I Became a Kindergarten Teacher for Monster Babies! -
Chapter 87 Planting
Chapter 87: Chapter 87 Planting
As Alina sipped the last of her drink, still holding onto the warmth in her palms, she looked up at Gabriel with a curious smile.
"By the way... you’re so early today?" she asked, raising an eyebrow playfully.
Gabriel chuckled softly, brushing a strand of golden hair behind his ear. "Yeah. Do you remember the suggestion you made in the office? About giving the kids a hands-on planting activity?"
Alina blinked. "Oh! Yeah — the gardening idea."
"I’m trying to execute it," he said with a small, proud smile. "We brought in little flower plants for all the babies to take care of. And guess what? They loved the idea. It’s been approved by the board... and by the kids." He gave her a soft look. "Would you like to meet them? They’re already outside."
Alina’s eyes lit up. "Meet more babies? Gabriel, I would never say no to cuteness."
He laughed, flashing her a genuinely pretty smile that made her heartbeat flip just a little.
"Elder Elona helped me gather them together in the garden," he said as they started walking side by side down the hallway. "She’s using her wind magic to clean the leaves while they dig around."
"Elder Elona?" Alina said, amused. "The one who floats while cleaning?"
"The one and only," he smiled.
They stepped out into the back garden of the academy, and Alina’s footsteps slowed.
Her eyes widened, and her jaw nearly dropped.
Many babies around five or six years old were scattered across the garden in small groups. The whole space looked like a magical dream. Tiny watering cans floated through the air. Sparkles of magic danced across the flower beds. A soft breeze carried petals past their feet.
And the children... oh, the children.
And then... she saw him.
A small boy standing near the garden hose, with a leafy green plant sprouting straight from the top of his head. The plant had three little flowers blooming and swaying gently in the breeze.
Alina rubbed her eyes. Once. Twice. Wait— what?!
She muttered, shocked. "That’s... that’s a plant. Growing. On his head."
The boy sneezed, and one of the flowers shook gently like it was waving.
"Woah..." Alina whispered under her breath, stunned.
And another baby beside him Also had a whole plant sprouting from his head — round and chubby, with little leaves swaying in wind. He wiped his nose with the back of his hand and giggled as the flower on his head bloomed a little.
"Gabriel," Alina whispered, "is that real?"
"Yes," he said calmly. "That’s Cappi. He’s half-cactus."
"...Half cactus?!"
"Mhm. Watch out when you hug him."
Alina burst into giggles, holding her chest.
Another child had long pointy elf ears and was gently humming to a flower, and the flower responded by blooming wider. A pale little vampire boy sat under a shade umbrella, sipping something red through a curly straw, looking unbothered and fabulous.
One tiny girl with butterfly wings was flitting from flower to flower, her feet never touching the ground. Two others had animal ears — one like a rabbit, the other like a sleepy fox and they were gently patting soil into flowerpots together.
Gabriel stood beside her, his arms loosely crossed, a peaceful expression on his face.
"I told you," he said softly. "They’re special."
Alina’s heart swelled so full she had to bite her lip to keep from tearing up. "They’re adorable. This is like watching a magical painting move."
She turned to him and laughed gently. "You know, now I’m jealous. Your class is like a fantasy storybook. I mean, I have a ghost, a wolf pup, a baby vampire... but you’ve got a garden on someone’s head, Gabriel!"
Gabriel chuckled, looking proud. "They all bloom differently, Miss Alina."
She smiled at that — wide, warm, full of awe and whispered, "Can I stay for a while?"
"Of course," he said. "They’d love that."
Gabriel walked beside her, his voice gentle as he motioned toward the tiny group of babies.
"Everyone," he said warmly, "this is Miss Alina. She’s the new teacher of Class D — and she’s the one who gave me the idea for today’s garden planting."
The children turned toward her, eyes wide and curious. A few waved shyly, others stared in awe. A pair of butterfly-winged twins whispered something to each other and giggled.
Alina crouched down a little and gave them her warmest smile. "Hello, sweethearts," she said. "You’re all doing such a good job with your plants. They’re so lucky to have you."
That’s when she heard a tiny gasp.
Capi — the chubby baby with a green sprout on his head and tiny prickles on his arms — looked up at her like he had just seen the queen of the flower kingdom.
His round cheeks flushed pink, and his eyes sparkled like they were full of stars. "T-Teacher," he stammered, his voice soft and dramatic, "you look... so beautiful!"
Alina blinked in surprise, touched by the pure love in his voice.
Then he clutched his chest with both tiny hands. "Can I... can I hug you?" he asked, eyes big and watery like he’d cry if she said no.
Next to her, Gabriel sighed quietly and muttered under his breath, "Not again."
Alina giggled. "Of course, sweetheart."
Capi ran toward her with small, bouncy steps. When he reached her, he didn’t jump like most kids. He carefully leaned in, his tiny cactus arms wrapping gently around her waist, careful not to press his thorns too hard against her.
"I’ll be gentle," he whispered, as if promising not to break a flower.
Alina’s heart melted. She crouched and hugged him back, stroking his spiky little head with care.
"Thank you, Teacher," Capi whispered in her arms. "I heard planting was your idea... that made us really happy. It made me really happy."
Just then, another small boy with leaves sprouting from behind his ears ran forward excitedly.
"Me too!" he said, throwing his arms around her. "It’s the best day ever!"
His hug was tighter, his soft cheeks squishing against her shoulder and he smelled exactly like fresh morning flowers. Sweet, gentle, like jasmine and a hint of mint.
