"Fire..."

The commander’s voice was deep and full of vitality, but it halted mid-sentence. Zombies that were earlier driven away by the corpse-disrupting agent suddenly started roaring and stomping towards the troops in a frenzy.

The expression on the commander’s face changed rapidly, leaving him confused.

What was going on?

He was flustered, but his soldiers reacted quickly. Within a few seconds, they formed up into square arrays, launching attacks on the zombies converging from all directions. Bullets and lasers flew about wildly.

"Damn it!"

The commander’s expression changed again. Firing guns now was not the wisest move. The gunfire would attract even more zombies. Their current situation was not like when they first entered the city. Now, they were surrounded by zombies.

The commander climbed onto a zombie-removing vehicle and surveyed the scene from higher ground. He saw the streets filled with zombies’ heads, surging like a wild tide. Moreover, in some areas, he saw high-level zombies slowly advancing, their white eyes looked hungrily towards them.

The situation was dire and it happened suddenly. Even though the soldiers were well-equipped, the tide of zombies was unceasing. But how long could their ammunition last? It was limited, after all!

"Retreat! Retreat now!"

He shouted heart-wrenchingly, but the soldiers seemed like they couldn’t hear him at all and continued firing.

The deputy commander said anxiously, "We can’t retreat! The zombie-removing vehicles move slow and once we stop attacking, we’ll be swallowed by the zombies!"

A chill crept into the commander’s heart. He suddenly spotted a Level 5 zombie indulging in a killing spree among the crowd. A grim look crossed his eyes, and he shouted, "All new humans of Level 3 and above, be they bounty hunters, the mercenary group, or enlisted soldiers, must kill that Level 5 zombie! There will be a huge reward back at the base!"

At his command, plenty of New Humans armed themselves and advanced towards the Level 5 zombie.

However, the rear guard behind the vehicle convoy had already been massacred by this level 5 zombie. It was insane, and so were the New Humans who were craving for the Evolution Crystal in its brain.

But there was one unexpected person among them. Chen Zhou’an squinted his eyes apprehensively at the Level 5 zombie. Noticing his brother, Chen Zhouquan, rushing obliviously towards the zombie amongst the other New Humans, he quickly stepped forward and pulled him back.

"Don’t go there."

"What?"

Chen Zhouquan looked confused. Chen Zhou’an, with his thumb, pointed towards the direction of the commander, gesturing for Chen Zhouquan to look over.

The commander’s expression alternated between light and dark — it was clear that he was contemplating something. Such a facial expression indicated that he was making a decision, but it was unknown whether it was a good or bad one.

Chen Zhou’an dragged his brother towards the front of the convoy. Meanwhile, more and more high-level zombies emerged from the waves of undead. As the two brothers retreated, someone shot through the air right over their heads. When they turned back around, they saw a Level 2 New Human being caught by the Level 5 zombie. With a flex of its muscular undead arms, the man was ripped apart. Blood splattered everywhere.

Its sharp teeth crushed the corpse and quickly gulped it down. It charged towards the front of the convoy!

Its assault was like a raging storm, breaking through the soldiers’ formation in an instant and scattering them in disarray.

"No good! It’s coming!" A soldier cried out in dismay. Before he could finish his sentence, a zombie pounced on him, biting into his neck and showering the ground with blood.

The commander felt a twinge at the corner of his eye and displayed a ruthless determination.

If no decision was made, everyone would die. He didn’t want to die!

Suddenly, he noticed the Chen brothers and immediately commanded, "You two, hurry up and stop it!"

"And you."

He pointed at Fu Yangyang who was in the middle of reloading and instructed him to follow as well.

"Sir, what’s going on back there?"

A head poked out from the driver’s cabin of the zombie-removing vehicle and asked in confusion. However, when he saw the horrifying sight behind them, he was immediately taken aback.

"Don’t get distracted, forge ahead!"

The commander ordered and shouted the person back in. The zombie-removing vehicle immediately rushed forward with all its power, emitting a thunderous rumble.

"You two, why aren’t you going yet?"

Seeing the Chen brothers still not obeying his orders, the commander flew into a rage and swore at them loudly.

"Disobeying orders, there’ll be a punishment for you when we get back!"

The brothers completely ignored him and quickly ran towards the front.

"I’m afraid to die too!"

The commander was taken aback. He was about to shoot the two when a sudden explosion from behind interrupted him. Flame licked towards the sky and he turned around, shock written all over his face.

He saw the Level 5 zombie had lifted up a tank with one arm, forcefully smashing the gigantic piece of steel against the ground. The deafening sound of gunfire earlier had diverted his attention from the back, but when he looked back now, he saw that both tanks had already been smashed countless times by the zombie, which then ignited spectacularly!

The shockwave from the explosion scattered the surrounding zombies and soldiers, making them fall and vomit blood. Even more terrifyingly, it had blasted a path through the head of the zombie wave, creating an open path for the zombies behind it. The zombies surged forward even faster, creating a sea of undead!

When a tank exploded, fragments of its armour flew off. The commander quickly ducked to avoid a flying piece, his Level 4 New Human reactions saving him from danger. However, his aide beside him wasn’t as fortunate, losing half his body in that instant.

"Forget it!" He clenched his fist and glared resentfully at the two Chen brothers before issuing a new command.

"Prepare the T-Type Fire God Cannon!"

Upon hearing his command, the surviving soldiers looked at him in disbelief.

"Commander, this..."

Bang!

Someone tried to speak, but before they could finish, the commander shot them dead. The others lowered their heads in fear and kept silent.

The commander continued giving orders to adjust the Fire God Cannon’s trajectory towards the corner behind them. No one dared to question him because they could see the fear hidden deep within the commander’s icy gaze!

"Fire!"

The T-Type Fire God Cannon fired into the sky and then descended. The zombie-removing vehicle was already moving at its maximum speed, pushing through the numerous zombies. It was moving at just sixty yards per hour, which was even slower than a Level 1 Speed Type Zombie.

Boom!

The T-Type Fire God Cannon hit the ground, raising a flame on a zombie’s head which bloomed like flowers tied together!

Boom! Boom! Boom!

A series of flames engulfed the streets like a fiery snake, giving the surviving soldiers a respite.

"Is it dead?"

Someone asked hopefully, but it seemed like the gods were playing tricks on them. A massive figure, entirely engulfed in flames, leapt out from the burning sea of undead. It was indeed the Level 5 zombie.

"No good! It’s not dead!"

The few new humans exchanged glances, pulled out their zombie-slaying blades and charged towards the zombie.
