Chapter 166: Chapter 165 Greedy for Money
Zhou Hongfei’s carriage had just reached the outskirts of the Qingshan Forest.
Faced with the endless mountain roads and stone steps, Zhou Hongfei found himself in a dilemma.
This spacious carriage pulled by two horses was his treasure, more eye-catching than a luxury car before the apocalypse.
In his imagination, when he arrived in Qingshan Town with his luxury vehicle, he would receive envious and admiring glances from others, and also show Mu Ying his strength.
But now, these stone steps were blocking his way.
"Brother, why don’t you talk to your master, see if he needs a parking area? Our squad has a spot in the sub-camp over there, we can offer you free parking, a discount price of half a silver coin per day. Alternatively, you can take a shortcut through the transmission array to the main territory, it’ll cost two silver coins."
The lackeys of Old Mao spoke at the right time to the person beside the carriage. They hadn’t left; they were lingering with the sole purpose of offering free directions here. Without milking something out of this feudal lord, how could they rest contentedly?
After he finished speaking, he even lowered his head and snorted, what era was this, to still play the master and guard act. They weren’t that childish, and it was impressive that these tough men could bend their dignity so low.
This guard, of course, leaned in to repeat it by the carriage window.
In reality, the sound insulation of the carriage wasn’t good, and Old Mao didn’t lower his voice; Zhou Hongfei heard everything clearly. However, he listened once more as the guard repeated it, which was his way of commanding his subordinates.
He certainly didn’t intend to park his carriage in a place out of sight; he could only take the shortcut through the transmission array.
Two silver coins, how steep!
Although Zhou Hongfei was a lord and the wealthiest person in Feihong Town, he was a mage, the profession that needed the most gold injections, and he was planning to build a transmission array, so his purse was not particularly ample.
He knew he was being fleeced!
But according to Old Mao, one had to own land in the cultivation camp to get in, and there were no other people around for comparison shopping. He surely couldn’t just leave his precious carriage here, could he? He had no choice but to bite the bullet.
"Agreed,"
Zhou Hongfei replied, feeling somewhat pained in his heart. He consoled himself with the thought that one must invest to see returns: "one can’t catch the wolf without sacrificing some kids," as the saying goes.
"Hey! You’re truly generous," grinned one of Old Mao’s lackeys as he happily took the two silver coins and led them to the cultivation camp.
With money in hand, their service became much more attentive, and they even thoughtfully introduced the cultivation camp to them.
Zhou Hongfei raised an eyebrow upon hearing this; he didn’t expect the young Mu Ying to be so adept at amassing wealth, even renting out land in the camp.
However, something didn’t add up; the amount of land this man claimed to possess and the size of the camp didn’t match.
He buried the doubt in his heart, preserving his own pride, without asking.
By taking the shortcut through the cultivation camp, Zhou Hongfei and his company finally avoided the mountain road. This alleviated some of his resentment over the money spent; he opted to teleport directly to the territory’s gate so he could still make his grand entrance.
After Zhou Hongfei’s carriage vanished from sight, Old Mao’s lackeys also teleported away. However, they didn’t teleport to the territory’s gate but went straight to their own tree house to report to their boss.
With no more easy pickings, they didn’t have the patience to entertain the ancestors any longer.
Zhou Hongfei teleported with his carriage to the territory’s gate. He straightened his posture, smoothed his silver-thread embroidered mage’s robe, adjusted his expression and angle, and stretched out his distinct, model-worthy hands to slightly lift the curtain of the carriage window, looking askance.
A few yellow leaves curled and drifted past the carriage.
Zhou Hongfei’s perfect jawline twisted maddeningly. Where was everyone?
Hadn’t that (man/person) gone to send a message earlier?
Setting aside Mu Ying himself, didn’t the other people in the territory have any curiosity?
His large, conspicuous carriage and yet, no one paid any heed?
Zhou Hongfei almost lost control of his expression. He let the curtain fall back down, "Guard One, go see what the situation is!"
The number one guard obeyed the order and went ahead, and after a short while, he returned, "All the roads within this territory are in the air, and there are quite a few people above. I saw many people gathering in one place, which must mean something has happened. That’s why there aren’t many people at the gate."
Zhou Hongfei’s expression improved upon hearing this, "Let’s go there and take a look."
After a while, he indeed heard the noisy discussion outside, though it was not quite what he had expected.
"Are these the people of Feihong Town? How did such a large carriage get across those stone steps?"
"These two horses look a bit thin, I’m afraid they won’t be able to endure the long journey. It’s better if they were fatter, more comfortable to ride."
"If a rabbit gets fat, can it still hop? If a horse gets fat, can it still run?"
"Which one is Zhou Hongfei?"
"Probably sitting inside the carriage!"
"Speaking of which, what’s he doing stopping here? Not coming out, hiding away, what’s the problem?"
"Is there a possibility that he also wants to stay in the inn, and we are crowding here, blocking the way?"
The others looked at each other, "Let’s make some room, we can’t delay the excitement, oh no, we can’t disrupt Boss Jiu San’s business!"
Zhou Hongfei: ...
Right now, he just wanted to launch a huge fireball to blast these brainless people into minced meat.
Fortunately, the people in front made way, and his carriage could now approach the inn.
He didn’t bother lifting the curtain to peek outside, but instead directly flung the door curtain aside and jumped out gracefully, offering a gentle smile to the onlookers, "Does anyone know where the Lord of this esteemed territory is? Could you inform me? A generous reward is assured!"
A clever person immediately leaped out, "A generous reward, what kind of reward? Money?"
Zhou Hongfei barely kept his polite smile intact, "This one silver coin is the payment."
The man snatched the silver coin, "The Lord is inside the inn."
Zhou Hongfei: So, was he conned again? What kind of people are there in this territory?
He wanted to remember the face of this greedy peasant for revenge later, but the man had already disappeared into the crowd.
The others were beating their chests and stamping their feet, annoyed at themselves for being too slow to react while they were busy admiring his forum-praised looks and his apparently expensive Mage robe.
Once, a silver coin had fallen to the ground, and they had been too focused on watching the owner to pick it up. Now, they could only eye the owner’s pocket, hoping for another chance.
"The Lord is inside with someone you’d never expect, one silver coin and I’ll tell you."
"One silver coin, and I’ll show you around the territory, want to try?"
...
Zhou Hongfei had a renewed understanding of the money-grubbing people of Qingshan Town, and he wasn’t about to be taken for a fool again, "No thanks, I’ll go have a look myself."
The onlookers were filled with regret as the chance for small change flew away.
As the benefactor’s shiny wings expired, everyone reverted to their nature as onlookers.
While making room for Zhou Hongfei, they all crowded towards the entrance of the inn.
"It’s coming, it’s coming, a Shura Field!"
"Always feels like our Lord is a casanova, about to be discovered by an old flame while ensconced with his new love!"
"How dare he count as an old flame, who’s ever been so eager to be one?"
