Chapter 1813: Chapter 244: Touching Hearts

The Heaven Sect Dao Child, Tianlong, unaware of the deeper implications in Yiqi Weimao’s words, assumed that Little Miasma Peak’s research on the Void Spiritual Body had borne fruit and was utterly thrilled.

"This is fantastic!"

Yiqi Tianlong smacked his palm with a fist and laughed heartily: "If the Poison Spirit Body can be used as the foundation for forging a Void Body, then the potency of spiritual toxins would no longer be a drawback. In fact, we could find ways to further amplify them, pushing them to the limits of what cultivation techniques can endure. This is truly wonderful news!"

While other sovereigns of the Superior Heavenly Sect might dismiss the unproven path of the Void Body, the Medicine God Sect had long been eager for it.

After all, statistics from several battles had shown the sheer might of the Void Body—a strength that needed no elaboration. Even a powerhouse like Lei Gongteng’s deadly strikes had proven ineffective against Tang Luo, as though scratching him through thick boots. Lei Gongteng dared not even make face-to-face contact and instead chose to flee in shame.

Yiqi Weimao observed his disciple’s excited demeanor, his face betraying no emotion, as he calmly continued: "If you’re truly tempted, cease your research on spiritual toxins immediately. Afterward, follow a certain great figure’s teachings; they’ll assist you in forging the Void Battle Body. If your aptitude proves extraordinary, further breakthroughs might not be unimaginable."

"Huh?!"

Like a bucket of cold water poured over his head, Yiqi Tianlong’s transition from exhilaration to composure happened in an instant.

The former Dao Child of Medicine God Sect frowned deeply, suspicion flickering in his eyes. He stared at the Little Miasma Peak master and questioned: "Master, are you hiding something from your disciple? While our sect is a Superior Heavenly Sect, we’re not known for excelling in martial studies. How could we be the first to develop Void Battle Body techniques? Moreover, where did this supposed great figure suddenly emerge from?"

"What’s with so many questions? This is the Divine Sect’s collective decision. The Yiqi lineage worked tirelessly to secure this opportunity for you, you ungrateful brat. Instead of expressing gratitude, you question this and that. You really deserve a beating!"

Feigning casualness, Yiqi Weimao raised his hand as if to strike, but his disciple’s cold and unwavering expression stopped him. He put his hand down awkwardly, sighed quietly, and muttered: "The rabbit of yesteryears wasn’t this stubborn..."

"Master, please tell your disciple the truth."

Yiqi Tianlong’s chilling tone cut through the air: "Why has a so-called great figure suddenly appeared to teach Void Battle Body techniques? And why was the disciple specifically chosen? Was it Tang Luo who came forward, offering Void Body Refinement techniques in exchange, prompting the sect master to sell me off?"

...

Outside of He Shou Peak’s outer courtyard.

Tang Luo and Yun Xiu sat by the cliff edge, gazing at the rolling clouds under the Divine Light-streaked heavens, idly chatting.

"We can’t force someone like Yiqi Tianlong to submit. Even as a sovereign now, I can’t make it happen. But the Medicine God Sect can—because it’s where he was born and raised. He owes the sect, a debt that even his life cannot repay."

"Thus, even if a situation arises where the sect demands something that goes against his True Heart, even corrupting his Dao Heart, he is likely to bow his head. Even if his Dao Heart shatters and his soul burns under divine flames."

Yun Xiu listened to Tang Luo’s analysis, a hint of pity flashing in her eyes. "Such methods seem overly cruel to Tianlong Dao Child."

"How can there be a perfect path in this world?"

Tang Luo let out a sigh. "I, too, hope for more individuals like Tianlong Dao Child here in Xiehe. But certain matters lie beyond personal will. Anyone in this world can stand atop the clouds and hurl insults at the Tang Family, but I cannot. Anyone in this world might wish for the Tang Clan to fall into the depths, but as long as there is even the slightest chance, we must pull it out of the mire. Given the circumstances, all we can do is hope Jiang Clan’s methods remain gentle and strive to compensate for Tianlong Dao Child in the aftermath."

