down.
The light from the Lamp Vine Flowers illuminated the entire well.
A few minutes later, they reached the top.
It looked like it was about ten meters either up or down.
She looked up and down and chose to go down first, based on her gut feeling.
She mounted her flying broom and descended slowly.
At the bottom, a similar long corridor lay before her eyes.
It appeared much more luxurious, probably with different Noble Tombs on each side. From her spot, she could see dozens of doors, much more numerous and densely packed than in the civilian tomb corridors.
And each was different: there were doors with golden carvings, heavy bronze doors, and even wooden doors surrounded by vines.
Each seemed to have its own style.
The same large stone rollers paved the way, and the corridor was still free of traps.
Mu Ying felt as if she were visiting an exhibition of tomb door art. There were about five hundred doors, far more than on the civilian side, but the number of people buried here was less than in a single civilian tomb.
Unlike the collective communal tombs above, here there were individual tombs, couple tombs, and even family tombs.
Each door had a stone stele with the tomb owner’s name, dates of birth and death, and epitaph.
Mu Ying looked at each one. The first tomb door she approached in the stairwell was a bronze door, engraved with a demonic face.
"Guland Underground City Noble Tomb No.2
Mahir Puli (Dawn Era 1023-1045)"
"In another life, we shall meet again."
The epitaph, seemingly written by a loved one, revealed that he died in his twenties, which tugged at her heartstrings.
She continued to look further.
"Guland Underground City Noble Tomb No.3
Ketikaruti Braga (Dawn Era 82-1061)"
"The flowers on the door, for the souls that pass by, may you find peace."
This tomb door was the one she had noticed earlier among the solid stone and metal doors—a uniquely stylish wooden door. It wasn’t as tall as the others and looked more like a normal house door with a square window beside it, more reminiscent of a home’s entrance than a tomb.
The window and the door still bore vibrant flowers to this day, though she couldn’t tell how.
And this person had lived nearly a thousand years. He must be no ordinary figure.
She used Biological Recognition to probe the flowers.
"Resting Flower, blooms in places where souls rest, said to guide the departed to their places of rest."
It seemed quite magical. Mu Ying tried to pluck some seeds with Feedback Claw. Although she felt it was possible to pluck them, she inexplicably failed.
"Resting Flower, nourished by life force, blooms only upon souls, young one, it is not for you."
A new line of text appeared on the stele.
Mu Ying: "..."
Her heart nearly leapt out of her chest. Was the person inside really dead?
Glancing back at the stele, it had returned to its original state.
Mu Ying was curious about the principle behind this and used Feedback Hand again.
The same text appeared on the stone tablet.
"Gungun, you try," Mu Ying had Gungun reach out towards the Resting Flower.
Similarly, when the hand was still a distance from the flower, words appeared above it.
She sighed in relief, thankfully, it might just be a mechanism the tomb’s Master had set up to keep strangers from plucking the flowers.
"Blooms only on the soul, nourished by vitality," could it mean that living beings touching the flower might be drained of their vitality?
After all that, this flower could be used for tomb theft prevention!
Indeed, the world is full of wonders.
Continuing on.
"Guland Underground City Noble Tomb 4
Alinur Belloso (Dawn Era 799-1061)"
"Wait for me, let’s embark on this journey together!"
Mu Ying looked suspiciously at this line and then at the person’s death date; was it speaking to the occupant of Tomb 3?
This tomb’s door was quite shabby, almost like those of civilian tombs.
It felt as though it was hurriedly done to accompany the person before.
These tombstones and doors are really interesting; through them, Mu Ying seemed to glimpse the vivid past lives of these once-living individuals.
She found it fascinating and spent three whole days looking at over five hundred tomb doors.
She didn’t dare to open any tombs; unlike the previous civilian tombs which had nothing on their doors, these tombs felt too vibrant, making her feel like breaking in would be an offense.
Of course, if there were treasures, she would definitely go in no matter what.
But these tomb masters seemed quite extraordinary; from the doors alone, one could tell their wealth, each having lived at least a few hundred years.
The youngest must be the occupant of Tomb 2.
Every door had a Secret Magic Lock, personally encrypted and adjusted, much higher level than what Mu Ying could handle; she couldn’t open them.
However, during Spell Casting, she triggered many threatening messages on the tombstones.
Such as "tomb raiders will die," "first warning, subsequent offenses will be prosecuted," "no room left in this tomb, do not disturb," and so on.
Some even triggered warning messages just by getting closer to the tomb door.
Although she didn’t know if the threats were real, what if they were?
A young girl under twenty challenging these centuries-old folks, isn’t that overconfidence?
Of course, she couldn’t be intimidated; taking out her thickest stone fortress to protect herself, she picked the tomb with the sternest warnings and probed it again.
Then, an air blade, seemingly out of nowhere, cleaved half of her prideful stone fortress; fortunately, Mu Ying was squatting, and wasn’t injured.
After that, she didn’t dare to try again; she really was still just a youngster.
However, these tombs aren’t going anywhere; there will come a day when she must avenge this slight.
On reflection, the Underground City Lord probably wouldn’t place the Underground Core in someone else’s tomb, especially when these tomb owners are so audacious and value their privacy so highly.
Mu Ying and Gungun then checked the corridor’s floor and ceiling thoroughly.
The Wall Peeping Mirrors on the walls had also malfunctioned; in other places where the walls had lost their protective effects, the walls of these noble tombs still maintained their own magical protective effects, showing that they were indeed not to be messed with.
The floor and ceiling were fine.
Finally, she stood in front of Tomb 2.
Why is the first tomb numbered 2? Where is number 1?
Could there be a hidden Tomb 1?
And since the Underground City belongs to the Queen of Guland, named after her, did she prepare a tomb for herself? If so, could it be Tomb 1?
