Chapter 528: Chapter 290: Good Fortune Is Neither Fortunate Nor Kind
"When you think about it, this thing has been soaked in water for a few thousand years, right? How come it’s not ruined?" After Gu Shanhai fished out the Human Emperor Tripod, he cleaned it up and found that it was of really good quality, completely undamaged.
It just smells a bit strong.
It had soaked at the bottom of the water for so many years with all the silt and various messes, so it’s normal for it to have a smell.
"This thing, like the Earth Emperor Tripod, has no special effects, it’s just a tripod of special materials."
After inspecting it, Gu Shanhai realized that except for some different engravings and patterns, there wasn’t much difference, even the style was exactly the same.
Then he quickly tucked it away.
"Next up, it’s just the Heavenly Emperor Tripod left." Gu Shanhai had performed Prophetic Divination before and discovered if he went personally, he would encounter signs ranging from slight to high danger, meaning the other party might have some form of surveillance, and someone with his high profile would likely be noticed.
Even though he had changed his appearance completely, there could still be unexpected occurrences.
Therefore, he exchanged for a guide through karmic exchange; and believe it or not, there actually was a solution.
It was just a bit troubling.
As for why he encountered signs of minor and major danger, he himself was also baffled, mainly because the results of the divination were distorted and indiscernible, leaving him with no further means.
"Let’s wait at the place predicted by the prophecy." After Gu Shanhai dealt with the traces here and swept away various leftovers, he then left using the Five Elements Great Escape.
According to the guide, someone was going to lead him into the city, though he needed to provide a bit of assistance.
"Speaking of which, at this dead of night, will there really be anyone passing through?" Gu Shanhai squatting in a forest area, it was said that in about two hours, somebody would come by.
This situation, it’s not that odd, it just meant that the person coming wasn’t exactly respectable.
Respectable people wouldn’t walk through the forest in the middle of the night.
Two hours went by in a flash, and Gu Shanhai, almost dozing off, soon noticed some movement, and then he got up and stretched his body.
"Five men and a woman, the woman is running ahead with the men chasing her. Isn’t this way of eloping a bit bold?" Gu Shanhai began to question his life.
He had seen elopements before, normally involving a man and a woman, but five men to one woman really challenged his ideas.
"Can’t deny, this woman’s skills are top-notch," Gu Shanhai remarked.
Then he heard a cry for help.
"Help!!!" The woman’s voice, and it sounded somewhat hoarse, probably from shouting herself hoarse.
She could be seen running with disheveled hair and shouting, her body covered in mud. From her battered appearance and her lost shoes, it looked more like she was fleeing a calamity rather than eloping, as elopers would typically be disheveled, not dirtied.
"Heh heh heh, you can shout your throat hoarse, but no one will come to save you." Gu Shanhai couldn’t help blurting this out.
Suddenly, the atmosphere froze.
The five men chasing her also stopped in their tracks, staring at Gu Shanhai who seemed to have appeared out of nowhere.
And the woman looked terrified, feeling trapped between a rock and a hard place.
"Sorry, sorry, it’s just that the atmosphere was too fitting, I got carried away," Gu Shanhai said with an awkward smile.
"..."×6
They hadn’t expected to encounter a lunatic in the middle of the night.
"You guys are playing so thrillingly at night, isn’t that bad? Young people should be moderate," Gu Shanhai chided gently.
"Sir, help me, these five men are trying to kill me, they are thieves!" The woman, no longer holding back, hastily cried out for Gu Shanhai’s help.
"Shh~" Gu Shanhai gasped and then exclaimed, "Terrifying indeed!"
This made the people feel even more that Gu Shanhai had some serious issues.
"If you know what’s good for you, just scram. Pretend you never came here," the lead man smartly didn’t say anything quirky like ’surrender and I’ll spare your corpse,’ instead deciding not to unnecessarily complicate matters.
"If you say ’surrender,’ I might believe you, but you’re not planning to attack me while I run, are you?" Gu Shanhai asked suspiciously.
This remark left the five men somewhat bewildered; it seemed they had inadvertently crossed paths with him.
Silencing him was not necessary; none of the three parties knew each other, and it could inadvertently cause trouble.
Besides, they weren’t locals, so they didn’t worry about being discovered. Killing the victim and fleeing back in the cover of night to report, who would know it was them.
"Not leaving? Fine, then you can stay too," the lead man revealed a ferocious expression, good intentions dismissed, and decided to deal them all the same, a knife wouldn’t mind an extra target.
Looking at how Gu Shanhai appeared soft and tender, a knife would certainly dig in cleanly.
"Looks like this is messed up, any suggestions?" As the five men surrounded him, Gu Shanhai inquired of the woman.
The woman glanced at Gu Shanhai then blurted out, "Run!"
With that, she no longer cared about appearances and simply bolted.
Gu Shanhai thought it made some sense, and since she said to run together, then run it is; he had thought he might have to intervene.
As a chivalrous hero, Gu Shanhai must abide by the law, like not going against a woman’s wishes.
Mainly because Gu Shanhai was pondering whom to assist; the prophecy mentioned the person who could lead him into Yong’an City might not necessarily be this woman; it could also be the five men opposite.
