Chapter 30: Chapter 30: Let Me Help You Calm Down

"If you really work as an embroidery woman here, I’d be so happy!" Zhang Baoli said with a smile, her eyes lingering on Beisitian.

Such a skill would be wasted if not used as an embroidery woman. Is there a more attractive embroidery workshop than their Bao Niang Embroidery Workshop in all of Qingzhou Town? So her words also carried a hint of invitation.

Beisitian smiled without saying a word. She knew she couldn’t be an embroidery woman; this was just a way to earn some money in the preliminary stages.

Her business skills were average, as proven in her past life, but she had many abilities that could completely sustain her needs.

Seeing that Beisitian didn’t pick up the conversation, Zhang Baoli was unsure of her intentions and didn’t bring up the matter again.

Beisitian left Bao Niang Embroidery Workshop, noticed she had some time to spare, and decided to wander around.

Beisitian considered herself not unfamiliar with the world, having seen the prosperous Jin city in her past life. Qingzhou Town, apart from its relatively modern transportation tools and everyday items, didn’t feel very special to her.

Naturally, she couldn’t sense the ’bustling big town’ that Kao Village residents spoke of!

After casually wandering around Qingzhou Town, she was ready to return. It wasn’t that she didn’t want to explore more, but there was too much dust on the streets.

On the roads, agricultural tractors and three-wheelers were still the most common, with few cars. The rumbling noise would stir up clouds of dust.

By comparison, she thought Kao Village was cleaner; at least there wasn’t dust everywhere!

Beisitian bought two meat buns for each family member, and also bought thirty cents’ worth of steamed buns. Because she bought a lot, the shop gave her an extra one, totaling thirteen white bread buns. Considering the Luo Family’s appetite, they should last a few days. The weather was getting cooler, so two or three days wouldn’t spoil them.

Even if they went bad, people would just scrape off the mold on the skin and still eat them; that’s how every household was.

Beisitian put the buns in a military green shoulder bag, wrapped the steamed buns in a bundle to carry on her back, and prepared to head back.

The journey was long, and she couldn’t carry too much by herself, so she only bought some white bread buns, a novelty for the villagers, and the Luo Family was no exception.

On the other side of the street, Zhang Lianqiao and Lian Qiao Niang were walking along.

"Even though this girl is to be married off, she still needs to be taken out to see the world. She can’t always stay cooped up in that mountain nook!"

Lian Qiao Niang, whose name was Li Fengzhi, swaggered with her plump body, educating Zhang Lianqiao as they walked. She often brought Zhang Lianqiao to town, letting her see how people in the big town lived, rather than having a vision full of the village!

Zhang Lianqiao obediently followed along, thinking herself different from other girls. Li Fengzhi didn’t just say it; she actually took her out, unlike those girls in Kao Village who never ventured out, only going as far as the market. She felt she could beat them by miles!

Each time Zhang Lianqiao thought of this, she couldn’t help feeling pleased, and hearing Li Fengzhi’s words, she momentarily froze.

"Mom, do you think that’s the young widow?" Zhang Lianqiao pointed at Beisitian’s back.

Li Fengzhi looked in the direction her finger pointed, saw a back, and shook her head, "Looks like it, but it can’t be. That young widow wouldn’t come to town; even at the market, that wicked woman would be afraid of being tricked away. Impossible, impossible, let’s go."

She pulled Zhang Lianqi and walked to another street.

Zhang Lianqiao kept looking back as she walked, increasingly convinced it was Beisitian. She frowned. If it really was Beisitian, was she just buying buns?

Zhang Lianqiao shook her head. How could Luo Er’s family afford to eat white bread buns? Her family didn’t even eat them often.

But she couldn’t shake the feeling; the more she looked, the more she thought it was Beisitian!

Her mind was whirling with thoughts of how to inquire once she got back. Suddenly she had a good idea!

Today, Beisitian, having walked a bit farther, didn’t return the usual way but took a new route, which was slightly more roundabout.

There was a pharmacy by the street. As she approached, she stopped, looking inside. There were several shelves filled with bottles and jars, and just standing at the door, her nose was filled with a peculiar smell.

Beisitian knew this was Western medicine. In the village, Yang Wulang studied Western medicine, and although not deeply, he could handle injections and infusions.

Beisitian was quite curious about Western medicine: how did they cure diseases using those medical solutions without herbal combinations?

She wanted to know the formula of those solutions.

Having come this far, Beisitian felt it would be a regret not to go in and take a look, so she stepped inside.

Once inside, the strange smell was stronger, and looking around, everything was mostly white.

"What medicine do you want to buy?" The shop assistant glanced at her and asked casually.

"I’m just looking." Beisitian replied.

The shop assistant nodded, keeping a reasonable distance from her. After all, caution was necessary; if something was taken, her efforts of the past few days would be in vain!

"How much is this bottle?" Beisitian asked, pointing at a dark brown glass bottle on the shelf.

The shop assistant rolled her eyes internally. Really, a bumpkin; who’s going to sell you a whole bottle!

"How many pills do you need? I’ll pack them for you." The shop assistant said expressionlessly.

Seeing the shop assistant’s disdainful look, Beisitian suddenly remembered that Yang Wulang seemed to do the same, giving a two-day supply wrapped in square-cut straw paper.

Beisitian realized she had made a fool of herself, gave a bitter smile. She was just curious about the prices. As for buying, she’d rather go to Yang Wulang; it was cheaper!

After circling twice, Beisitian had seen all the medicine on the shelves, but since they were all sealed in bottles, she couldn’t smell or taste them, so of course, she didn’t know the ingredients.

The shop assistant, seeing her circling twice without buying, was already impatient, "Are you going to buy or not?"

Seeing the shop assistant’s rude attitude, Beisitian promptly replied, "No, I’m not buying."

Hearing this, the shop assistant frowned tightly, "Why are you here if you’re not buying? Who has time to waste with you wandering around aimlessly!"

"Who said you must buy something when you enter?" Beisitian replied calmly, "And I never asked you to accompany me."

The shop assistant was left speechless by her retort, her face reddening with anger, placing her hands on her hips, "You think I want to accompany you? Who knows if you might steal a bottle? Do you know how much one bottle costs?"

Saying this, she glanced up and down at Beisitian, with a look of ’you can’t afford it’.

Beisitian paused, turned to look at her, "Do you always speak so casually? Throwing accusations without basis?"

Her tone was light, but there was a hint of coldness in her eyes.

The shop assistant laughed in anger, "Accusations? Look at your clothes, with so many patches. One bottle of medicine could buy you several sets of clothes, and you can’t even afford one set, yet you want to buy medicine?"

Beisitian looked at the scornful shop assistant, the corners of her mouth slightly raised, a faint smile on her face.

"Your nature is so impetuous, let me help you calm down:."

With that, she turned and walked towards the outside, saying as she walked, "I’ll come back to Qingzhou Town in half a month. If you regret it by then, come find me at Bao Niang Embroidery Workshop."
