Chapter 57: I Am Glad ,That You Are Okay

Junior stirred awake slowly, his eyelids heavy as he blinked against the soft sunlight streaming into the room. The familiar surroundings of his room came into focus—the wooden walls, the faint smell of herbs in the air, and the comfort of his own bed beneath him.

Turning his head slightly, he spotted Emma sitting beside his bed on a small wooden chair, her head resting on the edge of his bed, fast asleep. Her auburn hair was slightly disheveled, and her chest rose and fell gently with each breath.

Junior tried to move his arm, but he felt something warm and soft holding it down. He craned his neck slightly, wincing at the stiffness in his muscles, and looked down to see Emma’s hand gripping his. Her small fingers were wrapped tightly around his, as if she hadn’t let go for hours.

Carefully, Junior attempted to lift his upper body, but a sharp pain coursed through him, making him groan loudly. "Ouch..." he hissed, lying back down.

The sound startled Emma awake. She sat up abruptly, rubbing her eyes with her free hand. When her gaze landed on Junior, her eyes widened, and tears immediately began to well up.

"You’re awake!" she cried, her voice trembling. Without giving him a chance to respond, she threw herself onto the bed, wrapping her arms tightly around him. "You’re okay! I thought... I thought you’d never wake up!"

Junior winced, the pain shooting through his body. "Emma... ouch! That hurts!"

Emma quickly pulled back, her face flushed with embarrassment, but the relief in her expression was undeniable. "Sorry! I didn’t mean to hurt you," she said softly, wiping her tears with the back of her hand.

Junior took a deep breath, trying to calm the throbbing pain. He looked at Emma with a mix of confusion and concern. "Emma... how did I get here? What happened with Serah? Where is everyone?" His voice was weak but filled with questions.

Emma sat back in her chair, her fingers still nervously playing with the edge of her dress. "It’s... a long story," she said, her voice breaking slightly. She took a deep breath before continuing.

"When everything went crazy, Eira and Merlin came to save us," she began, her eyes glistening with fresh tears. "You... you fought so hard, Junior. You defeated the dark figure, but it was terrifying. I thought we were all going to die."

Junior’s brows furrowed. "I fought? The dark figure?" He struggled to recall the events, but his mind was blank. The last thing he remembered was Serah. "I don’t... I don’t remember any of that."

Emma nodded, her tears spilling over as she continued. "You don’t remember because you passed out. But even when you were unconscious, you... you saved us. You saved me, Junior. That dark thing was going to kill me, and then you... you..." Her voice broke, and she buried her face in her hands, sobbing.

Junior reached out with his free hand, placing it gently on her shoulder. "Emma... it’s okay. I’m here now," he said softly, though he was still grappling with the weight of her words.

Emma looked up at him, her eyes red and puffy. "I thought you wouldn’t wake up," she whispered, her voice trembling. "I stayed here every day, waiting. You’ve been out for a whole week."

Junior’s eyes widened in shock. "A week?!" he exclaimed, immediately regretting it as pain flared through his body again. "Ouch..."

Emma quickly placed a hand on his chest, gently pushing him back down. "Don’t move too much! You’re still hurt," she said firmly, though her voice was filled with worry.

Junior sighed, his mind racing. "A week... I’ve been out for a week," he muttered, trying to process it. Then another thought struck him. "What about Helen? Is she okay?"

Emma’s expression darkened slightly, and she looked down. "Helen was hurt worse than you," she admitted quietly. "But she’s okay now. She’s being taken care of in her room by Sarah."

Junior exhaled in relief, a small smile forming on his lips. "Thank God she’s okay," he said softly.

Emma watched his face closely, noticing the warmth in his smile as he spoke about Helen. Her chest tightened, and before she realized what she was doing, she climbed onto the bed, sitting on top of Junior.

Junior’s eyes widened in shock. "Emma, what are you doing?" he asked, his voice filled with confusion.

Emma didn’t answer. Instead, she leaned down and kissed him, her lips soft against his. The kiss was brief but intense, silencing him completely.

When she pulled back, her face was flushed, and tears still shimmered in her eyes. "You don’t get to scare me like that again," she said softly, her voice filled with emotion. "You’re not allowed to leave me, Junior. Ever."

Junior stared at her, speechless. His mind was a whirlwind of emotions, confusion, and warmth. He opened his mouth to say something, but no words came out.

Emma climbed off him and sat back in the chair, avoiding his gaze as she wiped her tears. "I’m sorry," she mumbled. "I just... I was so scared. I thought I’d lost you."

Junior swallowed hard, his heart pounding. "Emma..." He paused, searching for the right words. "Thank you for staying with me. I... I’ll do my best to protect you. I promise."

Emma looked up at him, a small smile breaking through her tears. "You always do, Junior."

Junior reached out with his hand, weak but steady, and gently wiped the tears away from Emma’s cheeks. His touch was soft, and his expression carried the weight of guilt and determination.

"I’m sorry," Junior said, his voice low but resolute. "I promise I won’t leave you like that again."

Emma sniffled, her watery eyes meeting his. "Really?" she asked, her voice trembling with hope and disbelief.

Junior smiled, a warm and reassuring smile that lit up his weary face. "Yes," he replied firmly. "I promise."

Emma stared at him for a moment, as if trying to gauge the sincerity in his eyes. Then, without warning, she let out a small laugh of relief and threw herself onto him again, her arms wrapping tightly around his neck.
