Chapter 785 - 785 410 Orca (4300)_2

Chapter 785: 410 Orca (4300)_2 Chapter 785: 410 Orca (4300)_2 Three hundred and thirty-four.

She was slightly startled, realizing such a number of dark creatures actually lurked in the shadows of Florence, the capital city. She couldn’t imagine how it might pan out in other cities apart from Florence. Three hundred and thirty-four, plus the small portion that happened to escape, probably amounted to four hundred. Each and every time these creatures feed in Florence, four hundred people must die! No wonder the cases of disappearance have been increasing over the recent years…

“Three hundred and thirty-four…”

Suddenly, behind her, a captivating female voice echoed.

The record keeper quickly turned around. Before her eyes was a woman wearing a dark golden hunter’s badge. She had an elegant physique, snow-white skin, and her facial features carried a subtle allure, immediately making people fond of her.

“Sea Demon, Claire.”

Of course, the recorder recognized this person right in front of her, blurted it out accordingly.

Claire smiled and nodded, but she didn’t say anything else. Her captivating eyes began to scan the numerous black wooden boxes piled up in the plaza. All of it was the work of that person from earlier, two nights ago.

That nightmarish scene of a sea of corpses and rivers of blood flashed before her eyes.

Savage, domineering, brutal…

Bai Kui, seemed so ruthless, akin to a shark. All of Florence’s dark creatures swarmed him, yet he refused none! Regardless of the diverse and eerie abilities of those exotic species, he devoured them all. He had absolute confidence in his own strength, and shockingly turned an entire ambush into a slaughterhouse.

Among them were many powerful dark creatures.

Moreover, there were the targets Soss, from the Royal Family, and Solomon, from the Council. Both were equally famous for their ferocious, wild beast-like exotic species, and yet they were slaughtered on their very first encounter. Claire’s target was a werewolf, who was lured by the Black Bait Wood. If it weren’t for Casio realizing his own target had already arrived, leaving him no time to deal with the werewolf, Claire too may have begun the tragic procedure of retaking the exam.

Claire just happened to run into Soss and Solomon going on a mission as she was leaving the headquarters this morning, both their faces were as dark as the bottom of a burned pot. They looked utterly defeated…

At that moment, Claire suddenly remembered the warning words of Aunt Ilian, when she went to veteran hunter Hebu’s house.

“Never face off directly against Bai Kui. He never holds back, he’s ruthless and merciless to everyone…”

Now, looking at the many corpses of dark creatures before her eyes, Claire remembered what Grandpa Rudy said: “In any case, it’s best not to engage Bai Kui in the upcoming Shadow Hunter position competition. Let him deal with the likes of Soss from the Royal Family and Solomon from the Council, and you can just play it safe on the sidelines…”

With this thought in mind, she felt a significant burden lift.

Previously, Claire was somewhat nervous. On the one hand, she feared Casio’s overwhelming strength, and on the other, she was afraid of failing the people who were counting on her…

Now, she had figured it out. Claire was naturally a bit carefree, without a strong ambition. Being a Shadow Hunter may boost her strength and status, but also meant taking on more responsibilities and workload. The future would be filled with relentless turmoil, and an ever-increasing danger.

Perhaps retreat might be a better strategy, just get through this fight and give a face-saving performance to the forces behind her and that would suffice. After all, she had accepted the fact that she wouldn’t be able to defeat Bai Kui.

Claire’s gaze flickered, she turned around and started heading towards the Headquarters.

Meanwhile, in another part of the Central Garden, thorn encased Solomon stood under a dim shadow with a gloomy face, clearly reflecting sentimental sorrow.

He had been an orphan since he was a child and was raised by the Council. He had always understood one thing- that everything in life is a fight! There wasn’t only one Transcendent Being who had been nurtured by the council since childhood. Amid such a group of people, intense competition was inevitable. Resources provided by the Council, teachers’ guidance, practice in actual combat- everything depended on ranking through competition. Without competing, nothing could be achieved!

That’s how Solomon had fought his way up to become the first representative from the Council for the Shadow Hunter Association. His ambition and drive were on a whole different level compared to Claire’s. What if Casio’s strength was overwhelmingly dominant? Solomon still insisted on fighting! If he couldn’t beat him fair and square, he’d have the people in the shadows strike to seize the advantage.

He might not trust the integrity of Candle Soul and the forces backing them, but he certainly can’t ignore their strength. They weren’t even afraid of confronting the Dark Hunt Organization, what else would frighten them? When Solomon failed his second mission and met with Candle Soul, the latter outright made a promise to him.

Candle Soul’s companion would personally take action and send Bai Kui to his death.

Just one sentence was enough to put Solomon’s worries to rest. Solomon knew that Candle Soul’s organization was almost omnipotent, and the organization’s membership threshold was extremely high, which meant each of them was an elite master. With this, Bai Kui’s demise was certain.

“Heh,heh, heh…” Solomon chuckled coldly from the shadows: “To survive, one needs power, one needs a backing. A lone ranger can’t go far…”

Time flew by, and it was dusk again. The setting sun descended westwards, spreading a radiant halo at the edge of the clouds, spreading waves layer after layer. The temperature fluctuated dramatically at the turning of day and night, causing strong winds blow at high altitudes.

The clouds moved quickly, fluttering southwards.

In the sixth district of Florence, near the river, stood a single house. The house was simple and elegant, albeit not particularly luxurious, but it possessed a certain refined charm.

Surrounded by a short white wall, green trees shadow the wall. At the entrance, there’s a circular wooden fence, winding their long green roots. A few green leaves dotted with pink flowers quivered in the wind.
