Chapter 1249 - Chapter 1249 Chapter 541 Buddha
Chapter 1249: Chapter 541: Buddha Chapter 1249: Chapter 541: Buddha Yanshan descended the mountain to save people, and in Chaochang city, he chanted the sacred Sanskrit loudly. All the rioters who heard the chanting put down their weapons, knelt on the ground with tears streaming down their faces, and were healed of their injuries in the Divine Light of Cihang’s universal salvation.
Even some of the malevolent strong ones from the Fierce Realm, after hearing the scriptures, had their malice dissipated, their murderous intent vanished, and watched the monk depart with wide-open eyes.
In this manner, he chanted the scriptures while walking, and more and more devout followers began to trail Yanshan, pursuing the light of Cihang’s universal salvation, keeping pace with the monk step by step.
This holy scene alarmed the martial artists of the nobility and caused those with ulterior motives to fear like they would from a venomous snake.
Furthermore, some disciples from the noble families, upon hearing of the miracles Yanshan performed, wished they could replace themselves with him. Thus, they also joined the following procession hoping to comprehend the legendary supreme mantra–the Sutra of No Suffering and Extinction.
As the Grand Mantra, Bright Mantra, Supreme Mantra, and peerless Mantra of Buddha’s Country, the Sutra of No Suffering and Extinction reveals a variety of divine marvels according to the cultivator’s own talents and wisdom roots.
In both combat aspects and others, it’s impeccable, except that it’s profound and difficult to understand, and the practice is arduous–it’s almost flawless.
But as a disciple of Zen with the highest level of enlightenment for thousands of years, Yanshan felt that the Sutra of No Suffering and Extinction was far from meeting the standard for attaining the Buddha Position.
Let alone the Buddha Position, he even doubted whether this so-called Bodhisattva visualizing was anything but an illusory mirage.
After thoroughly reading the eighty-four thousand volumes of Buddhist Scriptures of Buddha’s Country, Yanshan despairingly discovered that Buddha’s Country had no path to becoming a Buddha.
Or rather, all the paths before him were incorrect.
When the thought first appeared in Yanshan’s mind, he felt he was being possessed by demons, but after repeated contemplation and verification, he realized that the existing theory of Buddhist Scripture in Buddha’s Country could at best prove only the Arhat Fruit Rank, and all the top heart sutras that claimed to offer enlightenment were nothing but self-deception.
Just as he was now chanting the scriptures, and the rioters were dropping their weapons as if touched by Buddhism, but in reality, it was only because these people’s willpower could not withstand the judgment of the divine mantra and were brainwashed by the Sanskrit sounds.
What enlightenment is this? What universal salvation is this?
This is merely another form of overpowering others by force!
Why, in the history of Buddha’s Country, have so many top Buddha Sons gone mad, possessed by demons, and died of old age in Mortal Realm without even valuing the Bodhisattva Fruit Position?
It’s because, like Yanshan, they found the problem with Buddha’s Country.
There are three Fruit Positions of Zen cultivation: Arhat, Bodhisattva, and Buddha.
The Arhat Fruit Rank is clear, signifying self-awareness perfected.
But what exactly self-awareness perfected means, no one can explain flawlessly.
The Esoteric Sect and the Exoteric Sect have different views, as do the Southern and Northern schools, and even within the Wuxiang Zen Temple, there are several different criteria for judgment.
If one refers to the eighty-four thousand volumes of Buddhist Scriptures of Buddha’s Country, there are many different opinions as well.
If one were to adopt all perspectives, inclusive of all, then self-awareness perfected would require at least the characteristics such as Thief Killer, no-life, and worthy of offerings.
The so-called Thief Killer refers to the purity of the Six Roots, the body like crystal, the mind like a clear mirror, severing three thousand troubles.
As for no-life, it means witnessing the divine unspoiled, transcending reincarnation, liberating from life and death, reaching endless Nirvana.
Being worthy of offerings is merging with heaven and humanity, receiving veneration from all celestial beings, with Spiritual Power never ceasing.
