Chapter 23: Chapter 23: Little Boy
Zixin didn’t allow her to talk further and just gave her the list.
"Even the smallest information will do." said Zixin. The lady then took the paper and browsed through it quickly then gave Zixin his list.
"I only know something about the Black Tortoise, well, it’s a Battle Beast rumoured to have the Black Tortoise bloodline and it’s called the Black Shell Turtle, found in the depths of the Long River close to the Long River Empire. There’s also Snail Island where all kinds of snails exist there, it’s just outside the Sun Kingdom. That’s all I know." said the lady, clearly annoyed that an ordinary boy just threatened her.
If not for the threat Wan Shui was giving her, she would have long slapped Zixin to death.
"Thanks for the information, it really means a lot to me." said Zixin before he stood up and left with Wan Shui following him from behind.
"What a peculiar young man." said the lady softly as she also collected her guqin and flew away silently.
"Wan Shui, what do you think?"
"She’s at the peak of the Soul Transformation Realm, much stronger than me but if I were to risk my life, I would injure her enough for you to be able to easily deal with her." said Wan Shui confidently.
"Let’s go to the forest, there’s something I want to test out."
"Yes Master."
...
"Master, you came earlier than usual today, did something happen?" said a young girl who also wore a veil like her master.
"You’re right, something did happen. At the pavilion, I was visited by two Demonic Sect members. Disciple, now that the Demonic Sect has resurfaced, the waters are about to get muddy and it’s time for us to leave. Sparrow Kingdom is no longer safe."
"What, so soon?!"
"Better now than later. Although I can defeat that old man, it won’t come without a cost so it’s best we leave without engaging them. Also, my Tribulation is just around the corner and I can’t afford to be injured so we’re leaving! Quickly pack your things and let’s go."
"Disciple understands."
...
Early the next morning, Zixin had Wan Shui also left the Hong Manor and the Hong Patriarch sighed in relief.
’Just where were these bastards hiding, I searched everywhere for them!’ he thought.
In the sky, Wan Shui seemed to want to say something but held himself back. Zixin naturally saw his hesitation.
"What is it?"
"Master, we spent the whole night with you destroying some trees, was destroying trees from afar what you wanted to test out? Although there were thousands of trees, still..."
"You think what I was doing was a waste of time right but you’re wrong. Yesterday, I discovered something interesting, very interesting and don’t ask what you shouldn’t." replied Zixin with a sly smile.
"Understood."
...
After a few hours of flight, Zixin and Wan Shui came across a battle below them.
"Master, should we descend or continue flying?"
"Descend, obviously. Maybe one of these guys is someone on the sect’s kill list so it’s better to check first before continuing on our journey."
The centipede then descended before being kept in the beast pouch by Wan Shui. They didn’t descend directly on the battlefield because the targets might escape so they descended some distance away then walked towards the battlefield.
There were corpses along the way that Wan Shui gladly collected and fed to the centipede. Very quickly, they reached the battle between what seemed to be bandits and merchants.
"Tiger! Are you deliberately making things difficult for us? We already paid the toll fee so what seems to be the problem, you’ve been chasing us for so long!" said the fat man with expensive robes.
"What if I am, what if I’m not, who cares. Leave the carriages behind and I’ll stop chasing you, what do you think?"
"Absolutely not! These are materials that we’re tasked with delivering to the Red Rose Sect, do you dare to take them!" said the fat man and threw a token with a rose design to the bandit leader. The bandit leader picked it up and checked the token carefully.
"Fine, let’s forget about the carriages..." said Tiger.
"It’s good that you understand..."
"I haven’t finished speaking. You can keep the carriages but I want that boy, leave him here and we’ll stop chasing you. How does that sound?" said Tiger. The fat man’s expression turned pale with fright as Tiger looked at him with a knowing look.
"How... How did you find out?!" asked the fat man.
"That’s not important, just give me the boy and we’ll part ways here."
"Guards, stall them!" shouted the fat man and another gruesome battle ensued. Corpses littered the ground until only a few people from both sides remained. Now, both sides were at a standoff until a third party intervened.
"Wow, you guys are really good at acting. The boy is obviously very important to both of you yet you act like he isn’t. Let’s do this, give the boy to me and keep your lives, refuse and die and I still get the boy. Which one will it be?"
Just from his attire, the two groups could tell that Zixin wasn’t a good person, no one from the Demonic Sect was a good person but it was also a known fact that Demonic Cultivators never go back on their word.
"This boy is related to the Red Rose Sect right, I’m actually on my way to the Red Rose Sect so give him to me." said Zixin.
"No!" refused the fat man.
"Well, the boy isn’t that important to me anyway but this is. If any of you has information about the beasts on this list, I’ll let them go, if not, I’m taking your heads. Have a look." said Zixin while throwing the paper between the two groups but no one picked it up.
"I don’t have all day!" said Zixin in a slightly cold voice.
One of the bandits then picked up the paper, checked the list and passed it to the next person, then another and another until it reached Tiger who then passed it to the merchants and they did the same thing.
"Even the smallest clue is very valuable so think carefully."
