Chapter 249: 167 Rain has stopped(4400)_2 Chapter 249: 167 Rain has stopped(4400)_2 But the change Casio was expecting did not occur.
He cast his eyes towards the ruins of the church, and Mian also gazed in that direction. Casio moved closer to the fire step by step, making a splash as his black boots hit the ground.
The shattered rocks made the streets rough and uneven.
Crack.
His foot stepped on a triangular tile, Casio stopped moving. He did not get close to the church ruins, but kept a distance of at least several meters. Therefore, if any accidents happened suddenly, he could evade danger by reacting quickly.
Phew…
The smell of the flames burning under the special gasoline was unpleasant, and the hot waves mixed with the cold black rain. The sensation on his face was both cold and hot, making one want to blink.
The airflow blew past his ears, and between the howls of the wind, other sounds seemed to be mixed in. It was as if someone of unknown gender was whispering, telling a story.
In a trance, a flash of white light passed before Casio’s eyes. The surroundings brightened suddenly, as if he were transported to another world. There was no incessant black rain, no oppressive dark clouds, only a vast expanse of deep purple sky.
The surroundings were filled with buildings topped with pointed and domed structures; they were in a style Casio had never seen before, and carried an air of unusual charm. Some of the buildings were extraordinarily twisted, like moulded putty, their construction spiraling upward. Other buildings looked like chewed-up cookies, with uneven surfaces, resembling a collage of houses.
Casio turned around somewhat dazed.
Before him stood a grey church with a towering spire. Above the church were three slender metal pillars in a triangle. Floating and humming inside the area encircled by these pillars was a chain-like black halo.
The chain’s surface seemed to bear a myriad of intricate, mysterious symbols.
Grandiose, majestic, and divine.
With the beautifully coloured stained-glass windows catching people’s eyes, a beam of light descended from the sky, covering the entire church within a huge halo.
Ding!
The distant tolling of a bell echoed from nowhere.
In his moment of epiphany, Casio seemed to see the religious mural on the church window come alive. Numerous beams of light descended from the gaps in the clouds, and the visuals of handsome winged human forms flickered in and out of sight. In the centre, a fiery figure was almost too dazzling to look at, but an inner longing compelled one to do so.
Casio’s gaze was irresistibly drawn upwards.
Then…
He realised his martial arts status bar in the upper right corner of his vision was gone!
If every person had something most important to them at their core, then naturally, it would be his cheating plugin for Casio.
And now, the plugin was missing!?
What happened?! Who’s responsible?!
A surge of uncontrollable rage instantly incinerated the sense of pilgrimage. Casio’s red eyes flared open.
Ding! The entire picture shattered like a broken mirror, each fragment reflecting a different scene.
Like waking from a dream, Casio found himself back in the rain-soaked world. Turning his head to look around, he saw he was now inside the Baptism Church. The flames previously engulfing the ruins had been extinguished, replaced by a layer of gray plasma.
The semi-circular grey plasma flowed like a bubble, isolating the interior from the exterior; he couldn’t see what was happening outside. Inside the plasma, a faint black smoke floated in the upper half of the space.
Casio could clearly see that in the smoke were more than a dozen figures dressed in black combat suits. At this moment, they all stood still, each one as rigid as a puppet.
All of them were trembling, their faces showing signs of struggle.
Blood flowed from the corners of their mouths, their faces were pale. Large patches of blisters covered their skin, reminiscent of severe sunburn.
Casio immediately looked at himself and also discovered blisters on his skin. What’s happening? Radiation! He instinctively scanned his surroundings and found that the church floor had long since been blown apart, revealing the rugged ground underneath. In some places where the soil was exposed, he could see the uneven traces of rocks.
Meteorite?
Casio’s eyes widened.
Although surprised, he knew this was not the time to ponder over these things. The ever-increasing sense of weakness and damage from within was telling Casio that he was continuously being hurt.
Be it the toxins in the air, the meteorite underground, or some mysterious force, what he needed most now was to solve his own predicament. Fortunately, Casio had broken free from the illusion.
He could analyze what he should do next.
Undoubtedly, this must have something to do with the surrounding pillars.
The first thing he did was to suppress the physical weakness, turn around, and slam his fist against the surface of the plasma, only causing a ripple.
Can’t get out…
Casio turned his head to look at the closest pillar. At the top of the grey-black slender pillar, two hands were holding up something, from which a wisp of mist was rising.
He quickly rushed towards it, surprisingly not faced with any impediment. However, the sense of weakness inside Casio was growing stronger. It seemed the closer he got to the pillar, the stronger the radiation was.
Tap tap tap…
A series of footsteps quickly approached the stone pillar.
A fierce glint flashed in Casio’s eyes. He prepared for the worst and landed a punch on the pillar, his fist slicing through the air with a whoosh.
With a smack it landed on the surface of the stone pillar.
The pillar was abruptly fractured, showing spider-web cracks and then exploded, scattering into small pieces across the floor.
“That’s all it takes?!”
