I Became The Academy Necromancer
Chapter 330: A Precious Person

Who was the most self-conscious on this battlefield?

If one had to pinpoint it, it would undoubtedly be the two individuals who had been dragged into this situation against their will.

Erica Bright, like Darius Verdi, the eldest son and head of the Verdi Household—had joined the battlefield to take on their responsibilities.

“I never imagined she’d be this strong.”

Darius muttered, clicking his tongue, while Erica swallowed hard in agreement.

They were well aware that Findenai was an exceptional warrior, but this was beyond the realm of a mere warrior.

A fight fueled by madness and obsession.

And yet, she remained steadfast, not retreating even a single step from the entrance.

The ice shards piling up on the ground steadily shrank the battlefield.

On the other hand, Findenai’s momentum only intensified as the battle prolonged.

And the absence of even a hint of a smile on her face underscored how serious she was.

The current master of the Heavenly Oath Sect of the Han Empire, Zhu Wurong; Mage Tribunal Judge Tyren; Royal Knight Commander Gloria; and even dark mage Coltman.

Although all of these aforementioned figures were prominent, they were struggling against a woman named Findenai, and the battle was far from easy.

Was it really possible for a single maid to hold an army at bay?

Though she wasn’t entirely unscathed, the mere fact that a force of this caliber was struggling against just one person dealt a severe blow to morale.

And at that very moment—

“Everyone prepare!”

The iron-clad soldiers of the Duchy of Valestan, once wounded by Aria Rias, readied their shields and lances.

Standing in a line and preparing to hurl themselves forward, they seemed hell-bent on breaking through purely by weight and resolve.

Yet for some reason, their movements felt unnaturally mechanical.

Huheehe.”

It was because of Entomancer Barctos Nikolay, the creator of the Duchy of Valestan’s iron-clad soldiers.

The moment the elderly man with a spine curved like a boomerang tapped his staff on the ground, the iron-clad soldiers charged forward without a war cry or any hint of resolve, simply advancing toward their foes lifelessly.

That’s…

In that instant, Darius recalled having seen something similar in the past.

The covenous armament known as Protection, worn by Doberman and the extermination units who had crossed the Norseweden mountain range from the Clark Republic, immediately came to mind, causing his brow to furrow deeply.

“He’s still doing that?”

The bugs embedded in the armor controlled the soldiers’ minds, dulled their pain, and created troops who blindly obeyed without any emotion.

Their lack of fear of death wasn’t born from courage but enforced through unnatural means.

Huheehe.”

Darius tried to hold back by pretending not to see this, but the sound of Barctos’s laughter made him draw his sword.

“This won’t do.”

He resolved to kill the man right there and then.

With that thought in mind, he purposefully strode toward Barctos.

“Wait a moment.”

However, Erica hurriedly grabbed him by the shoulder, stopping him. Stabbing an ally here would only further complicate matters.

Moreover, if Darius, Deus Verdi’s older brother, were to act rashly, he would undoubtedly be branded as a traitor.

“Sister-in-law, can you truly tolerate this?”

Sister-in-law.

For a brief moment, Erica’s cheeks flushed red, but her experience as a professor allowed her to quickly regain her composure.

“Of course not. But you know as well as I do that we can’t afford to act like that right now.”

“…”

“I must go and kill Deus before anyone else can. Because that’s exactly what he wanted from me.”

She didn’t know the reason. However, she knew that he wouldn’t have asked her to do that just to take his own life.

He must have some kind of plan.

And to follow through with it, she needed to reach Deus before anyone else on this battlefield could.

“But…”

Darius glanced at Findenai. Having already overwhelmed Royal Knight Commander Gloria, Findenai was now swinging Snow White at the heavily iron-clad soldiers charging at her.

A massive wave of cold surged from Findenai’s fingertips.

It was a strike of formidable power, but Findenai was no longer in the same condition as before.

Her breathing was heavy, and blood streaming down her forehead, perhaps from a wound, obscured her vision.

Her maid uniform, which was already quite revealing, was partially torn as well.

It may have seemed absurd for them to be struggling against a single person, but as Findenai’s injuries continued to pile up, her eventual fall was inevitable—she was still human, after all.

“It’s Deus Verdi!”

All of a sudden, someone urgently pointed to the sky and shouted.

Everyone’s gaze followed the outstretched finger to the rooftop of the academy’s main building.

Wearing his usual attire— a black coat and a staff in hand, Deus Verdi gazed down at those who had come for him with a stern expression.

[Screeeech!]

[Fight! Fight! Fight!]

[Block themmmmmm!]

And finally, the spirits roaming the battlefield without causing harm began to retaliate.

They moved among the people, shrieking and cursing like true evil spirits.

Willful blue flames rained down from the sky as the spirits’ screams affected the minds of the living.

Keup!”

“D-Dark Mage, hurry up, do something!”

“What’s the Jerman Kingdom doing?!”

Wails echoed from all over the battlefield. The dark mages from the Jerman Kingdom attempted to respond, but…

“Our magic… is not working…”

The strongest dark mage of the Allied Forces, Coltman, murmured, even forgetting his shame.

How many times had this happened?

He had been questioning his abilities ever since he had arrived in the Griffin Kingdom.

The necromancy used by dark mages to control or purge spirits was completely ineffective.

The spirits floating above the academy did not show the slightest hint of wavering, as if they were subjects under the absolute monarch.

Was it loyalty? Or could it be called oppression?

Even the dark mages were unable to distinguish between the two.

