Chapter 666: Chapter 664 Defending Wall_1

Having finished speaking, Tang Ye casually climbed into a car, a process made easier by his normal height of 1.7 meters when transformed, unlike Ah Fu whose smallest form was over three meters tall. The dimensions of Tang Ye’s humanoid form allowed him to enter cars as effortlessly as any regular human would.

Under Tang Ye’s command, the vehicles belonging to the Peace Party roared to life and began heading in the direction of Liang City’s Gujin Base.

At the same time, several futuristic helicopters — sleek and silver in colour, with no visible propellers and four turbine levitation devices attached to the bottom — were also headed towards Liang City’s Gujin Base. These advanced helicopters had surpassed the technological level of the pre-Apocalyptic era, drawing fuel from antimatter and ushering in an unprecedented technological revolution.

These aircraft bore no identification marking them as property of any specific base. However, crescent moon insignia on their bodies signified that they originated from Bright Moon City. Accompanying them were two immense transport planes which dwarfed the helicopters by nearly tenfold, serving as two colossal beasts soaring through the skies.

Within one of the helicopters, Xu Tianyu, gazing out of the window, abruptly noticed something horrifying below that caused his pupils to contract. Slapping the dozing Su Sigui next to him, he exclaimed in alarm: "Mayor, look at what’s down there!"

"What is it?"

Seemingly jolted awake, Su Sigui stretched her exquisite frame lazily. Following Xu Tianyu’s pointing finger, she peered below, her gaze freezing for a moment before muttering, "Is that a zombie nest?"

At that moment, they were flying over the city district of Liang City. However, everything below was obscured by an eerie black substance spread over an area spanning almost 5-6 square kilometers, forming an irregular circle. From their high vantage point, they could observe vein-like protrusions and patterns on the surface of this black material, its disgusting color and texture bearing a stark resemblance to the skin of a Scavenger.

Being aware of the existence of zombie nests since long ago, Su Sigui’s expression turned grave. She had previously shared this knowledge with her subordinates, including Xu Tianyu. However, there were only twenty seven identified nests throughout the whole of China, and being part of a mission to wipe out a zombie nest was an experience she had yet to encounter. In fact, her knowledge of zombie nests was restricted to what she had heard and seen in pictures.

Zombies didn’t reproduce or procreate like living beings. The fact that zombies hadn’t been eradicated by humans was due to the existence of these nests, dubbed "Mother Nests" as they could spawn zombies — at an alarmingly high rate, no less.

Though no zombies were presently visible on the surface of the black substance, countless more could be lurking underneath!

The Mother Nest’s black substance wasn’t confined to the ground; from Su Sigui’s perspective, it seemed to clamber up buildings, covering rooftops. Some taller buildings stood half-exposed, implying that a multitude of zombies were present beneath them!

"Mayor...", started Xu Tianyu, his face turning a shade paler. He had known about the function of a Zombie Mother Nest from Su Sigui and also knew that this nest had likely been formed shortly after Yindan Base had fallen. Over the course of such a long period, it was conceivable that the number of zombies in Liang City would be several times that of other cities.

If this was indeed the case, could Gujin Base withstand a zombie outbreak originating from here? Their reason for coming to Liang City was for Gujin Base.

Xu Tianyu’s voice quavered slightly. However, as soon as he finished speaking, Su Sigui dismissed him with a wave of her hand, saying calmly, "It’s no matter. Lihe is a long distance away from here and the Northern Zombie King’s body is too large for Lihe to accommodate, so probably only a few members of the royal zombie family will pass by. As for Level 4 and Level 5 zombies, their area of influence is still far from reaching here."

"Hmm."

With Su Sigui’s reassurances, Xu Tianyu’s expression relaxed and he refrained from further comment. The aircraft continued to advance and after covering about thirty kilometres more, they arrived in a remote area. Below them, a large number of survivors could be seen toiling with hoes, diligently digging into the ground.

"Aren’t these people afraid of death?", asked a Level 5 New Human, perplexed. It had become a rare occurrence to encounter survivors in the wilderness - those who weren’t starving usually did not venture out in search for food, especially ordinary humans, for fear of encountering a zombie that might injure them with their claws.

However, the frantic laboring of almost a thousand survivors in the suburbs was unprecedented. What’s surprising was that they were doing so within two kilometers of a massive horde of zombies!

"Look, they seem to be...clearing the land!"

"Right! They..."

The soldiers of Bright Moon City aboard the transport planes crammed their faces against the windows for a better look, their minds boggled. Meanwhile, the hardworking survivors on the ground paused their work to gather and point towards the planes above.

"Where did those strange planes come from? Haven’t seen them before."

"Could it be the Peace Party again?"

"I don’t think so... Look at that emblem, it seems to be related to ’Bright Moon’, didn’t get a clear look at the rest of it."

"..."

Squinting her eyes, Su Sigui scrutinized the survivors laboring below, feeling increasingly puzzled.

"Who are these people?"

"I don’t know... Mayor, look over there, it’s Gujin Base."

Xu Tianyu abruptly pointed towards a defense wall enclosing a base that was visible in the distance. Unlike most defenses constructed against zombies, this wall was elliptical, more than ten meters high, with part of its top bent inwards. It had no platforms, and the inward curve was polished to a mirror-like smoothness. Su Sigui immediately understood its purpose - such a defense wall was more capable of resisting zombie attacks. Zombie hordes couldn’t easily climb over it. Several watchtowers were positioned behind the wall, almost matching its height. They were situated very close to the wall, and in case of a zombie attack, pouring oil on the wall’s curved surface would make the zombies slip down.

Unless a zombie horde was immensely large, enabling the pile of zombies to match the height of the defense wall, only a small number of them could manage to get across. Moreover, almost 80% of the zombies would still be stuck outside.

Fortunately, Gujin Base was a small one, and the length of its defense wall was manageable. The only disadvantage was a blind spot at the wall’s corner that impeded vision of approaching zombies.

However, it was strange to see survivors now working to remove the inward bend of the defense wall by pounding it with hammers. They seemed to be modifying it into an ordinary defense wall.

"What are they doing...", wondered Su Sigui, her eyes gleaming mysteriously. The more she looked, the colder her eyes became as the defense wall the survivors were currently constructing appeared to be built to defend against humans rather than zombies.

But why would this be?
