Chapter 1782: Chapter 215: Determination, Promise
The sudden and inexplicable victory of Unparalleled City shocked everyone, but the most astonished were not the jubilant residents or the warriors of Marshal Star Pavilion who had narrowly escaped death.
It was the two sect disciples inside the Unparalleled Courtyard; to outsiders, the beasts’ rebellion might seem like a Beast Tamer’s error.
After all, even the domesticated battle beasts nurtured by noble families occasionally go berserk. Some families had even mentally rehearsed scenarios of beast rebellion, so when this actually happened, people accepted it readily.
But in the eyes of the two sect disciples learned in ancient and modern lore, such a supposedly minuscule chance was absolutely, certainly, and undeniably impossible!
If the beast command imprints passed down from the Beast Taming Sect were to suddenly fail, it would be the ultimate absurdity of the century. There would only be one conclusion...
The sudden sensation that day was no illusion—within this Unparalleled City, there exists a Human King!
Zhu Huolong felt as if a surge of electricity ran through him, his hair all but standing on end. He hastily knocked on the door of the Qiyao Temple disciple next door, only to find Lei Dong sitting dazed in the courtyard.
"How could there be a Human King in Unparalleled City?"
Speaking in a hushed voice, Zhu Huolong walked up to Lei Dong and grabbed his collar, lifting him up. Though his eyes were filled with rage, his voice remained suppressed as he demanded, "How does Qiyao Temple gather intel? How could you miss such a major event?"
Despite being grabbed, Lei Dong remained as dazed as ever, seemingly unaware that anyone had even entered.
"Fool!"
Zhu Huolong furrowed his brows, letting go of Lei Dong and allowing him to collapse back into his chair. In a chilling tone, he said, "What are you sitting here for? Quickly send Qiyao Temple’s Wind Media to investigate the identity of this king!"
"You should already be aware deep down."
Sitting slumped in the chair with his head lowered into the shadows, Lei Dong muttered in a defeated voice.
"What are you talking about?"
A fleeting moment of panic crossed Zhu Huolong’s face before he barked furiously, "Stop pretending to be all mysterious! Investigate immediately! If there really is a king, then our plans must cease at once."
"What is there left to investigate?"
Lei Dong raised his head, pain and mockery etched across his face: "In the entire Unparalleled City, is there anyone more fitting to be king than that one?"
"Nonsense, nonsense!"
Zhu Huolong trembled from head to toe in rage, his veins heating up as if they were about to erupt in flames. Yet his heart felt as though it had sunk into an icy abyss, colder and colder, deeper and deeper.
Without glancing at Lei Dong again, the Wushen Mountain disciple activated his lifesaving spirit jade and vanished in the glow of the Transfer Array.
Watching the light that flared and then extinguished, staring at the now-empty courtyard, Lei Dong chuckled bitterly and lowered his head once more.
To a martial artist whose Dao Heart was shattered, he did not actually fear the Human King. When the path forward was no longer visible, what could be more terrifying than that?
But it had to be *that* individual, it had to be *that* one...
The unconventional tenets of cultivation he once heard, now seemed more ingenious and profound the more he mulled them over.
Should he truly believe in them...
Lei Dong asked himself quietly in this empty courtyard where the sect disciple who had pushed effort to its utmost extremes was interrogating his True Heart.
"Might as well try. In any case, I have nothing left to lose now."
With a hint of bitter self-consolation, Lei Dong rolled up the sleeve on his left arm. The dark purple streaks resembled violets blooming along his wrist, every fine mark representing hours of grueling training. Accumulated from the Mortal Realm till now, there were thousands of marks—the core mystical technique of the Qiyao Temple, the "Ziwei Thunder Imprint."
Disperse!
Lei Dong painfully shut his eyes as brilliant purple lightning roared toward the heavens, stealing the radiance of the entire sky. Perhaps sensing its final bloom, this display of lightning was particularly dazzling.
For several beats, the purple marks on his left wrist faded dramatically, resembling faint scratches on the skin left behind by a needle. They covered him densely.
The Qiyao Temple disciple, his face devoid of expression, removed his shirt. Across his chest, sides, back, and shoulders were markings of different patterns. Each represented one of Qiyao Temple’s mystical arts.
For ordinary practitioners, training in a single art required dedication and immense effort. Yet Lei Dong had trained in eight simultaneously, bringing all to incredible proficiency—a testament to the hard work and sacrifice he invested. But today, he was about to disperse them entirely.
No one could comprehend the confusion and hesitation inside Lei Dong’s heart, but this sect disciple who had pushed himself to the limit gritted his teeth and began dispersing the arts one by one.
This day in the Unparalleled Courtyard, anomalies unfolded as though some spiritual treasure were about to be born.
But when Wind Media gathered at the site, all they found was the unconscious, exhausted Lei Dong lying bare-chested, while the Wushen Mountain disciple had vanished.
After physicians examined Lei Dong’s condition, the entirety of Unparalleled City knew that the Qiyao Temple disciple had lost eight mystical techniques, and even the innate divine thunder nurtured within him by the temple’s elders was forcibly removed.
The reason Lei Dong fell unconscious was due to soul-body weakness from the destruction of methods intrinsically linked to his spirit.
From any angle, such heavy injuries rendered the sect disciple’s combat capability as good as gone. Recovering would take unimaginable years.
Yet upon awakening, Lei Dong showed no intention of hunting down the culprit. He courteously asked the physicians and Wind Media to leave, even dismissing Qiyao Temple’s subordinates.
...
Beast Origin Valley
Having lost all plans, beast commands, and their ability to tame creatures, Shi Muzhi, Gui Bu Zhi Lang, and Murong Jun—battered and bruised—immediately journeyed to Long Valley without rest. They were still met by the Mao Sect disciple overseeing external matters, Cao Yanran.
After hearing the accounts from the three near-death survivors, Cao Yanran suppressed his fury and assured them, "Rest assured, I have fully understood what you have told me. I will immediately report to the Sect Master. If what you say is true, Long Valley will seek justice for these five families!"
"We apologize for troubling the sect disciple!"
Shi Muzhi wiped tears from his temples and lamented, "The loss of a few spirit beasts isn’t much, but my two righteous and heroic elder brothers... It’s all my fault; I should never have sought justice from Red Cloud Mountain back then. I am ashamed before Golden Lion Valley and Dragon Taming Stronghold! Wuuu wuuu wuuu..."
As he spoke of his grief, Shi Muzhi couldn’t hold back his emotions. He began wailing, stirring Gui Bu Zhi Lang and Murong Jun to have reddened eyes and pinched noses.
Watching the plight of the elder leaders, Cao Yanran grew even angrier. "Master Shi, no need to despair. Since this matter was entrusted to me, the Mao Sect will not stand idly by. Please rest in Beast Origin Valley; I will immediately enter the valley to meet with the Sect Master!"
After resolutely making his promise, Cao Yanran turned and entered Long Valley without hesitation, arriving at the Mao Sect’s Grand Beast Hall and striking the Divine Bell.
"Dong~~~"
The resonating chime awakened the valley’s slumbering titanic beasts and drew the attention of several Mao Sect disciples.
When Cao Yanran finished recounting the events, the disciples were furious, condemning Red Cloud Mountain’s despicable arrogance while speculating on how such vast amounts of beast command imprints could have been erased simultaneously.
Amidst the heated discussions of the disciples, the Mao Sect Master, Cao Meng, appeared within the hall.