“Now’s the time.”

However, Erica Bright did not interpret Deus Verdi’s appearance as a sign of being cornered.

Instead, his appearance signaled that he wanted to reveal his location.

Erica was convinced.

Deus was waiting for her.

Thus, as if possessed by something, she ran forward.

“Wait, hold on!”

Darius also ran after her in haste.

Blocking her path was Findenai. Upon noticing Erica, she raised her halberd and charged at her.

“Master Bastard said this—ensure you have room to escape even while fighting fiercely.”

Spears of light materialized around Erica. Seeing how the spears of light encircling her were all elemental spirits, she wielded her power much like necromancers manipulate magic through spirits.

The spears moved about chaotically, forming a barrier around Erica for protection.

“And when you arrive, open the path for you.”

Boom!

Only after layering dozens of spears made of elemental spirits together was she able to block Findenai’s powerful strike.

However, when the overlapping layers dissipated, only a single, fragile spear remained.

The shattered spears fell to the ground as debris, dissolving into streams of light.

While this would have normally marked the end of Findenai’s assault, she intentionally took another step forward.

“But I refuse.”

Whooosh!

A cold wave swept over once again.

Glaring sharply at Findenai despite the freezing chill, Erica hastily raised both hands to shield herself.

Findenai continued swinging Snow White without hesitation.

“I’ve always wanted to fight you at least once, Erica Bright.”

Swoosh! Swoosh! Swoosh!

Standing between her and Erica, the elemental spirits were moving desperately to block Findenai, holding on as best they could.

However, they were barely holding on. And if they relaxed for even a moment, Findenai’s halberd would tear Erica apart.

Keugh!”

The difference in power was stark.

Erica was not a warrior suited for the frontlines but a mage specialized in delivering firepower from the rear.

A direct confrontation was far beyond her capability, but Findenai didn’t discriminate on the battlefield.

“I heard your match was arranged by your family, yet you keep clinging onto him stubbornly. Because of you, we’ve been through quite a lot!”

“…!”

“Just break off the engagement, live with the other man your family has arranged for you, and stop leaving behind unnecessary regrets.”

Erica couldn’t ignore the sincerity in Findenai’s advice. Despite pretending otherwise, it was clear that Findenai harbored a deep obsession for Deus.

Erica also knew that while Findenai appeared indifferent to other women in the vicinity of Deus, her eyes were always silently following them.

Even so…

“That’s nonsense…!”

Erica was just as frustrated.

Did she even know for whose sake she was enduring all the suffering at this moment?

Starting from the crisis caused by the evil spirits at the Academy, even though her method was harsh, it was clear that she truly loved Deus. In an attempt to protect him, she chased him away as if cutting off a part of herself.

Later, she was even willing to allow him to leave if he ever found true love.

She deliberately maintained their engagement, fully prepared to let him go when he found someone he could truly give his heart to.

It would hurt a lot, but that was the extent of Erica’s resolve.

And so, this request Deus asked of her was unbearably cruel.

She had to become his adversary once more.

She had to fight him one more time.

Even knowing that this was what he wanted, it was still painful.

However, she had no choice.

Because in the end, Erica Bright loved Deus Verdi.

“You… don’t realize how blessed your position is, Findenai.”

Thus, Findenai’s words were more than enough to stir Erica’s composure.

Her golden hair fluttered.

And it wasn’t because of the cold wave emanating from Findenai. Being an authority in light magic, golden mana radiated from Erica’s entire body as she clenched her teeth tightly, struggling to suppress her anger.

“I’m envious of you, always able to stand by his side as an ally.”

If only she could be in that position, too, she would have even given up her family, status, and fame.

She was ready to abandon everything and run to him.

Even if she had to face countless armies, she would have stood with her back to Deus Verdi, shielding him.

That alone would have been enough.

“I truly envy you, Findenai.”

The golden mana gradually took the form of an enormous spear, stretching upward with an imposing presence as if it could pierce the heavens.

“I too…”

Reaching for the sky, the spear finally struck the rooftop of the Academy. Giving Findenai one last glance before heading upward, Erica leaped onto it.

“I wish I too could have been someone precious to him.”

Erica ascended, rising higher.

While it seemed to be an offensive spell at first, it instead served as a platform for her to ascend, leaving Findenai momentarily flustered before rushing toward her in haste.

“Wait, wait!”

Swinging his sword to block her path, Darius intercepted Findenai.

Tch!”

Findenai could have taken Darius down immediately, but controlling her strength was essential.

After all, he was the eldest son of the Verdi Household and Deus’ older brother. The risk of accidentally killing him prevented Findenai from wielding Snow White recklessly.

And so, in the end, Erica advanced alone toward Deus Verdi before everyone’s eyes.

None of the spirits obstructed her path. In fact, after making it past Findenai, reaching him became almost too effortless.

It’s probably because it’s me.

Because Deus had called for Erica, she was able to make her way to him without much trouble.

A fierce wind blew.

As she finally reached high enough and raised her head slowly, her gaze met Deus Verdi’s, who stood on the rooftop railing, looking down at her.

His expression was emotionless, his gaze cold and detached.

The man she had loved…

Hm?”

Erica froze for a moment as she looked at Deus. Unsure if her eyes were deceiving her, she rubbed them and looked again.

“You…”

Her voice trembled as she spoke to him.

“Who are you?”

The man standing before her was not Deus Verdi.

Heh.”

Unable to keep up with the act any longer, the man let out a bitter chuckle from within Deus’ body.
