Chapter 1089: Chapter 1089: Side Story - Live Streaming World 58

After a few more days, Ada came back with a piece of news: the newbie in the People’s Combat Team had died.

This wasn’t really a rare occurrence, since the death rate for newcomers was always high, especially after Nick’s team broke the record and then immediately began tackling new instances without rest. Newcomers couldn’t adapt to the high-intensity team operations, so naturally, it was easy for accidents to happen in the instance.

Of course, one cannot rule out the possibility that... they deemed the newcomer no longer of any use, so they conveniently, appropriately, abandoned them.

...

After lunch, when the sunlight was just right, the clear blue sky was dotted with clusters of white clouds, fluffy and soft, like cotton candy.

Thinking of candy, Bai Youwei wanted some.

With no cotton candy available, she fumbled in her bag for a piece of mint candy, unwrapped it, and put it in her mouth—

A cool and refreshing breath traveled straight from her mouth to her lungs.

She thought back to the days when she had just met Shen Mo. It was in the midst of summer, and to cool off, she would infuse water with mint leaves. The drink was cool with a hint of spiciness, a bit of stimulation, just like the feeling Shen Mo gave her—very much to her taste and even slightly... addictive.

Bai Youwei was lying on the semi-circular second-floor balcony, looking down at the man she had been thinking about.

He was practicing his moves with Ada in the garden, each action and counteraction, back and forth; his agile figure, strong muscles, and slightly damp hair on his forehead, along with his deep, focused eyes, always attracted her.

Biting down gently with her jaw, Bai Youwei crushed the sugar cube, and the burst of mint engulfed her nasal passages, making her squint subconsciously.

She really wanted to devour him...

The recent close calls always fell apart at the very last moment, sometimes due to the lack of the right mood, sometimes the environment wasn’t suitable, and sometimes he seemed to have some reservations.

She wondered if this man was just too serious; despite so many attempts of her "washing hands to make soup", he still seemed not quite convinced that she was his wife.

Sigh...

Truly frustrating.

But she had a feeling that the day wasn’t far off!

Her gaze shifted slightly and caught sight of Yuri by chance.

Yuri was holding a small knife, carving a piece of wood, which seemed to be a little girl.

"Wow~ Such amazing craftsmanship~" Bai Youwei exclaimed, "Brother Yuri, who are you carving?"

Yuri looked up at Bai Youwei on the second-floor balcony and smiled, "Ah, it’s my daughter."

Bai Youwei opened her eyes wide in surprise, "You remember your own daughter?"

"I only remember a vague impression..." Yuri said while gently shaking the wood shavings off his hands, staring at the wooden figurine, "In my memory, she was eight years old. I’ve been here for almost two years, so... she should be ten by now."

Yuri’s eyes softened greatly: "When I leave this place, I should be able to see her..."

Ada then interjected: "So it’s your daughter! I always thought it was Natasha!"

"Ada, you should get your eyes checked!" Natasha’s voice came from inside the house, a mix of annoyance and amusement.

Ada laughed and defended himself: "Hey, I’ve only joined the team for a month, I hadn’t had time to look closely! I only knew it was a girl, and before Weiwei arrived, the only girl in our team was you!"

"Alright, I can’t argue with you! Everyone, come and take a break, the servant has prepared some fruit." Natasha called out from the living room, "Weiwei, come down and have some fruit too."

"Sure thing~" Bai Youwei shuffled downstairs in her slippers, clattering as she went.

Just as she reached the living room, the doorbell rang outside the courtyard.

She peeked out and saw that man again...

"Damn!" Ada strode briskly out to inspect the man at the door, "...have you come for a rematch after being scolded last time? Look, if you’re seeking a rematch, at least bring a few more people. Aren’t you afraid of losing by just coming alone?"

Nick raised his hand, running his thumb over his beard, and smiled, "I’m here to discuss a partnership. You guys must know by now that our team is one member short. Are you... interested in joining?"
