Chapter 698: Chapter 694 - No Matter What You Do, Xingnan Base is Mine_1

At this, all three of them changed color instantly, and Li Songhua stuttered, "What’s going on? Did she come to find me? How did she know I was here?"

Li Songhua was at his wit’s end. The next second, there was another loud bang on the H-steel door, through which the tip of a sword effortlessly pierced, invoking a cold chill in the room.

Clang!

The sword sliced upward before being pulled back by its owner. Following that, another incision appeared on the door with a swish.

"Mayor Su, you can’t enter."

Apparently, someone outside had witnessed the scene. A flurry of footsteps indicated that quite a few people, likely soldiers from the Qinshan Base, were trying to stop Su Sigui. Just as the trio inside were catching their breaths, consecutive screams of terror could be heard.

"Keep an eye out, don’t let anyone else approach."

"Yes, sir!"

Su Sigui spoke a few words to the soldiers of the Bright Moon City, followed by a deafening sound from the handful of soldiers.

Bang!

Su Sigui was relentless, one sword strike following another. Half a minute later, the hefty H-steel door flew in revealing the slender figure of Su Sigui.

"Su Sigui!" Li Songhua exclaimed in surprise, all thoughts of escape now abandoned.

"Li Songhua, why are you not welcoming your guest?" Su Sigui looked at Li Songhua with a smile that was not quite a smile. However, there was a barely perceptible twitch in her eyebrow when her gaze landed on the man surnamed Yang.

"I was preoccupied with some matters and not aware of your esteemed visit, my apologies. Ha ha ha, did you come looking for me? Is there something you need?" Li Songhua laughed out loud, his grin worse than tears, his effort to lighten the awkward atmosphere palpable.

"Of course, I’m here to help you with your current predicament."

Su Sigui wore a smile devoid of any emotion, and stared intently at the man surnamed Yang, sending chills down his spine.

"Yang Jiaoyong, long time no see."

"Yes, yes, it’s been a while..."

The man surnamed Yang, Yang Jiaoyong, laughed awkwardly, unsure of how his smile looked at that moment.

On hearing the implications in Su Sigui’s words, Li Songhua relaxed. As long as she wasn’t there to kill him, all could be negotiated. Upon second thought, he was overwhelmed with joy!

"Did she just say she’s here to help me with my current difficulty?" Li Songhua wondered, not quite understanding Su Sigui’s intentions.

"Take a seat."

Su Sigui made herself at home, scanning the room before her gaze settled on the man in the mask for a few seconds. She then went on to have a seat on the sofa.

The other three exchanged glances before proceeding to sit on the sofa across from Su Sigui. The man in the mask also abandoned his previous restlessness, dutifully taking a seat and continually sizing up the seemingly adolescent Su Sigui.

"Is she... truly a Level 6 New Human?" the man in the mask pondered relentlessly. He had always been skeptical about Level 6 New Humans. He found it hard to believe, until he met Su Sigui, reputed to be a Level 6 New Human, and sensed the vibrant vitality she emanated, which made him believe just a bit.

With belief came fear. Level 5 New Humans were sufficiently terrifying, let alone Level 6 New Humans who, so far, existed only conceptually.

"Mayor Su... When you said you came here to solve my difficulty, is... is that true?" The moment he sat on the sofa, Li Songhua was the first to speak, his tone uncertain.

Su Sigui did not answer his question directly. Instead, she stared at the uneasy Yang Jiaoyong with a peculiar gaze.

"Leader Yang, leaving your cozy Xingnan Base to come all the way here, be careful you don’t lose your base to someone else when you return."

"... Mayor Su, you need not worry about that. I have taken care of everything at the base before coming here."

"Really?" Su Sigui chuckled before her tone turned cold: "You think you can get away with killing so many of my people simply by bringing a few kittens and puppies?"

Her direct confrontation over the issue left even the fearful Yang Jiaoyong struggling to maintain his parade of smiles, turning his countenance particularly ghastly.

"Mayor Su, what are you talking about? I have never planned on running away."

"Really?"

Su Sigui let out a cold laugh, then turned her gaze to the man in the mask sitting on the small sofa beside her.

"Quite a mysterious guest."

Since he was wearing a mask, it was impossible to read the expression on the face of the man in the mask. However, the depth in Su Sigui’s eyes was indescribable. It felt as if she could see into the core of everything, and her gaze made him feel exposed, causing an involuntary stiffness in his body. Despite that, he maintained his impassive exterior.

Su Sigui’s gaze moved from beneath the patterned mask to the collar of his black jacket, observing the exposed part of his battle armor’s steel shell.

"From the United District, aren’t you? Let me guess, who brought you here? If my guess is right, this must be facilitated by our lovely Leader Yang here, right? But let me warn you, whatever your plans are, the Xingnan Base is mine. If you dare to extend your reach here, hmm... Even if you don’t, someone else will come after you soon. I just don’t know if it will be me."

"You..." The man in the mask jolted. Never before had anyone dared to speak to him in such a manner, not in the post-apocalyptic world, or even before the Apocalypse!

The eyes visible underneath the mask flashed an overwhelming murderous intent. He glared at Su Sigui, who stared back with an icy demeanor.

Their gazes locked, and the masked man unleashed a powerful aura of superiority that came from a long tenure in a high-ranking post, as it pressed onto Su Sigui.

Clearly, the man in the mask was no ordinary person. His rank within the United District wasn’t low either; otherwise, he wouldn’t have such a commanding aura. As for Su Sigui, although she appeared to be no older than twenty, he believed that in terms of experience, she could not compare to him.

His aura was incomparable to the likes of Li Songhua or Yang Jiaoyong—it was a sheer difference of chalk and cheese.

Initially, he thought his intimidating aura would scare her into a frenzy and provoke an attack on him. To his surprise, Su Sigui remained unperturbed, her killing intent soaring high, looking down on him as if she were a demoness that had crawled out from hell.

After a few seconds, the man in the mask leaned back against the sofa as if startled.

Another two or three seconds passed. Bafflement and disbelief showed in the man’s eyes. He had seen too much in Su Sigui’s gaze.

Mountains of corpses and seas of blood, countless battles, and the calm before a catastrophe like Mount Tai collapsing. The transcendence of a world in chaos and the terrifying killing aura cultivated from countless battles.

At that moment, the man in the mask fell silent, lowered his head, and dared not meet Su Sigui’s gaze again, his mind in utmost turmoil!
