Chapter 640: Chapter 638 Arriving at Chenyang 169 Base_1
"These pair it is."
Tang Ye closed the book and instantly began manipulating the flesh and blood on Gong Xiao’s body. The muscles on her legs began to slowly twitch, revealing the gentle curves, and the rough areas were smoothed over by an invisible force.
Her thighs and calves formed a perfect ratio, a god-made creation! Her figure also began to feel voluptuous, balanced and splendid!
"It’s finished!"
Half an hour later, Tang Ye roared with satisfaction, then turned his gaze to Gong Xiao’s face. His laughter faded and was replaced with deep thoughtfulness.
The most challenging part had arrived - to give Gong Xiao Yinxiang’s face. This was different from the other parts. There, Tang Ye could refer to the instructions in the book, but Yinxiang’s face had to be shaped according to his own memory.
He steeled his resolve, closing his eyes. As he recalled Yinxiang’s face in his mind, he immersed himself completely. He then began manipulating Gong Xiao’s facial muscles into the remembered form of Yinxiang’s face.
...
Two weeks later, a lorry carrying a group of people entered Yunchuan City, only slowly down once it reached the isolation zone of Chenyang Base 169.
"Chenyang Base 169 is right ahead."
"Wow, so Chenyang Base 169 really does exist."
"Look at their faces, they don’t look like they’re starving."
"Is it really... paradise?"
From far, the members of the biker gang in the truck caught sight of the zombie-resistant walls of Chenyang Base 169 that stood thirty meters high. They watched in awe at the massive doors that were wide open.
"I heard that this place has retained much of the government structure from before the Apocalypse, even following pre-Apocalypse laws. I heard that crimes like murder are also punished."
"Mmm, look at the soldiers."
"I wonder if we can bring our guns in without having these military men seize them?"
"You’re overthinking, just you watch."
On the massive truck, countless heads dumbly watched the entrance of the zombie-resistant wall, like a group of peasants about to enter the city, curiosity shining in their eyes.
People at the entrance of Base 169 were bustling, cheerful and lively. There was not an inkling of post-apocalyptic tension, only the constant sound of the infection detector issuing its relentless beeps.
A host of people came and went, many of them armed with a variety of weapons - guns and knives - but no soldiers stopped them at the gate. Members of the biker gang who knew some of the base rules understood that these people were bounty hunters, a profession within the base, who made their living by completing missions to kill evolved zombies.
This also proved that Base 169 did not prohibit individuals from carrying firearms.
The truck hadn’t yet parked when a few soldiers at the gate guard began jogging their way. They wore guarded expressions, though remained friendly.
Thump, thump, thump!
A soldier knocked on the truck’s cab, and Chen Zhou’an poked his head out.
"You guys are refugees, right?" the soldier asked.
"Yes, yes," Chen Zhou’an nodded.
"Do you have firearms?"
"Yes, we found them all in Fengming City. The refuge in that city is already collapsed, look."
Chen Zhou’an presented a laser weapon to the soldier, a pleasing smile on his face as though offering a bribe.
However, the soldier merely glanced at it and distanced himself seeing that it was a laser weapon. He did no take it. Chen Zhou’an had indeed intended to curry some favor with the soldier, aware that any newcomer, be it a refugee or resident, going into a base must undergo registration and obtain an identification card.
The more complicated the registration process, the more it indicated that the base was well-ordered, and it gave a certain guarantee of safety to the residents. Conversely, if the registration process were simple, it would be indicative of disorder, suggesting a more precarious living situation for its residents. By the looks of it, residents of Base 169 were leading good lives. This wouldn’t be inaccurate, but it also suggested a more convoluted registration process.
However, Chen Zhou’an’s intentions were not merely to simplify the registration process, but also to clarify how they came to possess their weapons, so as not to arouse suspicion that they were the biker gang. After all, the biker gang had a notorious reputation, and they might not be accepted into the base, refugee or not.
The soldier was beyond reproach, pushing back Chen Zhou’an’s laser weapon. He retreated a few steps, his movements smooth and professional. He saluted Chen Zhou’an, saying, "Everyone, come down from the trunk. Those with guns, point them upwards and don’t aim at people. The liability is on you if anything happens."
The soldiers lined up, and Chen Zhou’an beckoned to the others, gathering all before the soldiers.
As the people trickled down, Tang Ye and Bai Xinran mixed with the crowd, ignored by the surrounding people, seemingly inconspicuous.
Before entering Yunchuan City, Tang Ye had told everyone not to address him as the leader, treating him as one of their own and hence, no one interacted with him.
Following the soldier’s orders, all 186 people formed five rows. One soldier at the entrance rushed over with a paper and pen, stopping in front of Chen Zhou’an, asking, "Are you all refugees?"
"Yes, we’re from Lin City... please, don’t misunderstand us. We heard that Chenyang Base in Yunchuan City is really good - the people here don’t go hungry, and there are laws protecting us. Who wouldn’t want to come to such a place during the Apocalypse? We traveled across what felt like a thousand miles to get here. We had a large group initially, but now only a few of us are left."
Chen Zhou’an played the part of a simple country bumpkin, while the others looked pitifully at the soldier.
The soldiers were taken aback, Lin city was in S Province, wasn’t it? That was over two thousand kilometers away. Arriving here seemed a bit far-fetched. However, Chen Zhou’an spoke with the accent of a local from Lin city, so the soldiers didn’t think much of it.
The soldier with the paper and pen shared a warm smile, patting Chen Zhou’an’s shoulder, saying, "Our base isn’t as good as you think. Hunger is a reality here, but it only comes to those unwilling to work. Good days come to those who are diligent, isn’t it? Diligent people don’t go hungry, only lazy people starve. However, rest assured, we won’t force you to do anything you are not capable of. We will arrange suitable jobs for you."
"Oh, I forgot to ask if you would like to register for permanent resident IDs?"
Affirmative nods came from the biker gang members. Exchange of work for food was a godsend in the post-apocalyptic world. They were itching to reside in Base 169!
"Alright, how many are there in your group?"
"186."
The soldier took notes briskly, then called another soldier with a paper and pen to record everyone’s names. After that, a device was taken out to test the level of mutation in each person.
"Ah, it’s so hot".
Suddenly, a person wrapped tightly in clothing took off her hat and scarf, throwing them onto a member of the biker gang. A whiff of Lancome perfume sent their senses reeling. One glance at her face and they couldn’t take their eyes off her.
The pedestrians and New Human Stronghouses behind her froze in their tracks as she revealed her face.
