Chapter 521 - 521 288 Devils Book (4000)_2
Chapter 521: 288 Devil’s Book (4000)_2 Chapter 521: 288 Devil’s Book (4000)_2 Edwin’s tone grew increasingly stern as he continued.
“The action records and event analysis of this special action group will be documented in the A-level secret archives. It’s highly confidential.”
“A-level!”
Charlie’s pupils shrank. He had been the leader of the special action group for ten years, and most of the supernatural events he dealt with were “E” level. He only had three encounters with “D” level events. There were only two dangerous “C” levels events ever recorded in the supernatural archives of Kula City, without any “B” events.
And now, he was handling an “A” level case. Charlie felt a lump in his throat, somewhat unnerved by the unexpected pressure.
He drew a deep breath of cool air and nodded heavily, “Sir, I will remind each member of the Action Group repeatedly. The Action Archives will be written and handed in by them on the scene…”
“Well, once you are done with the records here, go ahead to the heavily destroyed Circular Plaza for further records. The Tulip Antiques Exhibition Hall and the dozen or so buildings on both sides were all affected…”
“It should be fast, I just went there. Hmm, they’ve all been levelled to the ground, be careful not to trip over the ruins.”
“You guys have worked hard.”
Edward patted Charlie’s shoulder lightly.
“No…” Charlie was about to speak, when suddenly a shrill scream echoed from the darkness of the alleyway, followed by a dull thud.
From the shadows as thick as ink, a bulky man with black hair in tight shorts stepped out. He was dragging a silhouette by his right hand like a dead dog. It was a woman, judging by the long, yielding hair and the graceful figure. Her shoe tip dragged on the ground without making a sound.
She seemed as lifeless as a corpse.
“Who’s there!”
Charlie blurted out anxiously, his right hand quickly reaching for his waist. But Edwin seized his hand mid-way.
“Mr. Feng Liusi, are there other forces spying on us? Please let us know if you need any assistance.”
His tone was sincere, and he appeared to be lowering his posture. However, Edwin’s grip on Charlie’s wrist was so tight that his knuckles turned white from the strain.
“There’s no need, they’re just some ants with too much curiosity. Just focus on your duties, I must go.”
The short-haired man responded indifferently.
He dragged the woman away, silently disappearing into the darkness.
Only half a minute after Feng Liusi had left did Edwin, drenched in sweat, finally breathe out a sigh of relief and let go of Charlie’s wrist. He turned to glance at Charlie who seemed somewhat bewildered.
“That Mr. Feng Liusi is a VIP of the mechanism. Sir Amos from the Black Mechanism who we met this afternoon also maintains a respectful attitude in front of him,” Edward wiped his forehead with a handkerchief, “I came here a step ahead of you. Two hours ago, I saw Mr. Feng Liusi catch a spy. The spy resisted fiercely, knocking down two or three enclosure walls in a row.”
“Mr. Feng Liusi grew impatient, I saw him with my own eyes, gently pressing his finger against the person’s forehead like this…” Edwin mimicked the motion, his eyes wide with fear.
“And then…”
Charlie swallowed hard, pressing the spot on his forehead that had just been touched.
“And then, the man split apart, shattered into pieces. It started with the skin, spreading like a spider’s web. The flesh fell off in chunks as if it had been stewed until tender and the internal organs couldn’t hold without the muscles and gushed out with a swoosh. Finally, all that was left was a silver human skeleton. It makes me want to…”
Edwin pulled a face as if he was about to vomit.
Charlie hastily touched his cheek as if he expected his skin to drop off all of a sudden.
His eyes reflected a lingering sense of fear.
Edwin, looking at Charlie’s shocked expression, inexplicably felt at ease, almost cheerful. Disgusting things had to be shared, or else they would continue to churn inside your heart.
Whether this nausea would spread to Charlie was not Edward’s concern. After sharing the story, he felt much better anyway.
Stashing the sweat-soaked handkerchief back into his pocket, Edward turned to leave. But as if suddenly remembering something, he turned back around.
