Chapter 707: Chapter 703: Mayor, Something Bad Has Happened_1
Perhaps they were too engrossed in their work, or the soundproofing was too good. At first, the people above didn’t pay much attention to the situation outside. Now, opening the window and looking out, the ground below had turned into a hell on earth!
Blood, as red as could be, adorned the yard surrounding the government building. There was a demon down there, frenziedly slaughtering everyone!
The painful wails and desperate screams turned the faces of those watching from above pale. In that instant, they felt as if they were back to the day four years ago when black rain fell from the sky. They could never forget that scene, the current one was exactly like it!
What they saw, besides the soldiers and survivors hurriedly fleeing, was an enormous figure moving!
Long bone spikes spread out. Their owner was like a demon, expanding its huge black wings, trying to engulf the world. Bear in mind, Qinshan Base was never much of a paradise to begin with.
The survivors working above had already seen many incidences of zombies slaughtering humans. Their ability to endure such sights greatly increased. So why were they still scared? The pallor on their faces could not hide the fear in their hearts!
What they were afraid of was not zombies, or even high-level zombies, but the place where the zombies appeared. Why would they appear here?
Qinshan Base was a refuge for humans. This thing should not appear here, it cannot appear here! The apocalypse is a nightmare, an ongoing nightmare within reality from which you can’t wake up!
The term "survivor base" sounds like it’s protecting humanity. But from another perspective, isn’t a base also a place for humans to dodge their nightmares?
The source of these nightmares is zombies, not because they are powerful, but because of their ability to absorb others! By this point in the apocalypse, survivors could withstand even the most terrifying scenes. However, for humans, first impressions are always unforgettable!
They could never forget the blood-red sky when the apocalypse arrived. The black rain remains their inescapable shadow. That day, many of them were looking down from the building. How similar is everything?
"This... zombie! Level 6 zombie!"
"Run! Let’s... run quickly! The zombie has appeared! It’s killed so many people, there’ll certainly be many infected! Ah!"
The staff in the building screamed in fear. A repressed atmosphere flooded everyone’s hearts. They were afraid that day would repeat itself!
Even though life wasn’t great in Qinshan Base, people didn’t want to return to a life where they had to hide in sewers like rats to survive!
As more survivors escaped outside, the chaos increased. It wasn’t long before the large number of soldiers patrolling outside the government building also learned of the situation.
Squads of soldiers gathered, starting to attack Ah Fu, but there were too many people. The survivors up in the government building, seeing the high-level zombie Ah Fu below, dared they continue hiding inside?
Simply hiding in the apocalypse solves nothing, it only brings more despair!
The panic here began to spread outside. The survivors in the administration area also learned of what happened, swiftly fleeing to sectors ABCD while recounting encounters with the high-level zombie near the government building to any survivors they ran into along the way.
The crowd’s panic was out of control, the commotion increasingly louder. Soon it reached a relatively secluded and secret room within the government building.
"For now, just keep an eye on things. When the zombie horde arrives, we don’t need to deal with it. Someone will help us. At that time, gather all our forces and sweep through the Peace Party!"
"We ignore the horde? And who’s this someone who will deal with them? Isn’t that risky?"
Hearing Su Sigui’s words, Li Songhua shuddered, feeling like he had gotten on a thief’s ship. Who would ignore the zombies when threatened by a horde, instead choosing to attack others?
Su Sigui was indeed ruthless, which even the devious Li Songhua had to admire.
But it’s undeniable that Su Sigui’s plot, though seemingly bizarre, always left the impression of being reliable, as if she had everything under control.
Aside from Yang Jiaoyong, the remaining three all held ulterior motives. However, among the three, He Jinzhan was the most puzzled. He had no choice, Su Sigui’s plan was too extreme. To kill Li Henian, she was willing to ignore the zombie horde. Yet this same person gave him a benefit without asking for anything?
Perhaps it was owing a favor to someone or just finding it strange, He Jinzhan replayed every word Su Sigui said since arriving in his head. After careful thought, he couldn’t figure out any ulterior motives Su Sigui might have aside from getting under his wing.
"We have to work together this time. Although we have a multi-family collaboration, Li Henian is a Level 6 New Human after all. Although Director Li said Tang Fu under him has defected to our side, he himself can’t guarantee Tang Fu’s true intentions."
"So, Li Henian and his Peace Party won’t be easily dealt with. I know you all have some discontent. However, if anyone dares backstab us on that day, I personally will send them to heaven!"
"We understand."
Su Sigui’s tone suddenly turned frosty, sending shivers down everyone’s spine. Only He Jinzhan laughed to himself. He knew, Su Sigui, by allocating all of the spoils of defeating the Peace Party to him, was certainly causing dissatisfaction among the others; hence her stern warning.
"By the way, Commissioner He, when we start the operation, you better send more people over. Divide them into two parts; one to resist the Peace Party’s main force, and the other to aim for Peace Party’s resource warehouse."
"I understand." He Jinzhan laughed, looking at Su Sigui tenderly, but she seemed not to notice and just flashed him a radiant smile. The smile silent, quiet and content.
However, her smile lasted only for a fraction of a second before disappearing. She started spinning her pen and lightly tapping it on the sofa, seeming to want to say something. But, just as she started speaking, she furrowed her brows and turned her head to look at the door. Her eyes emitted a light sharp as a sword, bypassing the severely twisted and deformed door, peering into the depths of the corridor.
Her unusual behavior attracted the attention of the others. He Jinzhan and co. followed her gaze, although they didn’t see anything.
"Mayor Su, what’s wrong?"
Su Sigui stopped twirling her pen, tilting her head slightly as if she was listening to something.
"What’s happening outside?" She asked, puzzled. The other leaders were also clueless.
"There’s a commotion outside; we don’t know what’s happened."
At that moment, a soldier wearing an exoskeleton combat suit from Bright Moon City rushed in. As soon as he entered he blurted out to Su Sigui, "Mayor, something terrible has happened!
