Chapter 698 - 698 369 Begin to Kill (4000)_2
Chapter 698: 369 Begin to Kill (4000)_2 Chapter 698: 369 Begin to Kill (4000)_2 Casio speculated based on past experience that the so-called Dark Gold Level hunter might have approached the level of a combat fighter. He suspected the six Shadows and Holy Light Hunters to be of the fighter caliber too.
The rest was easy to deduce.
White Luminance Level hunters corresponded to late-stage punch artists, while Black Copper Level hunters matched with knuckles and early-stage punch artists. This was a rough estimate Casio made based on Bai Kui’s strength.
The accuracy should be quite high.
As he thought, his eyes scanned over some of the task details on the mission wall. All the titles were highlighted in bold.
“Investigate the serial murder case in Florence’s Fourth District!”
“Nighttime pedestrian disappearances in Florence’s First District!”
“Suspected appearances of dark creatures in the sewers of the Third District…”
These tasks primarily involved supernatural events within Florence, not including other regions. The difficulty was obviously low, as the headquarters was located in Florence’s Sixth District.
Casio casually glanced over these, focusing on the rewards at the end of each task. One unit, half a unit, one unit… There were rarely any tasks offering more than two units of Holy Springs Water. Some didn’t even offer spring water, but other things instead.
Like money, for instance.
Some were exceptions — they were team-based tasks, normally spanning an entire grading system. This meant they encompassed both Black Copper and White Luminance Levels, making up a small hunter squad.
This was the case with Bai Kui’s last mission.
Casio stood there, reading line by line, without any expression. Hunters shifted about him, yet he remained as still as a statue. Not until a female silhouette appeared at the entrance of the Mission Hall did Casio turn around.
The newcomer was none other than Rose, the young girl he had recently met.
As a Black Copper Level hunter, he couldn’t pick up any highly rewarding tasks at the Mission Hall. Even if he could take on three tasks at once, that bit of Holy Springs Water wouldn’t suffice for Casio. He was particularly interested in the Holy Marks now.
The Holy Mark was a phenomenon that occurred when the body reached a certain level of saturation after drinking Holy Springs Water. Each Holy Mark appearing on the back of one’s hand represented the equivalent amount of spring water consumed.
So, the volume of Holy Springs Water certainly had to be large.
Casio didn’t want to waste time dawdling with Black Copper Level tasks. So, he directly opted for another approach.
Rose was a White Luminance Level hunter and could take up missions at the second floor of the hall, where the rewards were more substantial.
Of course, Casio did not mean for Rose to take up single-player White Luminance Level tasks on his behalf, just so he could complete them. Rather, he suggested her to accept a White Luminance Level team task, then recruit team members – a team of just Casio.
In essence, the two of them would finish the task meant for a larger team.
This would maximize efficiency and the reward. Rose would still get her share; Casio would take the rest. If the team task originally required a nine-member squad, the reward would be the Holy Springs Water for nine. Now split between two, Rose would take one share and the remaining eight shares would belong to Casio. This was beneficial to both parties. Rose, seemingly at no advantage, would essentially benefit tremendously from merely completing the task safely, without lifting a finger. Besides, their task completion speed would be rather fast in this way.
Casio had proposed this arrangement to Rose an hour prior.
Of course, Rose agreed as she had been planning on becoming Casio’s disciple and taking up missions was no trouble for her.
“Master Bai Kui, just give me ten minutes,” Rose said at the staircase of the Mission Hall, one hand on the brass railing.
Her bright, wide eyes were fixed on Casio.
“Just call me by my name, get to it,” he said.
Casio ended the conversation and again addressed the issue of formality. He noticed that the girl called Rose appeared to have a keen interest and desire in mastering illusion arts.
So much so that she held a very enthusiastic and respectful attitude towards Casio, whom she suspected was a master of illusion arts. Who knows what her reaction will be when she finds out that Casio simply manipulates illusions in a crude and straightforward way?
Nine minutes later, a figure reappeared down the stairs.
Fifteen minutes later, Casio and Rose left the Hunter’s Hall. They had received the most rewarding White Luminance Level team mission, twenty units of Holy Springs Water for eight people.
Excluding Rose’s two-and-a-half units, Casio, if he completed his mission, stood to gain seventeen and a half units of spring water. In terms of rewards, this was a world apart from the first-floor tasks.
The first floor necessitated the completion of several tasks to match the second floor.
Back at the Hunter’s temporary residence, Casio recalled the content of that White Luminance Level team mission. Coincidentally, it was the new version of former host Bai Kui’s previous mission right after the reset.
“Abandoned Knight’s Castle”
Location: Fal County, Rika City, ten kilometers to the east.
Time: Within twenty days.
Information: The Knight’s Castle was occupied by Strain of dark creatures with aberrant bodies which included numerous White Luminance Level entities. A mixed seven-member squad was defeated there half a month ago. It was recommended that new Hunter squads be fully comprised of White Luminance Level hunters.
Reward: Twenty units of Holy Springs Water
In the room, Casio recalled the scenes of Bai Kui encountering these dark creatures. They weren’t particularly powerful, nor did they possess any unusually eerie abilities — just extraordinary physical strength. Casio was confident presently that, even with his strength not yet recovered, he could easily settle them.
By completing the Dark Hunt Organization’s mission, Casio could earn not only Holy Springs Water but also Vibrational Life Energy. In a short while, his physical body should be able to recover enough to harness Qi. When he’s able to use Qi, his strength would recover even faster. It wouldn’t take long to regain his full strength.
In the blink of an eye, noon arrived.
Equipped, Rose appeared in the central square of the Dark Hunt Organization. Contrarily, Casio, barehanded and unprepared.
The two did not waste time and proceeded directly to Fal County by horse carriage. Florence was near Fal County.
The distance between was just short of sixty kilometers.
If the carriage was on a main road, it would only take several hours.
In the harsh noontime sun, the dark horse carriage sped along a spacious dirt road through the woods, heading for the distance.
Around five in the afternoon, approaching dusk.
Casio and Rose had arrived at the eastern suburbs of Rika City. There used to be a small village here, but it was gradually abandoned when dark creature sightings became prevalent a year ago.
Reddish sunset clouds were reflecting on half of Casio’s face. He tilted his head upwards, gazing at the ruined castle halfway up the slope. His eyes reflected a blazing red hue.
In the real world, Casio needed to form his own forces and collect intelligence to locate dark creatures to hunt and devour.
In the Era of Retrospection, the Dark Hunt Association he had joined was an official Supernatural Force led by the Empire mainly targeting dark creatures. There was an abundance of available intelligence on that class of creatures.
It seemed that in the period ahead, he would have plenty to kill.
Next to him, Rose looked at the dim evening sky and the setting sun, then turned to Casio and said, “Master Bai Kui, the sun is setting, and in half an hour, it will be completely dark. Illusion art may not execute well when the light is inadequate. Shall we find a place to stay overnight, or should we make do in the abandoned village…”
Illusionists had such limitations. Their main approach was to cast illusions that confused their enemies’ visual perceptions. This was the most direct approach. Other senses like hearing and smell were far less affected.
Once it grew dark, and vision was impeded, enemies would struggle to see the Illusionist’s form, and their illusions would fail to direct the opponent’s cognition, let alone cause them harm.
That’s why Rose suggested they resume tomorrow.
But Casio didn’t want to waste time. He cast illusions directly using Qi.
