Chapter 256: Chapter 253: The Door of the Tomb

After holding the Detoxification Mushroom in their mouths, their ghastly green complexions finally began to return to normal.

"My money, my money!" Old Mao was the first to wake up. His gaze fell on Mu Ying who was standing by, looking at him with interest, and he shuddered, "What are you doing here?" He then saw his gang lying all around and realized he was also sitting on the ground. He asked belatedly, "What happened to us?"

"You were poisoned by that skinny little Demon Ghost," Mu Ying said as she did away with the Wind Wall, "A Demon Ghost’s poison can’t be blocked by a handkerchief and is fatal. The mushroom slices in your mouths have a detoxifying effect. Now, there’s no need to worry, but..."

"I understand! I’ll give you eighty percent of the loot! Can we repay the mushroom slices with that?" Old Mao declared resolutely.

Mu Ying: "..."

"I’m not that much of a miser. I only want the Demon Ghost’s body for making poison. The rest is yours," Mu Ying said. "Also, did you dig this pit?"

When Old Mao heard she only wanted the Demon Ghost’s body—though the Demon Ghost was the most valuable here, it couldn’t compare to a pit full of ghouls—he quickly agreed. Then, after hearing Mu Ying ask about the pit, Old Mao proudly said, "Yes, we dug it. Pretty smart, huh?"

Mu Ying nodded, "Quite smart. I was wondering why there were no ghouls attacking the territory yesterday! However, you’ll have to refill this big pit afterwards."

With such a big pit blocking the way, not only could the ghouls and Demon Ghosts not get out, but they couldn’t get in either.

Old Mao looked at the large pit and nodded reluctantly, "Okay!"

When they dug it, they hadn’t considered that they would have to fill it back up. The pit had taken a long time to dig!

"Alright, now that you’ve recovered, let’s start the fight!" Mu Ying said, as the Demon Ghost could no longer hold itself back.

Old Mao and his team were clearly experienced in fighting ghouls in the pit. They even had specially extended spears prepared; the ghouls trapped in the pit were like defanged tigers, utterly helpless.

Only the Demon Ghost, with a tongue much longer than ordinary ghouls, caused them some trouble.

Mu Ying took down her enhanced Green Wood Longbow, planning to test the bow on this Demon Ghost.

The bow was drawn fully, an ice-blue Elemental Arrow gradually formed on the bowstring, aimed at the Demon Ghost’s tongue, and whooshed out at a shot.

The arrow didn’t penetrate the Demon Ghost’s tongue but exploded with intense cold as soon as it hit, turning the wildly thrashing tongue into a long ice pop.

Old Mao and his gang seized the opportunity. The spears in their hands stabbed vigorously, and with each thrust, it sounded as if coins were dropping; they didn’t even mind the ghouls’ foul smell anymore.

They reciprocated her action, stabbing the Demon Ghost thoroughly through and through.

Joking aside, if they didn’t help and let someone else finish off the Demon Ghost, what face would they have to claim the ghouls in the pit all to themselves?

Old Mao’s calculations were making loud clicks in his mind.

Mu Ying didn’t even get a chance to fire her second arrow.

Soon, all the ghouls were also stabbed to death.

Old Mao and his team climbed down the pit using a rope ladder to collect the ghouls’ tongues and clip their nails.

Seeing that they even brought a rope ladder, Mu Ying truly admired their preparedness.

She used the entanglement technique to control the vines on the cliff wall to toss the Demon Ghost’s body out and collected it.

Since the Ten Thousand Worlds Trial had already been announced worldwide, she could use some otherwise inexplicable things.

She assumed that at this point, nobody was bold enough to tamper with her possessions.

Old Mao and his gang certainly noticed the Demon Ghost’s body disappearing into thin air.

They had seen Space Equipment before. The owner of the copper coin pawnshop, 559, often collected items out of nowhere. When people asked about it, he didn’t hide it; Wuyaya also wore a Gemstone Ring that was Space Equipment.

But among the players, such an item had never appeared before.

Yet, Mu Ying was the top-ranked Druid and had long become a Trialist, stronger than some NPCs in the territory. It was normal for her to possess such treasures.

So they just looked on enviously and gave up.

Then Mu Ying grabbed the extending vines and swung into the cave.

The cave sloped downward, and after just a few steps, he could see the tomb hall he had encountered previously during the instance.

There were no ghouls inside anymore.

This time, Mu Ying saw everything more clearly.

This place shouldn’t have been constructed by Demon Ghosts or ghouls.

Although the walls near the entrance were naturally formed, feeling very smooth and covered with small holes, indentations, and various heights of protrusions, they were also quite damp with traces of water flow.

But collapsed stone bricks and rusted iron bars could still be seen along the stone wall.

The walls of the tomb on the other side, however, were relatively well-preserved, with neat bricks and iron bars embedded in them.

The entire tomb was littered with bones and debris of bricks and stones, obscuring the appearance of the floor’s stone tiles.

Mu Ying found many decayed pieces of wood among them.

Some still vaguely bore the traces of coffins. Kicking through the discarded wreckage, he even found two copper coins in the middle.

The designs on the copper coins were different from those he had seen before, but the size was similar. Moreover, despite being buried in such a damp place for a long time and still being as smooth as new with not a speck of rust, it’s noteworthy that the copper coffin in the center of the tomb had mottled rust patches. This was quite similar to the copper coins found on zombies.

It was uncertain whether these could circulate as the other copper coins did.

It seems that before the ghouls took over this place, there must have been many coffins, most of them wooden, with only one bronze coffin.

But the ghouls turned it into their lair.

It’s needless to say what the fate of a tomb turned into a ghoul’s lair would be; all the bodies likely became ghoul’s food.

The wooden coffins were gnawed away.

In the middle of the hall, the bronze coffin was also pried open, its lid lying on the ground nearby. The last time she entered the instance, a Demon Ghost was lingering here.

Just as she thought, the body inside the coffin had also vanished.

However, there were some funerary objects left inside, mostly so decayed that it was impossible to make out what they were.

Only a small pile of gold coins and a few gemstones remained intact.

The pattern on the gold coins was the same as on the previous copper coins, there appeared to be about a dozen or so. The gemstones were elemental gems, but the energy inside them was not very full.

Mu Ying gladly took them all.

Finally, she turned her gaze toward the stone gate at the far end of the tomb room.

The gate was arched, decorated with elaborate carvings and some indecipherable patterns which seemed to represent some type of script.

Above the gate, there was a stone statue carved with a menacing face.

Throughout the tomb room, there were scratch marks from the ghouls everywhere else, only this door remained intact; even the carvings on it were undamaged, clearly indicating something was amiss.

Mu Ying checked several times and confirmed that the door must have been protected by a spell.

That’s why the ghouls couldn’t break through it.

She wondered whether her Magic Dispel would work.
