I am the Zombie King of the Apocalyptic World
Chapter 593 - 590: The Ambition at the End of the Evolution Path_1

Chapter 593: Chapter 590: The Ambition at the End of the Evolution Path_1

The instant they caught sight of the illusion of the dreadful demon, the three of them went into a state of utter chaos, feeling as though they were living in a dream.

The apocalypse was upon them, and even the evolution of the flesh-eating undead could be accepted. No matter how grotesquely unusual the appearances and abilities evolved by the zombies, former humans and other creatures were, they could all still be explained by science.

But this sudden apparition of a spectral demon - didn’t that smack of outright fantasy?

This sight caused the three, who had been steadfast adherents to the worldview of "Trust in Science," to falter in their belief.

Chen Zhouquan let out a string of profanities on the spot while the other two froze in place. Chen Zhou’an stared at the figure of the demon, a curious glint in his eyes, his thoughts hidden from all.

"Is this what a Zombie King is like? If becoming a zombie endows one with these powers, I might consider..."

The power Chen Zhou’an wielded was not obtained from evolving by consuming Evolutionary Crystals and Crystal Cores, or natural evolution. He had gained his power through methods that could be considered inhuman, resulting in his aura emanating a strange vibe.

This was the consequence of his path to power. With the advent of the apocalypse, the path to evolution opened up as an alternative way of life, inciting ambition in those who managed to survive in the post-apocalyptic world.

No one knew what they would become at the end of the path of evolution.

Before the apocalypse, living a monotonous life following a set routine, witnessing tomorrow as nothing but a repeat of today’s deeds, the lives of people were tasteless and uneventful.

In that era, people studied science, with most things in the world explainable from the perspective of science. There was no such thing as superpowers or cultivators. Every time they watched a video about the universe, they felt insignificant in its vastness.

The universe is so vast, yet there’s not even a 30-square-meter space that belongs to me.

No one knows whether life has emerged on planets mentioned in those documentaries about the universe - planets like Kepler-22B, Kepler-186F, Gliese 581B. The distance from Earth to these planets is too great to comprehend, the massive gap, counting in hundreds, thousands, millions or even billions of light-years, is enough to make one feel despair.

Such distances could never be covered in a lifetime, even if one were born in a spaceship bound for those planets. Yet, it was this distance that only increased mankind’s desire to explore these potentially livable planets.

And in reality, reaching such planets required technological advancements. But how many years would it take for technology to reach that level? Would one have grown old or even not lived to see that day?

The saddest part is, faced with such an outcome, one could only passively live out their ordinary life until death.

The superheroes, cultivators, qi-fighting masters, void walkers, God Emperors, Ultramen; they all existed only in the imagination, depicted in web novels and books for entertainment, providing an escape from mundane life to those who indulged in fantasies.

But what if one day, there was a pathway that would allow you to reach the level of those God Emperors and Ultramen mentioned in web novels, to traverse through the void, and become immortal! To explore the planets you wanted to explore, to witness life on other planets besides Earth.

Wouldn’t that be exciting?

During the apocalypse, the path of evolution appeared. And for those who yearned to explore the universe and had already embarked on the path of evolution, this appeared as wild ambition in their hearts!

Tell me, who wouldn’t want to become a legendary immortal? Who wouldn’t wish for the power to command the elements and live forever? Who wouldn’t want to seek truth in this vast and boundless universe?

Now, this path lay before their very eyes. Those who tread this path to the end could enjoy lives of luxury, becoming heroes akin to those from novels, establishing their own harem. How enticing was that prospect?

However, no one knew what lay at the end of this path. No one had ever reached there or had the knowledge of it. It was something that had to be discovered through exploration. In the endeavor to reach the end sooner, people would resort to extremes, such as Chen Zhou’an did. Facing things beyond comprehension, he felt panic and expectation.

What he was hoping for, nobody knew.

Not too far away, the enormous form of the demon shadow seemed to preside over heaven and earth. Numerous black rays descended like rain, annihilating the zombies on the ground and the zombie birds in the sky.

The demon figure disseminated a black mist around it, from which large sword-like apparitions frequently emerged, slicing through the flock of zombie birds. The ground was littered with the corpses and tainted blood of the fallen zombies!

Its roar resounded across the entire battlefield. The harsh northern terrains of China provided a vantage point to the village occupied by the motorcycle gang Chen Zhou’an was leading. The appearance of the demon figure and its consequential roars caught the attention of the survivors in nearby towns and cities.

"Brother Gao, look, what’s that dark thing on the mountain?"

At the sound of this exclamation, Gao Shunan, who had been surveying their surroundings, slapped the speaker on the back of his head.

"Are you bloody mental? Crying wolf like that, if the zombies come I’ll throw you at them first."

Whether Gao Shunan was joking or serious, no one knew. After his declaration, he focused his attention on a nearby building, taking in its details.

"This building should be tall enough. I wonder what’s gotten into these zombies, to actually figure out where humans are hiding. Really strange. But a building this tall, zombies wouldn’t be able to climb up, right?"

His thick Beijing accent was evident as he spoke. Before he could finish, the young member who had spoken earlier interrupted again.

"No, Brother Gao, seriously look, there appears to be a demon..."

Before he could finish, Gao Shunan delivered a kick to his face that sent him flying five or six meters away.

"Do you have a death wish?"

Gao Shunan roared in frustration. However, he did take a look where his underling pointed. In the distance, on the side of a mountain, was a dark figure that looked like the shadow of a person without legs. Judging by the distance, the figure seemed to be several tens of kilometers away and was undoubtedly enormous!

Around it, a dark cloud seemed to loom.

"Bring me the telescope."

Gao Shunan squinted his eyes, stepping back towards the survivors who lay on the ground. He snatched a telescope and directed its lens towards the figure. And with one look, he nearly got the shock of his life.

"Bloody hell, has Cthulhu revived?"

The telescope wasn’t in proper focus, and Gao Shunan got a fright with the first look, not daring to peek again. Although the first glance wasn’t very clear, he got a general idea.

The dark figure resembled a typical villain from movies, its gigantic body obscuring the structures beneath it. Its body appeared to be in a gaseous state, other than the fluffy white hair and a pair of blood-red eyes on its black body, its colossal size struck dread into one’s heart.