Just these three points of self-awareness perfected are beyond the reach of even the most powerful Buddha Lord of Buddha’s Country. In other words, the current Zen cultivation method cannot even perfectly attain the Arhat Fruit Rank.
Many people believe that the reason meditative prodigies like Yanshan give up the Bodhisattva Fruit Position to prove themselves as a Buddha is out of arrogance.
But only these Zen prodigies know in their hearts that even if they succeed in visualizing the Bodhisattva Samantabhadra Gold Body, it is nothing more than an illusory appearance of a Bodhisattva, lacking any true substance.
And such visualizations cannot be validated by one’s own Buddha nature, leaving these prodigies with only two paths before them!
Either they exterminate their Buddha nature, overturn the rightful teachings of Buddha’s Country, and cultivate this false Bodhisattva form,
or they adhere to their Buddha nature, seek the true teachings, and attain enlightenment.
Of course, there is always a way out in cultivation, and these unparalleled Zen prodigies could opt to bury their heads in the sand like ostriches.
After all, failing to attain the Bodhisattva rank isn’t their fault, and wouldn’t being an Arhat be quite good as well?
At least the Buddhist Scripture Collection clearly outlines how to become an Arahant, with no flaws to exploit and nothing to question.
Like those eighteen eternal Arahants seated in Buddha’s Country, aren’t they the top Zen prodigies who chose an escape route?
They recline half-sitting on lotus seats, with enigmatic smiles, living contentedly in their confusion.
Why bother making things difficult for oneself?
Yanshan stopped reciting the Sutra of No Suffering and Extinction and said indifferently to the long line of people gathered behind him, “You may all return.”
Influenced by the Sutra of No Suffering and Extinction, the devotees left after paying their respects, and Yanshan used his power of swift travel to head toward the central city area.
For some reason, the southern sky above the central city was filled with a vast amount of resentful and hateful death qi, along with a large number of malignant souls. If these two become entangled, they could give rise to plagues or spawn vicious ghosts and Corpse Refiners.
Having seen this, he could not ignore it, for liberating lost souls is the responsibility of a Zen disciple.
At the heart of the resentful death qi was a martial arts school named “Sky Origin,” where, even separated by walls and doors, Yanshan could still smell the corpse refining qi within.
It seems that the malicious spirits and death qi were not a coincidence, but someone inside was practicing Corpse Refining!
Upon entering, a foul stench of decay assaulted his senses. Where wooden dummies and stone locks should have been placed in the training ground, there was a heap of bodies, with flies and maggots incessantly circling around.
Judging by their attire, these corpses were once martial artists, robust with strong muscles and vital blood, which is why even in death, their resentment lingered, and their eyes remained open in anger!
Yanshan brought his hands together in prayer, and Cihang Treasure Light transformed into a Prajna treasure wheel that rose up, intent on purifying the death qi of the training ground, when a hearty male voice came from the martial hall.
“Hold, Buddha Son, if you disperse the corpse qi, my effort in refining corpses will have been in vain!”
Suddenly, the doors of the martial arts school closed, and out of the martial hall came a bald, blue-skinned man with a necklace of one hundred and eight vertebrae hanging around his neck.
Seeing the man, Yanshan greeted him with his hands together in prayer, “I pay my respects to Master Gu Han!”
Despite the greeting, the Cihang Universal Redemption Divine Light did not fade, and the Prajna treasure wheel circulated three times over the training ground, clearing the dense death qi completely, even causing some of the angry corpses to close their eyes.
Corpse Refining relies heavily on death qi, and after being purified three times by the Prajna treasure wheel, the stacked bodies on the training ground had become worthless.
Gu Han, somewhat pained by the waste, returned Yanshan’s gesture lightly, “Destroying so much of my material upon our first meeting, what is the meaning of this?”
“I urge the master to reconsider, for the path of dual cultivation of Buddha and demon is difficult to realize and unlikely to attain the Buddha Position,” replied Yanshan.
