Chapter 60: Chapter 60 Meeting (2)

Dante gave him a tiny nod—the only respectful gesture Alina had seen all meeting as if the demon king himself knew this angel never wasted a word.

Gabriel returned the nod and spoke, his voice smooth and light, like a gentle hymn.

"Principal Nightshade," he began, "my class continues to do well in their studies. They’ve improved by twenty percent this term alone. Their control over basic magic and discipline is developing nicely."

Alina peeked at him over her notebook, her eyes wide. Twenty percent? She could practically hear Miss Kelly’s teeth grinding beside her.

Gabriel paused, the corner of his mouth lifting in the tiniest good-natured grin. "However..." he added lightly, "they do have moments of... mischief. A few illusions in the halls, some prank illusions in my wings — harmless, mostly."

Dante just raised an eyebrow, his expression giving nothing away but the room felt less cold somehow when Gabriel spoke.

"And how do you manage this?" Dante asked quietly, his pen tapping once against his file.

Gabriel’s warm golden eyes twinkled as he answered, "I tell them if they want to prank their teacher, they have to pass their next test first. So far, it’s worked quite well." He finished with a soft chuckle.

For a moment, even Dante’s eyes seemed... less severe. Or maybe it was just the soft glow of Gabriel’s calm aura making the shadows feel less heavy.

"Very well," Dante said, his tone crisp but not cold this time. "Continue as you are."

When Dante’s cold crimson gaze fell back on her, Alina’s shoulders jumped like she’d been caught daydreaming. His deep voice rumbled through the room, so calm yet so intense that it made even the office walls feel like they were leaning in to listen.

"Miss Alina," he said, his gloved fingertips drumming once on the table. "I would like to know... what do humans do in other kindergartens to help children learn? What do you do to give them the best education?"

Alina’s mouth opened then closed. For a moment she just blinked, her brain stuttering like an old car. Why me? Why now? She felt Professor Hobb’s beady glare, Miss Kelly’s icy eyes, and even gentle Gabriel’s soft, reassuring smile. Everyone waiting for the human to speak.

She sat up straighter, clutching her bag so tight her knuckles turned white. Then, finding her courage, she took a small breath. "Well... Sir... in human kindergartens, we do lots of activities to help children grow, um, happily."

Her voice started to warm as she spoke, her eyes flicking to Gabriel for encouragement. "We organize small planting days, they learn how to take care of something. We hold art days, sports days... sometimes small competitions, so they learn teamwork. We also invite parents for meetings so they know how their child is doing and how to help at home."

She paused, suddenly aware that the room had gone pin-drop silent even the shadows behind Dante seemed to be holding their breath. Alina’s cheeks flamed, and she added in a tiny, nervous squeak, "...And, um, annual functions. Like a little festival or performance. The children love showing what they’ve learned. It makes them proud."

For a heartbeat, no one moved. Miss Kelly’s face looked annoyed. Hobb’s brow twitched, and Gabriel gave her a tiny nod of Well done. But it was Dante’s unreadable eyes that made her chest tighten, the way he tilted his head, almost like he was studying a puzzle he hadn’t expected. .com

Finally, his mouth moved — the tiniest twitch at the corner. "Good ideas," Dante said, his voice like distant thunder but softer than before. "Very good."

Alina’s heart skipped. Good? He said good!

Then his gaze cut sharper again. "Do you have more ideas we can implement for our children?"

Alina almost squeaked again. She fiddled with the edge of her bag, eyes darting from his crimson stare to Gabriel’s gentle encouragement. "Uh... yes, Sir. We could... um... maybe have storytelling days where older students tell stories to the little ones? Or... talent shows? Maybe a ’thank you day’ where they show gratitude for each other. That helps them bond."

She stopped herself, biting her lip. Stop babbling, Alina!

But Dante simply nodded, that gloved hand tapping the table once more, almost like a silent stamp of approval. "Noted. We shall discuss the practicalities. You may submit a written plan by the end of next week."

Alina’s chest fluttered, half panic and half pride. "Y-yes, Sir."

"And what exactly happens in a parents’ meeting?" he asked. His tone wasn’t sharp, just curious in a way that felt even more serious. Alina could tell, deep down, that he really wanted to know.

They had opened this kindergarten by watching humans from afar, hoping to build peace among every race. But some things you couldn’t learn just by reading a book or peeking through a window.

Alina swallowed, feeling the weight of every pair of eyes in that room. Miss Kelly’s stiff shoulders, Hobb’s twitchy scowl, Gabriel’s calm little nod. She took a tiny breath and lifted her chin.

"Well... Sir..." she began carefully, her voice gentle. "In a human kindergarten, parents’ meetings are when the teacher talks with each child’s family. We share good things first like how the child learns letters, plays with others, listens to rules. If there’s any problem, we tell the parents too. So they can help at home." .com

She paused, the shadows in the room feeling less heavy as she spoke. Her thoughts wandered to Kelpie’s shy eyes, Sable’s tiny thank you, Drake’s laughter, Luna’s little growls. Her heart softened.

"It helps the child too," she said, her voice was warm. "When they see their parents come to class... when they see the adults care... they feel proud of themselves. They try harder. They feel important. They feel safe."

No one spoke. She wondered if she was rambling, if she should stop but the words kept flowing because they were true.

Dante’s crimson eyes stayed on her face, unblinking. Alina felt her cheeks warm under that stare. He seemed to weigh her words in his mind, like each one mattered more than the next. Then he gave the smallest nod.

"I see," he murmured, voice low. He glanced at the paper in front of him, then back at her. "Good."