"Will Tianlong Dao Child refuse the offer?"

Yun Xiu voiced her worries. "Judging by his impulsive decision to kill his sect brothers without hesitation, his actions seem far too extreme."

Looking at the rolling sea of clouds, Tang Luo stayed silent. The cloud layers in the sky twisted and churned ever more turbulently.

...

Reflection Cliff at Suspending Pot Peak.

Yiqi Tianlong had driven the Little Miasma Peak master away—he could not bear the thought of his own master, who had nurtured him with such kindness, demanding him to bow down to evil.

Simply because the other was a once-in-a-millennium genius, because they had created an unprecedented cultivation technique, or merely for the sake of a minor trade, righteousness must bow before sin. What an outrageous proposition!

But Yiqi Tianlong underestimated Jiang Fuling’s determination to fulfill the wager. Once Yiqi Weimao had left the mountain, the cold and desolate Reflection Cliff became surprisingly lively.

"Uncle Wang, please head back."

Yiqi Tianlong steeled his heart, addressing the elderly man halfway down the mountainside: "This is something Tianlong will handle on his own."

"You’ll handle it? How?"

The hunched-over elderly man, his face riddled with toxic sores, grumbled: "The sect master said that once you refine the Void Spiritual Body, you won’t face an early death anymore, and your toxins won’t harm others. Why won’t you learn?"

"Uncle Wang, the person they want me to save is a demon who treats countless lives as mere blades of grass. When this demon lacked power, they already disrupted the world. Now that they’ve gained immense strength, releasing them could spell untold suffering for Xiehe. I cannot agree to this!"

"Ack, stubborn kid!"

The elderly man huffed indignantly: "That guiding figure promised to oversee things; the demon won’t harm others anymore. And if they do, you can poison them again later! Why refuse cultivation? It would allow you to live longer!"

"Uncle Wang!"

Yiqi Tianlong cried out in anguish: "I beg you—don’t force me anymore. I truly cannot do this!"

Years ago, when his spiritual body awakened and the toxins within him surged unchecked, even his parents feared to approach him. It was this elder who, wrapped in protective gear and draped in triple-layer veils, taught him how to live and cared for his emotions.

To Yiqi Tianlong, this act of kindness weighed heavier than Mount Nan itself. He would repay it even with his life without hesitation. Yet the elder’s current request would potentially unleash disaster upon Xiehe; it was a plea he absolutely could not fulfill.

From the elder’s perspective, however, Tianlong Dao Child’s refusal was merely stubbornness. After all, the peak master had said that if Yiqi Tianlong were willing to cultivate that "whatever body," he’d pass on Little Miasma Peak’s legacy to him.

A longer life, no lingering guilt, and the chance to become the peak master—who would refuse such a wonderful offer?

Even if the opposing party was truly a demonic fiend, there were still Divine Monarchs and Heavenly Court. What business did a mere youth have worrying himself?

Unfamiliar with lofty principles, the elderly man saw the world through simple eyes. For him, his beloved nephew’s future mattered above all else.

And if the youngster wouldn’t listen? Well, he’d just have to pressure him!

The hunched elder tossed aside his wooden cane, shuffled hastily to the edge of the cliff, and shouted skywards at the mountain summit: "Refuse, eh? Then Uncle Wang will jump right off and die cleanly!"

"Uncle Wang! What are you doing? The cliff edge is dangerous!"

Seeing the elder leaning out as if to jump, Yiqi Tianlong was alarmed. He rushed out of the cave, shouting urgently downhill: "Step back! Step back now!"

Perhaps realizing words alone wouldn’t suffice, he released his soul-linked Dragon Centipede to pull the elder back to safety. But abruptly, the long-ineffectual warding formations came alive, blocking the hundred-legged Dragon Centipede from extending beyond the barriers.

The stubborn elder had already placed one foot over the cliff edge, his face etched with an uncompromising resolve.
