Chapter 227: Chapter 224 Canteryla
"Miss, I’m so sorry, I just had to step out for a moment. What would you like to eat?"
Mu Ying was waiting for her meal when another woman came out from the kitchen, only this one was much thinner.
Hearing her question, Mu Ying said, "I’ve already ordered, flower cake and flower honey water, served by someone dressed just like you. She said she was going to the back to make the flower cake."
"Miss, you must be joking. There’s only me in this small shop, and we don’t have flower cake and flower honey water; those are old and out of fashion. Traveling merchants don’t like them and we stopped making them a long time ago. Now, the flowers of Flower Town are all used to make fragrances," the thin woman explained.
In broad daylight, could there be a supernatural event?
Mu Ying described the plump woman’s appearance, but the thin woman insisted there was no such person in the shop, nor was there a woman of that age and size in the entire town.
She even brought out the menu, which indeed did not list flower cake or flower honey water, only common items like steak, juice, beer, and the like.
Mu Ying even went to the back of the inn to look around but found no trace of the plump woman.
However, the location of the Queen Mother’s graveyard described by the shop owner was very similar to what the plump woman had said.
Suddenly losing her appetite, Mu Ying got up, returned to her carriage, and began to drive slowly outside of town.
The hillside outside the town, where wildflowers bloomed most brilliantly, was easy to find because, in the vast field of flowers, only that hillside was covered with flowers growing unrestrained.
She parked the carriage by the roadside and walked up the hill on foot, picking some wildflowers along the way and tying them into a bunch.
At the top of the hill was a gravestone surrounded by wildflowers, which didn’t look desolate or messy, but rather full of life.
The gravestone read, "From meeting among the mountain flowers, may you rest in peace among them."
There was no signature, just two unknown flowers nestled together in the bottom right corner, and nothing more.
Without finding anything special, Mu Ying placed the bunch of wildflowers she held in front of the gravestone. She then turned down the hill. When she returned to the carriage, she noticed a tray outside the carriage door.
On the tray rested a porcelain stack with three pieces of confectionery and a large-bellied bottle filled with amber liquid next to it. Last, there was an envelope held down by a wildflower plucked casually from the roadside.
Mu Ying opened the envelope.
"Your flower cake and flower honey water. PS: Have a smooth journey, and please take this flower to Cinderella for me. She will tell you what you want to know."
Mu Ying: "..."
The mystery was solved—the plump woman must undoubtedly be Cinderella’s fairy godmother!
All witches, why can’t they speak openly? Why the need for such secrecy?
And how did she know what I wanted to find out?
But it was clear that she was a senior, and Mu Ying was powerless to do anything about it, at least she had taken the money and had not skipped out on the bill. That was good enough.
Mu Ying carried the tray into the carriage and tasted the flower cake and flower honey water.
To be honest, the taste of the flower cake was truly mediocre, and the flower honey water was sweet yet sour. Five copper coins seemed a bit expensive; no wonder the inns in town stopped selling these.
Although it felt like she’d been inexplicably set up, at least she now possessed a token that enabled her to contact Cinderella herself, and Mu Ying was able to let it go.
The carriage continued on its journy, since she had the chance to ask Cinderella herself, there was no need to inquire elsewhere. She could head straight to the Royal Capital.
After another week of travel, Mu Ying’s carriage finally arrived at Canteryala.
The Rose Kingdom was famed for its perennial spring climate and its cultivation of flowers, especially the roses of Canteryala, where one could find every variety of the rose in this world. The rose walls were too numerous to count.
The coming and going of carriages was frequent, and Mu Ying’s carriage blended in without drawing any attention. There were others like hers without coachmen.
Mu Ying also spotted some extravagantly dressed women. Some wore flowing gowns fit for a ball, others were clad in black, with hooded cloaks hiding half of their faces, revealing only a sharp chin. There were even some performing magic tricks in the street.
However, they, without exception, didn’t seem very young, and it was clear they weren’t locals, as the locals stood by watching them, dressed quite normally themselves.
These couldn’t all be applicants for the role of Fairy Godmother, could they?
They didn’t seem like witches either. Not to mention the one performing magic tricks, it was just that – tricks with no real Magic Power felt by Mu Ying.
But the surrounding crowd watched with relish, bursting into cheers and even offering money as tips.
Mu Ying walked along the central avenue of Canteryala and found an inn close to the Royal Palace.
"Sorry, we are fully booked; recently many people have come to the Royal Capital," the front desk attendant explained.
"All here for the position of little princess’s Fairy Godmother?" Mu Ying asked.
The attendant replied, "And there are merchants and minor nobles who have come for the little princess’s hundred-day feast."
After leaving this inn, Mu Ying circled the Royal Palace a few times, finding that nearly all of the surrounding inns were full.
In the end, she returned to the inn near the entrance of the Royal Palace and with some money, secured the right to park in the stable, deciding to stay in her carriage.
Once inside the stable, she found many others doing the same as her.
"Hey, are you here to apply for the position of Fairy Godmother too?" asked a middle-aged woman who entered right behind her.
Mu Ying shook her head, "No."
Turning her head, she overheard the woman say to someone else, "I told you, just look at how young she is, she probably hasn’t even had her own experiences yet, how could she take care of a child?"
"Are you applicants for the Fairy Godmother?" Mu Ying asked with newfound interest after hearing their conversation, "I heard that Fairy Godmothers know Immortal Law, do you?"
"Of course!" said the middle-aged woman who had asked her earlier, "I’m the Song Fairy, and my voice possesses a soothing Strength, capable of bringing peace of mind. If it weren’t for the little princess needing a Fairy Godmother, I would have already been taken in by other wealthy nobles."
"I’m the Flower Fairy, and my hands make flowers bloom better," said the woman beside her, "A noble from a fiefdom invited me as well to be the godmother for their soon-to-arrive baby."
Mu Ying was stunned for a moment, observing their excessive confidence and the disdainful way they looked down their noses as if waiting for her to fawn over them, she casually replied, "Oh, that’s impressive. Could you demonstrate?"
"Certainly not, Immortal Laws have a cost and can’t be revealed lightly, unless..." the woman claiming to be the Song Fairy trailed off, eyeing the Gemstone Ring on Mu Ying’s hand.
Mu Ying was speechless, noticing her sharp gaze fixated on her storage ring, "No matter, I’ve lost interest."
She wasn’t overly curious, she was quite certain that in the Emerald World, apart from witches, only mermaids, Werewolves, and certain members of the Extraordinary Race and Extraordinary Creatures possessed magical abilities. The Immortal Laws mentioned by these two were obviously fake.
