Chapter 530: Chapter 527: Is Immortality Not Good?_1
Perhaps Ah Fu could, but Tang Ye and Ah Fu were in a superior-subordinate relationship. Maybe all the silver-armored zombies he infected would gain immortality, but Tang Ye wasn’t certain he could stomach the feeling of standing above it all indefinitely.
There was always a certain freshness that people felt towards something at the beginning. However, with time, the novelty wore off and boredom set in, resulting in eventual detachment. Tang Ye was familiar with this very human tendency and hadn’t yet outgrown it.
Tang Ye should’ve been pleased with the concept of eternal life, but with the advanced logical reasoning capabilities he’d gained as a Level 6, he quickly processed past his initial excitement at immortality and started confronting the loneliness it promised.
Death didn’t scare Tang Ye, he only feared dying before fulfilling his goal. But once the goal was reached, death became a rather indifferent existence for him.
As Tang Ye was lost in his thoughts, the corpse of the bear stood up and roared, emitting the odor of a Level 5 zombie. Tang Ye shook off his daydreaming and turned to look.
"What is there to panic about? Isn’t immortality a good thing? That’s always better than dying!"
Tang Ye had no firsthand experience of the loneliness eternal life could bring, so he let out a snort of laughter and walked over to the huge bear.
"Not bad!"
He touched the sharp, steel-like fur of the silver-armored zombie bear and commented, while the Silver Armored Zombie Bear simply complied submissively. It had been completely transformed in the mutation, losing all its memories and becoming a mindless zombie driven by the need to kill.
Tang Ye’s hand moved upon the zombie bear’s back again and again. Just as he was lifting his hand to withdraw, a chunk of meat from the bear’s back came up with it.
"Huh?" Tang Ye paused, and replacing his hand, he moved it forward, causing the flesh to follow his action.
"Damn!"
His two hands moved wildly on the bear’s body, its skin and fur shifting around with his actions.
Tang Ye could sense that the anti-life matter in his body was moving with his thoughts. It was as if the bear was a part of his own body, controllable at his will.
"Holy shit, I can do this!"
He then realized why he could control the zombies that he infected - because the anti-life matter in their bodies was his own!
With Tang Ye’s actions, the zombified bear let out a strange roar after being reshaped.
An inspiration flashed across Tang Ye’s mind. He focused all his concentration, touching here and pinching there on the bear’s body till slowly a human shape began to form, followed by facial features then hands and feet.
After about ten minutes, another "Tang Ye" stood before him. Pleased, Tang Ye conjured a black robe by doing some manipulations in midair and loosely threw the robe onto the newly formed "Tang Ye".
"Perfect, let’s see you walk," Tang Ye instructed.
The fabricated "Tang Ye" took a step, but before its foot hit the ground, it fell flat on its face with a "thud" and let out a groan.
Because this "Tang Ye" was metamorphosed from a bear, it was clearly not accustomed to walking like a human and had stumbled.
Rolling his eyes, Tang Ye looked at the clone of himself and suddenly felt a cold chill.
Why did the clone he shaped seem so awkward?
Of course, it didn’t have an individual identity, it might be due to it being a different species in its previous life.
After consideration, Tang Ye planned to size the duplicate back to its original form, but after fumbling around for a while, he embarrassingly realized he couldn’t undo the effects of his manipulation!
Moreover, the clone didn’t have a memory system. It remained in the shape in which he had formed it, no matter what.
Finally, Tang Ye reshaped the bear into an unidentified creature and walked away.
...
"Ehm... You all came from the city?"
"Yes."
Facing the scribe soldier, Huang Quanjiu wore an impatient expression, echoed by the dozens of raggedly dressed survivors behind him.
"Hurry it up. I want to get this over with."
Huang Quanjiu waved his hand, releasing his aura nonchalantly. The sensor next to him erupted with data readings again!
[Report: Level 4 New Human Detected! Index 3695.2334.....]
The soldier took a sharp breath; his scribbling grew faster as he wrote down Huang Quanjiu’s name.
"Next."
He dared not look at Huang Quanjiu’s face. The highest level of New Human at Qinshan Base was a Level 3. He couldn’t risk offending a Level 4.
Of course, Li Henian’s group was not included in this comparison.
Those two were outliers, people not prone to such comparisons.
As the survivors behind Huang Quanjiu were registered one by one, it was only when the last man was left that the soldier dared to ask, "Hey, man, are you really from Hua City?"
The man didn’t respond. He just nodded and followed others into the Qinshan Base. The soldier assumed he was being questioned as he was the only ordinary person in the group.
The soldier’s gaze held a tinge of suspicion as he watched them. Though it was September and the weather was cooling down, the group, though raggedly dressed, looked properly insulated, suggesting they were layered under their worn clothes.
Some of them were sweating heavily due to the heat but hadn’t removed a single piece of clothing. They were still energetic.
They claimed to be survivors from Hua City, yet their accents seemed more like they were from Lin City.
But why were people from Lin City showing up here?
Upon stepping into the Qinshan Base, Huang Quanjiu and his group expected a thriving scene but were surprised to find that everything within was colored with grimness!
They saw countless soldiers armed with guns, moving between buildings, and driving out survivors. These survivors were led to the gates, and behind the gates was a square filled with survivors with vacant looks.
"What are they doing?"
Someone asked. Among Huang Quanjiu’s group, there were several ordinary people, who upon entering the base felt many incomprehensible stares directed at them. However, due to the presence of Huang Quanjiu, a Level 4 New Human, the soldiers merely glanced at them before looking away.
"Over here!"
A one-armed man at a distance waved. Huang Quanjiu quickly spotted him and led his group toward him.
"Are you Chen Chaoyang?"
"Yeah."
Chen Chaoyang was not wearing a mask. Now, whether he wore one or not made no difference. Nobody would recognize or pay attention to him.
Seeing him, Huang Quanjiu sucked in a breath. Chen Chaoyang now had short white hair, his mouth was torn on both sides reaching the roots of his ears, and the torn edges were stitched up. He looked eerie and creepy, just like a zombie!
However, if it was so, it would’ve still been alright. At least people knew what zombies were like, but this person who looked like a zombie yet wasn’t one – Chen Chaoyang – was just too unsettling!
