Chapter 1715: Chapter 1709 Basic Courtesy Among Peers
The sound of footsteps continued for a little while before stopping, and the person who arrived also noticed the two people on the stairs, looking a bit surprised.
"Mayor Su."
"Xu Haishui."
"Based on my understanding of you, you shouldn’t be here but rather..."
The person was indeed Xu Haishui, and as he spoke, he pointed towards the huge screen in the distance.
Su Sigui remained noncommittal, replying, "Compared to watching the commotion there, I have more important matters."
"Oh? Could it be that Mayor Su also sees this as a mere spectacle?"
"Sort of, but instead of watching the commotion, it’s better to prepare early."
"Is that so..."
Xu Haishui’s face was expressionless, and his words lacked any emotion. It was then that Su Sigui noticed he was carrying a large bag of items, which didn’t contain anything unusual, seemingly just some food.
"What are you doing...?"
"I’m doing charity."
"I don’t quite understand, but that’s your choice."
"If there’s nothing else, I’ll go on ahead."
"Please do." Su Sigui waved her hand, gesturing behind Chen Bieli, stepping aside to let him pass.
Xu Haishui, carrying the items, stepped down the stairs. As he passed by Chen Bieli, he gave him a deep look, and after reaching the ground, he stopped, suddenly turning back to Su Sigui and said, "Mayor Su, the future holds many challenges... Of course, please don’t misunderstand, I just hope... you won’t be the first to run away."
Su Sigui didn’t speak. After Tang Ye agreed to her request, everyone around her, whether they revered or hated her, was dragged into a troublesome situation. As for what kind of trouble, she couldn’t provide an answer yet, only in the future would she know. She hesitated to respond, but Xu Haishui didn’t wait for her answer and turned to leave on his own.
After his silhouette disappeared from their view, Chen Bieli looked at Su Sigui with a strange expression and mysteriously said, "Do you know what a zombie is?"
"Everyone knows what a zombie is, but if you suddenly ask someone like that, do you think they can answer?"
"You should know what I mean, right?"
"If I were to answer based on my understanding, it’s this: I’m familiar with zombies, but I don’t understand them. Can you grasp that?"
"Barely acceptable."
"And then?"
"Do you think that man just now was a zombie or a human?"
"A zombie." Su Sigui answered Chen Bieli’s question without even thinking.
"So you knew."
"I didn’t know, he looked no different from a normal person. But since you asked, there’s only one answer."
"...Alright, there’s a flaw in my question."
"It’s fine, if it weren’t for your reminder, I always thought he was a person."
"Quite surprising, I thought you’d done a lot of research on zombies."
"Let’s go."
Su Sigui opened the door and let Chen Bieli in. As they talked and laughed, anyone unaware might think they were a pair of sisters?
After Chen Bieli entered, Su Sigui didn’t enter immediately, but rather looked at the place where Xu Haishui had disappeared, her face contemplative.
Meanwhile, in the Dangerous Sanctuary City a thousand miles away, a probe between two Level 9 beings had just ended. As Tang Ye’s figure was manifested by the black mist, the distant blurry ’jelly’ began to wriggle violently but soon calmed down, its gaze from an indeterminate part of its body fixed on Tang Ye.
Tang Ye slightly opened his mouth, a wisp of black air floated out, and the flesh on his chest squirmed and cracked before healing, dense bone spurs stirring. He was fully immersed in battle mode, and accustomed to being a one-punch man, he found it a bit challenging to suddenly face an existence with not much difference in power level. It felt like a high-tier player suddenly found another high-tier player amidst low-ranked opponents, forcing him to take it seriously.
Yet, it was only slightly challenging. From the earlier probe, he found the opponent’s combat strength wasn’t very strong, quite conventional, without any highlights, even notably weaker than himself!
The bizarre part was, he couldn’t clearly see what this creature looked like. Initially, when he arrived here, he noticed traces of battle around and thought Su Sigui had come here and sparred with this Zombie King from Lan Ou Continent. But soon he realized that might not be the case; if Su Sigui had fought this guy, the destruction wouldn’t have been to this extent.
Just that initial probe expanded the level of destruction nearly tenfold! So, if Su Sigui really had participated, with the destruction only to this extent, it was easy for him to imagine the scene where both sides fought stealthily and cautiously.
Surely, no one would think a Zombie King would be environmentally conscious, right?
His eyes continuously fixed on the constantly shapeless ’jelly,’ the world before him dizzying, with occasional phantoms flashing by. He knew, the strange characteristics of the opponent were interfering with him, but since they were of the same level, the impact on him was minimal. However, if those Level 7 or 8 New Humans faced this ’jelly,’ he couldn’t imagine what their reaction would be.
This might explain why there’s no information about this guy on the network.
The black mist behind him surged like waves, layer upon layer. The surrounding purple spores burst and mutated, making this environment look as if it had a filter over it. Moving forward, both sides remained in a stand-off for about ten seconds when Tang Ye suddenly received a chaotic, heavily aggressive neural signal.
This signal was hard for him to translate directly, and he could only interpret it through the vague emotions from the other side—essentially suggesting that he and the other party shouldn’t have had this encounter. Simply put, the other side felt they shouldn’t be fighting.
Notably, the information didn’t convey any desire for communication from the other party, just a simple reminder—a basic courtesy between similar entities.
Tang Ye didn’t respond immediately because the opponent wasn’t like those Level 8 or 7 zombies or humans, but rather a terrifying Level 9 entity like himself! He couldn’t see what the opponent was doing in secret, just as the opponent couldn’t see what he was doing; he wouldn’t instantly rush to engage.
He simply stood there quietly, while frantically assimilating every assimilable material around him, focusing all his senses entirely on the opponent!
But compared to his silence, the opponent seemed to lack patience; the ’jelly’ began to wriggle madly, with various phantoms frequently flashing in Tang Ye’s view!
