I am the Zombie King of the Apocalyptic World -
Chapter 728 - 724: Son of the Zombies_1
Chapter 728: Chapter 724: Son of the Zombies_1
The night sky was filled with scattered bullets and lasers, an spectacle akin to the flurry of fireworks on New Year’s Eve. Within the thrashing swarm of aircraft, an inconspicuous helicopter carried a soldier who lamented over the dwindling ammunition, waving his hand in resignation before slumping onto the deck.
"Forget it, we have barely any bullets left. We won’t be able to get those 200 Yajins. We already have been fighting for so long without taking them down. It’s better to save what we have left."
Once he said that, the pilot upfront relaxed his nerves as he sunk into hopelessness regarding the 200 Yajins.
"Let’s just keep up appearances."
"Do you think we can really do it?"
The pilot remained silent, bleakly steering the helicopter among the fleet.
"If others from the Supervising Army see us like this, we won’t be able to face them."
"Fine, as you wish."
Bored and unexcited, the soldier carelessly loaded a cannonball into the cannon and absentmindedly pulled the trigger!
Swoosh!
As the cannonball was ejected into the sky, the soldier slumped back down, gazing passively at the ongoing chaos. Yet after some seconds, his expression started to morph, even the pilot found himself sitting upright.
Despite tactical maneuvers, the quickly soaring Helicopter No.063 had accidentally collided with the cannonball shot by the soldier.
Dai Changhao and Little Wu, aboard the helicopter, along with the pilot, were jolted as the helicopter started swaying violently. Dai Changhao glanced sideways to see a blaze engulfing the helicopter tail, with its parts scattering and falling amidst a shower of sparks. His face turned grim.
"We got hit!"
Little Wu was startled, and the pilot went pale. He wanted to say something but was too winded.
The helicopter lost its balance and started to tilt forward. The pilot, panic-stricken, began desperately pulling at the altitude control lever. Initially, the helicopter slowly rose, but it soon spiraled out of control, plummeting towards the earth at a drastic velocity.
"We’re doomed!"
The pilot’s fear was palpable; his movements grew frantic, but the helicopter’s descent remained unstoppable. A noxious cloud of smoke gushed from the helicopter’s tail, its presence pushing their fears to a whole new level.
Meanwhile, aboard another helicopter, a soldier was beyond excited when he realized that he had hit the jackpot with his stray shot. The soldier grabbed the communicator, shouting with utter glee. "I struck them! I hit the target! Hahaha!"
His expression was filled with pure joy, he was close to tears, the pilot too trembled with excitement, "Don’t forget, I had a part in it!"
But the soldier didn’t respond. He just kept repeating like a broken record, "I hit them!"
"Land on the building!"
Aboard Helicopter No.063, Dai Changhao shouted, his face desperate.
"How am I supposed to land on a building? We would explode on impact!"
The pilot, no longer afraid of Dai Changhao, fiercely responded. It wasn’t the gun to his head he feared anymore; one wrong move and they would all be finished.
The helicopter fell swiftly, like a shooting star, while Dai Changhao’s jaw clenched tight. They had already strayed too far from Qinshan Base, and Hua City was crowded with zombies.
Given the circumstances, a peaceful landing on a building was impossible. The only choice left was to land on the streets, right into the arms of the waiting zombie horde.
As the pilot desperately reoriented the helicopter, reducing their descent speed, he said anxiously, "The gyroscope has been damaged and the directional control is malfunctioning. We’re becoming moving targets. We can only land on the street."
"Let’s hope there aren’t many zombies below us." Little Wu said, his voice trembling. But no sooner had he finished than the helicopter’s spotlight switched on. The brilliant white light illuminated the ground to reveal a horrifying sight - an enormous horde of zombies, their rotting heads cloaking the entire street.
The zombies were howling terrifyingly, dancing wildly with their eyes bloodthirsty and excited.
The trio’s faces went ashen in an instant. Dai Changhao had hoped that as evolved humans, he and Little Wu could fight off the zombies once they landed, thus sparing their lives, for now.
But the sight directly below stripped away all hope.
Meanwhile, as part of the swarm of aircraft chasing them, Lin Qiangguang, aboard one of the helicopters, kept a close eye on the quickly descending Helicopter No.063.
"Captain, they’ve been hit. Should we continue the pursuit?"
With a clenched jaw, Lin Qiangguang harshly ordered. "Observe the situation. If they survive, we land and capture them alive! I want them alive!"
"..." The soldiers of the United District looked surprised, but no one dared to speak.
How could Lin Qiangguang let the murderers of his son die quickly and easily? He wanted to torture them! To do so with unimaginable cruelty! His hatred couldn’t be quenched easily by merely killing them.
While all the attention was fixed on Helicopter No.063 hurtling into the zombie crowd, a man in a grotesque mask on top of a nearby building was also watching the scene unfold.
Click, click, click...
Another figure, a woman with a slender figure, approached from behind. Though it was too dark to make out her appearance.
She came up next to the man and watched the falling Helicopter No.063.
"There are people you know on board... Are you going to save them?"
The man glanced at her and nodded, but the woman didn’t continue the conversation and simply remarked, "If you try to save them, be warned, there are many of your kind back at the base."
"Nobody there deserves to live. The Elder might be right. To achieve peace, we shouldn’t worry about zombies. They are the most trustworthy creatures while we must be careful of... people!"
The woman laughed softly, her voice as clear as a bell. She seemed to be quite young.
"Perhaps you’re right. Good luck, then. I need to leave."
"Where are you going?"
"Lin City."
"Huh?"
The man expressed some confusion. "Isn’t Lin city in ruins now?"
"I’m going there to find someone."
The woman’s voice became emotionless, and then a Level 5 zombie crawled up to the rooftop. Surprisingly, it didn’t attack them. The woman hopped onto the zombie’s shoulders and let it carry her down to the ground.
