Chapter 70 Homework
Chapter 70: Chapter 70 Homework
Alina smiled, tapping the board lightly with her chalk. "One..." she said.
"ONE!" they chimed together... some loud, some whispering. Boo added a dramatic echo: "Oneeeee!"
She giggled softly. "Two..."
"TWOOOO!" Drake yelled, and Boo mimicked his tone, making Drake swat at him. Luna growled under her breath, then mumbled "Two" too.
"Three..." Alina said, watching each mouth move.
"THREEEE!" Kelpie squeaked shyly, his little cheeks puffed out, while Sable just mouthed it behind his notebook, his shadow flickering under his desk.
"Four..." Alina prompted, pointing.
"FOUR!" Rocky shouted, so proud he almost stood up on his chair, his big eyes glowing as if he’d just moved a mountain.
"Five!" she said, her eyes warm as she looked at Lucian. He stared back, and his lips shaped the word softly, "Five." It was barely a whisper, but Alina saw it, and her heart melted.
They continued all the way to ten, the tiny room echoing with squeaks, giggles, growls, and Boo’s dramatic ghostly echoes. By the end, they all looked so proud of themselves that Alina’s eyes shone with delight.
"Good job, everyone!" she praised, clapping her hands softly. "Teacher is so proud of you — you’re all so clever!"
Then she tucked a loose strand of hair behind her ear and looked at each precious face in front of her. Her heart squeezed as she saw their tiny, chubby fingers rubbing at tired eyes and scribbling little numbers so proudly.
They really are trying so hard, she thought. But her teacher brain poked at her heart — A bit of practice will help. And they need to learn discipline too...
So she cleared her throat softly, giving them her sweetest but most ’I’m still serious’ teacher smile. "Alright, my loves — now you all have a small homework for Teacher."
Tiny eyes widened — Boo froze mid-air.
"Tonight," Alina said gently, "I want you to write your numbers one to ten again in your own notebook. Just once. Neat and tidy — so tomorrow Teacher can see your beautiful work!"
The reaction was instant. Boo’s eyes popped so wide they almost fell out. "NOOO!" he wailed dramatically, flopping face-first onto his desk so hard his ghost tail stuck up like a flag. "Miss Clara used to give us homework EVERY day! It was so loooongggg! She was so mean!"
Drake’s tail drooped a bit as he clutched his notebook, mumbling, "I don’t like homework..." Luna crossed her arms, her little nose wrinkling like a grumpy puppy. Even Rocky’s shoulders drooped, his eyes flicking sadly to his half-finished numbers.
Lucian, on the other hand, just sat there spine straight, tiny horns catching the light. He blinked at Alina with calm red eyes, then lowered them back to his page like a tiny prince who didn’t mind at all.
Seeing Boo’s puffy pout, Alina couldn’t help but laugh softly, so they wouldn’t think she was making fun of them. She bent over Boo’s desk and tapped his little head with her finger. "Sweetheart, it’s only a little homework — not a big one like Miss Clara’s. Just ten numbers, you can do it so fast, you’ll have lots of time for playing and floating around!"
Boo peeked up at her through his ghostly bangs. "Really? Just ten?" His voice wobbled so dramatically that Vlad Jr. rolled his eyes, elegant as ever.
"Yes, sweetheart — just ten. Teacher promises," Alina said, giving them each her warmest smile. "And tomorrow, Teacher will bring a surprise for everyone who tries their best."
At that, little ears perked up. Drake’s tail wagged again. Luna huffed but looked a bit curious. Sable’s shadow flickered happily under his desk, and even Boo let out a tiny ghostly giggle.

The golden sun was low, painting warm light across the school’s quiet garden. Most of Class D had already been scooped up by sleek black cars or dark carriages, their little bags bouncing behind them. Alina stood with each child until they were safely tucked away.
But now, only Boo remained floating near the gate. He didn’t look worried at all about his late driver. Quite the opposite, he looked thrilled. His big eyes sparkled with mischief as he drifted closer, grinning so wide his tiny cheeks puffed out.
Alina sat down on the bench near the gate, stretching her tired legs with a soft sigh. She felt Boo’s presence before she saw him. She peeked up to see him hovering right in front of her face, upside down, his hair floating like cobwebs.
"Hehehe!" Boo giggled, covering his mouth with his tiny ghost hand. "Teacher, I’m going to tell you the best gossip today! So make sure your ears are ready!" He wiggled his fingers dramatically.
Alina laughed, her voice warm as sunlight. She crossed her legs on the bench, propping her chin on her palm. "My ears are always ready for Boo’s gossip," she teased, tapping his tiny ghost nose with her fingertip. "So, what did you hear, my little gossip king?"
Boo floated closer, still grinning so wide his ghost cheeks squished his eyes into tiny crescents. He wiggled his fingers again like he was sprinkling gossip dust all over her.
"Teacher, listen, listen — this one is real secret! Principal has a secret snack box in his big office drawer!" Boo whispered, his voice high and excited.
Alina tilted her head, fighting back her smile. "A snack box? For who?"
"For him!" Boo squeaked. "He keeps fancy candies and dark chocolates there! When no one’s looking — he eats them all alone. And, and —" Boo leaned so close his cold nose almost bumped hers. "He hides the wrappers under his big fancy chair so no one finds them! Hihihi!"
Alina gasped softly, covering her mouth with both hands. Principal Dante Nightshade, cold demon lord secretly munching candy behind his desk? The thought almost made her burst into giggles on the spot.
Boo floated upside down, his tiny ghost tail twirling. "Boo saw him once! He dropped a chocolate on the floor and he picked it up soooo fast, like scared baby wolf!" He giggled until his whole ghostly body wobbled.
