Chapter 280: Shadow Demon 180 is insensible to pain (4100)_1 Chapter 280: Shadow Demon 180 is insensible to pain (4100)_1 The exact same aura, the exact same taste.
Casio was one hundred percent certain that Obsession Antique was present in the man called Yun. During their intense fight, his attention was focused on the battle and he failed to notice the bitterness.
Now that things had quieted down, the taste was becoming more apparent.
Casio gave Yun an oblique glance, focusing primarily on the pockets of his outer coat. Eventually, his gaze fixed on Yun’s neck. There hung a jade figurine strung on a red thread. It was entirely green, yet seemed to be faintly glowing.
Yun noticed Casio’s gaze. He casually lifted the pendant that hung around his neck, an oval-shaped jade. Barely engraved, only the center sported a vortex-like pattern. It was about a quarter the size of a human palm, warm in color and embedded within was a faint green hue.
“I feel I need to explain. When I was hiding just now, I wasn’t planning to ambush or anything. Half a minute ago, my Misfortune Jade reacted and I followed out of curiosity,” Yun stated earnestly.
“Misfortune Jade?” Casio asked tentatively.
“Oh, as I said before, I’m an explorer. I found this jade in Laien County, Aruk Ancient Country ruins in the northern part of the Hong Li Federation. It’s a kind of gemstone with magical powers that can sense misfortune in its vicinity,” Yun explained as he continued to watch Casio.
Despite no apparent changes in Casio’s expression, this was to be expected. Yun knew that Casio was not ordinary and definitely possessed some supernatural powers after their earlier skirmish.
“Are you referring to this misfortune?”
Casio started to walk to the side, the sharp aura he was emanating began to dwindle. The two rapidly left the alleyway.
On the ground, the Red Eye Level Shadow Demon was shakily trying to get up. Suddenly, a large foot stepped on its back.
With a thud, it was once again forced onto the ground by immense force.
“Oh? A new kind of evil spirit I’ve never seen before.” Yun’s voice was slightly surprised. Clearly, this self-proclaimed adventurer had seen something similar before.
“If it’s an evil spirit, then it makes sense. The Misfortune Jade is very sensitive to these things,” he murmured to himself.
“Evil spirits? Is that what you call them?” Casio turned his head and asked, “I call these things creatures of darkness…”
“If I’m not mistaken, creatures of darkness and evil spirits should be the same,” Yun shared the knowledge he had, hoping to show Casio his goodwill. “About ten years ago, I unintentionally became a treasure hunter. People who are passionate about exploring ancient ruins and treasures around the world. We can be considered the adventurers of adventurers. We wander in desolate wildernesses, dangerous jungles, mysterious seas, and parched deserts. We always encounter inexplicable phenomena or strange creatures that have never been discovered…”
“Among these, the most dangerous are what we call evil spirits…”
“Anything with an aggressive nature, or possessing powers beyond the human realm, are all considered evil spirits,” Yun said as if recalling the past. “For instance, five years ago, I met a group of extremely ugly black fairies in the dense forest of the southern Alton Duchy. They actively hunted the heads of humans or animals, and used them to build their nests. The brains became the food for these black fairies and their young…”
“Black Elves!”
Upon hearing the description, Casio immediately connected the dots. He remembered the first time he had taken on an extra task during the Era of Retrospection at Black Rain Villa, where one of the tasks was to capture a black elf.
This was the same creature Yun referred to as a fairy.
“May I take a closer look at this thing?” After Casio digested the information, Yun pointed at the Shadow Demon with curiosity.
“Of course.” Casio had other thoughts in mind and warned, “But be careful, actually, never mind…”
Crack, crack, crack, crack, four consecutive sounds.
They were the crisp sounds of bones breaking.
The Shadow Demon’s red eyes went wide.
Its limbs were severed in an instant, the once sturdy and sharp claws hung limply, as if they had lost all their strength in a blink of an eye.
Casio didn’t care. Despite the Shadow Demon’s recuperative abilities not being as remarkable as those of the Blood Clan, it could still recover impressively. These privations were just minor inconveniences.
Even more so, creatures of darkness had a unique mechanism akin to human adrenaline. The sensation of pain would be significantly reduced when injured, proving that they seldom felt pain.
“Argh!!!”
The Shadow Demon, that was nearly reduced to a stick figure, bellowed out.
Its body twisted like a fish out of water, sweat pouring out non-stop, soaking its clothes. Its features distorted as it gasped for breath.
“Uh… Mr. Casio, you might have been a little too harsh. This evil spirit seems to be on the verge of fainting,” Yun said, hesitating before reminding him.
“Mr. Yun, you should never show mercy to these creatures of darkness. They’re cunning! I know them all too well. These beings possess a bloodlust effect that helps them block out pain. Even if I severed all five of their limbs, they wouldn’t feel any pain. Right now, it’s just putting on an act to gain sympathy,” Casio stated firmly.
