Chapter 53: Final Blow
From the darkness, Serah’s voice echoed. "Let’s see how confident you are when I strike."
Eira didn’t flinch. The shadows around her flickered as Serah emerged from one, her blade aimed for Eira’s throat. But before the blade could land, Eira twisted her body effortlessly, catching the attack on her sword. The force of the parry sent Serah stumbling back into the shadows.
Serah tried again, attacking from multiple angles, her strikes swift and unpredictable. But no matter how fast or precise her attacks were, Eira met each one with calculated ease. Sparks flew as their blades clashed, the sound deafening in the confined space.
"You’re predictable," Eira said, her voice calm but cutting.
Serah growled in frustration, retreating back into the shadows. "Predictable? You haven’t seen anything yet."
From the darkness, Serah’s attacks became more erratic. She used her assassin skills to manipulate the shadows, creating illusions and decoys to confuse Eira. Blades seemed to come from all directions, but Eira remained steadfast, her movements sharp and efficient.
In one powerful sweep, Eira shattered the illusions, her sword glowing faintly with the energy of her swing. The real Serah was forced out of the shadows, stumbling into the open.
Eira didn’t hesitate. She closed the distance between them in an instant, her sword a blur as she swung it with devastating force. Serah barely managed to block, the impact sending her skidding across the floor.
"Is this all you have?" Eira asked, her tone dripping with disdain.
Serah panted, sweat dripping from her brow as she glared at Eira. "Don’t get cocky!" she spat, forcing herself to stand.
Eira smirked, her grip on her sword tightening. "You’re out of tricks, Serah. This ends now."
Serah lunged forward again, desperation fueling her movements. But Eira was ready. In one swift motion, she sidestepped the attack and brought the hilt of her sword crashing down on Serah’s back.
Serah cried out as she collapsed to the ground, her weapon slipping from her grasp.
Eira stood over her, her sword pointed at Serah’s throat. "Any last words?" she asked, her voice cold and emotionless.
Serah glared up at her, her lips trembling as she struggled to speak. But before she could say anything, Eira pressed the blade closer, silencing her. "You’ve already said enough," Eira said.
Eira’s blade hovered over Serah’s throat, its edge gleaming faintly in the dim light. The room was silent except for Serah’s labored breaths and the faint hum of Eira’s blade.
Serah’s glare didn’t waver, even as blood dripped from her lips and her body trembled from exhaustion. Her voice was weak but defiant. "You think... this is over?" she rasped, forcing a twisted smirk onto her bloodied face.
Eira tilted her head slightly, her gaze unwavering. "No, Serah," she said, her tone devoid of emotion. "This is the end."
With a swift and precise motion, Eira brought her blade down, the sound of steel slicing through flesh filling the room. Serah’s head fell to the ground with a dull thud, her lifeless body collapsing moments later.
Eira stood there, her sword still raised, as silence blanketed the room once more. Blood pooled around her feet, glistening in the faint light. Slowly, she lowered her weapon, her breathing steady despite the intensity of the battle.
She turned her gaze to Junior’s unconscious form, her expression softening. She walked over to him, kneeling down and placing a gentle hand on his shoulder. "Rest now, young master," she whispered, her voice heavy with exhaustion and sorrow. "It’s over."
Far away, Merlin felt the surge of energy dissipate. His smirk widened as he leaned on his staff, glancing at Zyrith, who was still trembling from the remnants of Eira’s bloodlust.
"Well," Merlin said cheerfully, "I suppose that’s one less problem to worry about."
Zyrith, her voice shaky, finally managed to speak. "She... she actually killed her," she stammered, her eyes wide with disbelief.
Merlin chuckled softly. "When Eira decides to end something, there’s no turning back."
Few second had passed ,Merlin frowned as the silence stretched. He turned to Zyrith, expecting a sarcastic remark or at least a snide comment. Instead, he saw her trembling uncontrollably, her wide eyes staring at nothing in particular, her lips quivering as though she wanted to scream but couldn’t find the breath.
"Zyrith," Merlin said, his tone uncharacteristically sharp. "What’s wrong? Why are you shaking?"
Zyrith’s lips moved soundlessly at first, but then she managed to stammer, her voice barely above a whisper, "We... we’re going to die."
Merlin’s brows furrowed in confusion. "What are you talking about? Stop speaking nonsense."
Zyrith grabbed his sleeve, her fingers cold as ice, her nails digging into his arm. Her eyes locked onto his, wild and terrified. "That mana... That *thing*," she hissed, her voice cracking. "It’s... it’s him. The Demon Lord. He’s here!"
The color drained from Merlin’s face. He was about to dismiss her words as hysteria when he felt it—a deep, suffocating darkness rolling over them like a tidal wave. It was heavy, oppressive, and impossibly familiar.
Merlin’s heart skipped a beat. "No..." he muttered, his voice barely audible. Then louder, "No, that’s not possible. He’s supposed to be sealed!"
The mana grew stronger, a crushing force that pressed down on him like an invisible hand. The air grew colder, the very fabric of reality seeming to tremble under the weight of the presence.
Merlin’s instincts kicked in. He raised his staff, the crystal atop it glowing with an urgent light. "We don’t have time for this!" he barked. "Hold on!"
Zyrith didn’t respond, too paralyzed by fear to protest. Merlin began chanting, his voice resonating with an ancient power. His staff blazed with a brilliant golden light, forming a protective circle around them. The runes etched into the staff began spinning, glowing brighter with every word he spoke.
The world around them seemed to warp and twist as Merlin’s spell activated. The ground beneath them shimmered like rippling water, and in the blink of an eye, the scenery blurred into streaks of light and shadow.
