Chapter 1920: Chapter 349: Lesson 2 (End)
Thus people often say, after the ancients, it is beneficial to discuss their mistakes; but it is difficult to be in their positions and perform their deeds.
Now, the worldview of the Xiehe sects has naturally advanced significantly compared to a thousand years ago. However, given that Xiehe is too unique and the cosmic space navigated by the solitary Martial Arts Monarch is very limited, all sects believe that Xiehe is the center of the universe, and all celestial bodies revolve around Central Earth’s continent.
This understanding is naturally much more advanced than the mythical stories from a thousand years ago, but it is not objectively correct either, because what’s true in this star region becomes subjective at a slight distance.
Therefore, Tang Luo directly introduced the version 3.0 of the worldview.
Disciples directly experiencing this shock face two outcomes.
One is to be broken, then infused with new nourishment, reassembled, creating a new worldview.
The other is to be completely shattered, intimidated by the vast endless void, either surrendering to insignificance with a lost Dao Heart, or plunged into doubt and reckless abandon.
Tang Luo observed his disciples’ state of mind changes with interest, eager to see how many different kinds of flowers could bloom from seeds given the same nourishment.
...
The divine pillar dispersed, returning light to the world.
For just a moment, as if one’s spirit had been completely transformed, the disciples exiting the spiritual vision state found it hard to return to themselves. In this situation, advanced insights seemed to become shackles.
This was because disciples from the back mountain already had no real concept of the world nor firm beliefs; although they were stunned to see the vast void, they quickly pursued other things.
After all, having only sent their minds to heaven, roaming through barren desolation, they couldn’t hold back their curiosity, eager to express their opinions.
"Goodness, this void is so vast."
"Isn’t it, and those stars? Seeming so tiny, yet up close, they’re larger than the moon!"
"Hey, do you think there might be people like us living on all those stars above?"
"There must be, you see, we looked in one direction without seeing the end and encountered almost ten thousand stars. But ahead there are still countless stars, which scares me. Among so many stars, there must be; if not, let’s ask our master!"
"Since there aren’t ten or eight thousands, why insist there surely must be? I think maybe there are no other humans like us in the void; Xiehe Human Race may be the only one!"
Because the disciples from the back mountain had limited understanding, they recovered quickly. Initially, their voices trembled, but as they began discussing among themselves, the fear and discomfort gradually dissipated.
The disciples from the Tang Family recovered slightly slower, and their discussions differed.
"After the holy war, the Human Race expelled the Demon Race from the void. Now it seems that the demon grand saint led the remaining tribes to flee. Do you think there could be a star up there populated with countless demons?"
"Almost certainly, I read notes from the dean’s first public lecture. It stated he speculated that Spiritual Power is not inherent to Xiehe; it only emerged after the Demon Race appeared here. So it turns out the Demon Race must have migrated to Xiehe from some star in the void."
"The Demon Race won’t come back, will they?"
"What are you scared of? When the sky falls, the tall ones hold it up. With all the grand saints and sects, there’s no fear if demons return."
"Hey, Brother Tianyu, why are you so lost? You haven’t said a word."
Tang Tianyu’s eyes were blank, seemingly deaf to his junior’s calls, just staring blankly at the ground as if he had lost his soul.
Eager to attend the second class was due to seeking a way to surpass Yang Fan. But after the second lesson, he faced even greater despair.
This despair was much deeper and more distant than what Yang Fan brought to him.
It even made him question whether such tiny beings like the Human Race held any meaning in existence.
On those desolate dead stars that have been lifeless for billions of years, was there once life like theirs, and where did that life go now?
He wanted to seek, yet feared finding the answer. Such reluctant fear and despair almost consumed his consciousness.
Tang Tianyu’s situation was not an isolated case. The better the aptitudes on the path of cultivation, the more likely one was to get trapped in such paradoxes.
It’s said, achievements arise from perseverance, and defeats also stem from it; just like how almost every sect’s disciple was mentally shaken, even Di Shen and Yao Gekuang, who had already sought their self-nature, changed their expressions drastically.
After barely stabilizing their minds, they stepped forward to bid farewell to the Human King in the pavilion.
Tang Luo could see through their troubles at a glance and said kindly: "If you don’t mind, there are secluded caves for meditation on the west of Red Cloud Mountain."
Thrilled upon hearing this, they expressed their gratitude and vanished in no time.
After a good long while, those sect disciples also gradually regained composure, though they still appeared anxious and unsettled, they could now speak fully.
They didn’t have the courage of Di Shen and Yao Gekuang to directly leave; even though eager to, they stood strong and firm.
Seeing the time was ripe, Tang Luo announced:
"Having understood your mind’s nature and seen the vast heavens, this is your lesson: seek the meaning of cultivation, and deliver on this before the third class."
Knowing full well the disciples still had innumerable queries, Tang Luo, like in the first class, set the task, for sometimes an answer found by oneself is the truest.
Therefore, the pavilion only had a Dharma Aspect of Primary Qi left.
For the back mountain disciples, not voicing their concerns was a tad regretful, but for the sect listeners, the sooner it ended, the better.
The second class’s content far exceeded what they could judge. Returning to the sect as swiftly as possible to seek guidance from their teachers was imperative!
...
Lei Yaoqian stumbled back to the mansion of Xiling City Qiyao Temple. His lost and bewildered state greatly startled Master Lei Hong.
Previously, he assumed this stubborn kid would return from the mountain, complaining to seek benefits. But he hadn’t expected him to return in such a state.
Clearly, what this boy experienced on the mountain was by no means trivial.
"Didn’t you look down on this class before? Why now returned so as if your soul was captured, what’s the trouble? Feel free to seek answers from this sect."
Though concerned at heart, Lei Hong spoke in a light-hearted tone.
Yet naturally buoyant Lei Yaoqian showed no response, remaining silent for a long while before finally lifting his head to ask with difficulty, "Master, the void Chapter of the Seven Luminaries Sutra states that the Central Earth continent of Xiehe is the center of the Endless Void; is this fact or fabrication?"
The Seven Luminaries Sutra is the fundamental scripture of Qiyao Temple and forms the Dao Heart of its disciples. Lei Hong immediately understood why Lei Yaoqian appeared so lost after such an experience.
Looking into his opponent’s eyes, all the self-awareness and liveliness vanished since ascending the mountain, replaced by tremendous agony threatening to tear apart his state of mind.
"First, steady your spirit, then recount everything you saw and heard on the back mountain to this sect!"