“Oh, by the way. You shouldn’t venture into the back hall of the Tulip Antiques Exhibition for now. Mr. Amos and his associates are resting there.”
“Oh, understood.” Charlie nodded a little confusedly.
Elsewhere, in the back hall of the Antique Exhibition, the lights were significantly bright.
In the center of the living room laid two corpses — one in pieces and the other resembling a puddle of mud. Each one was shrouded in sheets of plastic similar to a death shroud.
Off in the distance, on a brown leather sofa, a blond figure sat. He took a sip of hot tea before placing it back onto the coffee table.
In the numerous hours of the afternoon, Casio had primarily done three things: examine the two bodies, discuss with the Yunquan Fist about the information related to the ancient relics of the Tulip Antiques Exhibition, and simply interrogate the fairly cooperative Black Peacock.
The first matter dealt with the bodies of Garoro and Lian. Naturally, little needed to be said about Lian whose resonance body had been completely drained. Garoro, a core member of the Organization, possessed a Shard of the World Door. Casio tried to operate a sense of induction, but was unable to exert any effective influence.
The second matter was as it sounded. Casio and the others found that most of the antiques came from an elderly collector in Ming Mountain City. After his death, his grandson entrusted a portion of the antique collection to the Antiques Exhibition for auction.
The third matter concerned the information revealed by the Black Peacock.
Due to certain reasons, the Black Peacock refrained from mentioning some aspects, refusing to speak about them or disclose the reasons.
But in other respects, he responded to all queries.
Among them was the purpose of the Organization’s trip this time: the Devil’s Book from myth and legend, the book known to bring misfortune and curse to people. Recorded within it are evil forbidden techniques, maps of ancient relics.
It also had the capability to refine and transform fresh blood, enabling the manifestation of information within the blood. It could extract a part of the original owner’s personality, fragments of memory, desires, skills, secret techniques, and even combat experience, and infuse this blood into any human body.
The side effect, however, was to bear the unfortunate curse of bad luck.
It’s important to note that this seemingly tempting ability was meant for lower-level Transcendent Beings. At the level of fighters like Casio and the others, the cluttered secret techniques would indeed be a fatal weakness. What they pursued was a pure and single-minded Qi. If they were to ingest the refined blood, it would contaminate their own Qi.
The losses would outweigh the gains.
Only a monster like Dead Blood would have no concerns about it.
The Devil’s Book’s ability was particularly suitable for rapidly training a batch of minions with combat abilities, rather than assisting the cultivation of strong beings.
Upon hearing this identical effect, one could tell.
The so-called Devil’s Book of the Organization was in fact the Cupan Magic Box that the Blood Spirit Association wanted to acquire. The indestructible Magic Box contained the Devil’s Book, the actual functional item.
Casio inquired about how to open the Cupan Magic Box from the Black Peacock.
But the Black Peacock feigned ignorance; he was not lying. The only person who knew how to open the Magic Box was the leader of the Organization. The Black Peacock and his ilk were only tasked with acquiring the Cupan Magic Box, not with opening it.
This left Casio somewhat disappointed.
Upon hearing the Black Peacock’s details about the Devil’s Book, his interest in the contents of the book was even higher than the ability to draw fresh blood. There must be some important information recorded in it, related to the Dark Age he vaguely sensed through various indirect information several times in his retrospection.
On the sofa, as Casio pondered and fiddled with the palm-sized Cupan Magic Box in his hand, he suddenly felt some unevenness where his fingers touched and immediately stopped moving.
He gently flipped the Magic Box over.
Under the sunlight, the surface of the box was still smooth.
But when Casio changed his viewing angle, he discovered a faint purple pattern gradually appearing at the center of the bottom of the box.
It could only be seen when light was shining at it from a specific angle.
Casio’s gaze swept over the details, causing him to furrow his brows gradually.
“Hmm? Why does it look a little like a Wisdom Rune?”
