Chapter 139 - 138 Fire-breathing Chicken

Chapter 139: Chapter 138 Fire-breathing Chicken

Reveling in the service of being tucked in Mu Ying’s embrace, Gungun gave a smug look at Shi Yin perched on her shoulder.

Shi Yin figurine: "Humph, crafty mimic!"

Mu Ying had no idea, but he had noticed that this scheming Iron-eating Beast had been eyeing it for several weeks; it definitely had been plotting from the start.

Considering that it was Mu Ying’s animal companion, he hadn’t made a fuss about it.

Mu Ying was completely unaware of the legal dispute between Gungun and Shi Yin, as she was busily driving the ox cart out of the plantation camp.

The stone steps in the woods were not easy for the ox cart, so she had changed the meeting point to the end of the gravel road outside the forest.

By now, all 50 players who had successfully accepted the territory task had arrived.

"Moo!"

The clear bellow of the Old Yellow Bull attracted their attention.

"Is this Old Huang?" Lu You asked hesitantly, recalling that when they had rented the bull to till the land, Old Huang hadn’t been this robust and spirited.

"Must have evolved too," Huo Shaobai noted, observing the winds swirling around the bull’s feet.

"Everyone here?" Mu Ying counted the people, "Let’s set off! Two scouts, lead the way!"

Chunan lay to the south of the original Qingshan Town, separated by the Qingshan Forest.

However, rather than going straight through the forest, Mu Ying opted to find the roadbed from before the apocalypse and construct a gravel road over it.

That might have been a bit of a detour, but the speed might not have been slower than going straight through because it saved a lot of time in road clearing.

But Mu Ying had never been to Chunan, so she found two people to guide them.

"Okay!" A lanky man and a burly woman stepped to the front of the group.

The man, named Guan Hai, was Niu Shun’s teammate, a Wanderer; the woman, named Zhao Hehua, was the Barbarian from Nie Ying’s team, carrying a heavy axe.

The two standing together created a striking contrast.

"Haha, Guan Hai, you’re too weak," somebody teased him lightly, not daring to mock the formidable Zhao Hehua, so they picked on Guan Hai instead.

Guan Hai snorted coldly, "This physique of mine is perfect for being a Wanderer!"

The man was about to continue but was promptly restrained by Niu Shun grabbing his shoulder, which made him immediately quiet down.

The troop started to move, and Lu You approached Mu Ying’s ox cart, "Mu Ying, where did you get another little panda? Do you have any more?"

The others quietly leaned in to listen a bit closer.

Mu Ying was petting the Fur Ball in her hand, "Come on, Gungun, say hello to Lu You."

Gungun made a half-hearted waving gesture with its paw as a greeting.

"This is Gungun? Why has it shrunken?" Lu You asked inquisitively.

"It might be because it runs too slowly. I was worried it would be in danger outside and wouldn’t be able to get away, so I didn’t take it out too often. Then it went through some kind of transformation and awakened this shape-shifting skill, specifically to be carried with me when I go out," Mu Ying looked at Gungun playfully. She had said that Gungun was too slow. Could this possibly provoke it to awaken a speed-oriented skill?

Gungun: "Pssh~"

It didn’t believe her. Just look at the difference in treatment between Big Gungun and Little Gungun, not to mention that beloved little creature. It was clear that Mu Ying only adored the smaller ones.

"There’s a flock of wild chickens at the crossroads ahead, brothers, let’s kill a few for lunch!" Guan Hai returned with news from the scouting ahead, near the old crossroads to Chunan.

"Send a few with quick legs; too many people might scare them off," Huo Shaobai suggested.

"I’ll go!"

"Count me in!"

Mu Ying didn’t interfere with their decision. If there weren’t any noteworthy wild beasts along the way, she would be content playing the mascot. Having paid for help, there was no need for her to do everything herself; steering the general direction would suffice.

Anyway, the mission was clear, and it was up to them to complete it.

Although the task was designed to give the territorial residents a money-making opportunity, it wasn’t about handing out free money.

So right from the start, Mu Ying stated that she would join the combat, but not the leadership; they had to rely on themselves for that.

A few wild chickens shouldn’t be a problem, Mu Ying was quite confident—

"Ah! These chickens are fierce! It hurts like hell!"

Alright, she couldn’t be at ease just yet, Mu Ying stood on the ox cart and looked ahead.

She saw several people who had gone to kill the chickens being chased and pecked pitifully by a flock of them.

The chickens pecked while breathing fire; how could they be ordinary wild chickens?

"Fire-breathing Chickens, Level 2 Magic Beasts, temperamental and violent when threatened, fiercely peck with beaks as sharp as knives, and their skill is fire-breathing."

"These are Level 2 Magic Beasts, Fire-breathing Chickens! They’ve gone berserk," Mu Ying yelled out, "Protect the ox cart!"

Although the chickens were only Level 2 and certainly no match for the players one-on-one, there were too many of them now, and they could overwhelm the players who went to kill them, making it unlikely to counterattack so many people.

However, the Fire-breathing Chickens were enraged, getting fiercer with each peck.

Mu Ying was concerned that they would approach the ox cart and start pecking at Old Yellow Bull’s legs, as it was harnessed to the cart and couldn’t run away easily.

After a part of the players formed a formation to protect the ox cart, Mu Ying also began casting her spell.

Suddenly a chill filled the air, and a snowstorm swept through, freezing the Fire-breathing Chickens’ claws. The fire in their mouths sizzled and turned white the moment it came out. Melted rain and snow perched atop the beaks of the Fire-breathing Chickens, rapidly frozen by the cold air, extinguishing their flames completely.

What followed was a slaughter by the players.

So not long after setting out, they had harvested a bunch of chicken meat.

Carrying all this chicken meat was not an option, so they selected some to process while the rest were plucked, loaded into a sack, and placed on the cart.

Like wild animals, Magic Beasts could be edible as long as they were non-toxic and, in fact, Magic Beast meat was a more premium ingredient, commanding a higher selling price. It was not easy for everyone to give up such meat.

Luckily, the remaining journey was long, and they were sure to find other gains.

"Lord, what was that Spell just now? I’m still shivering!" Guan Hai rubbed his hands together.

"A Tier 3 Druid Spell, Snow Rainstorm," Mu Ying had used this spell against living creatures for the first time. Before, she had only practiced it on empty ground, and now it also proved very rewarding.

Snow Rainstorm was a large-range spell, but it was more about obscuring the vision and control effect rather than its attack power.

The ice hail that formed in the Snow Rainstorm wasn’t dense enough to be considered a lethal weapon against enemies.

Mu Ying wasn’t disappointed; Druid Spells were known for this characteristic, with very few focused on offensive power. It also reflected nature’s compassion from another side.

Continuing on the road, when the team reached the intersection, they saw several female Fire-breathing Chickens urging a group of chicks to flee.

There were also bold little chicks that kept squawking angrily as they ran.

Zhao Hehua brought her ax down with a clang onto the fallen tree in front of her.

Little chicks: !

Can’t mess with that, better run fast!

The team stopped, waiting for the mother hens to lead their chicks into the woods before Mu Ying and the others moved forward.

Kill the adults, spare the young, this was Mu Ying’s principle for dealing with Magic Beasts and wild animals, and she even forced the others who joined the team to do the same.

"Come quick, there are so many eggs!"

The old road base here had been overtaken by wild grass, home to the Fire-breathing Chickens; in the thickets, there were quite a few eggs.
