Chapter 1690: Chapter 1684: The Girl Who Was Not Attacked by Zombies

"How can it be nothing? Anyway... I can’t die, haha." Brother Shi laughed a bit, and upon seeing this, the two were relieved. As long as he could talk, he wouldn’t die!

Before the two could settle him down, more zombie roars erupted from behind them. Ghost Head hurriedly pointed his gun at the walls around the door, spraying a wild burst of laser shots. The laser beams pierced through the previously solid concrete, quickly collapsing the walls above the door frame and blocking the entrance.

Bang!

Soon after, the sound of zombies smashing their heads against the walls came from outside. Wu Zhixiong carried Brother Shi on his back and signaled to Ghost Head to move up. Without delay, led by Wu Zhixiong, Ghost Head followed behind, shooting the stairs apart as they ascended to prevent the zombies that had broken through from catching up. The zombies outside relentlessly smashed into the collapsed walls one after another, quickly shattering much of the concrete. Soon, the entrance was cleared, and they roared inside. However, the broken stairs didn’t impede their progression. Using their Level 4 super jumping ability, the people above saw these damned creatures leap from the first floor directly to the second, then from the second to the third, going up floor by floor!

"Damn it!" Ghost Head couldn’t help but curse upon seeing this scene, but just then, the zombies below seemed frozen, suddenly stopping, which made his expression freeze before asking, "What’s going on?"

He turned to Wu Zhixiong, who looked equally baffled, then turned towards Yong, noticing his gaze fixed on the area surrounded by Level 8 zombies. They looked over and saw the purple spores clinging around the building begin to detach. They floated in the wind, assembling in mid-air, gradually forming a gigantic meat cocoon!

"What is... that?" Brother Shi asked blankly. He already suspected what it might be but hoped it wasn’t as he thought!

Ghost Head and Wu Zhixiong did not answer. Their expressions mirrored Brother Shi’s, as only Yong mumbled, "It, has come..."

"Who? Which ’he’?"

The three looked at Yong, seeking a clearer answer, but Yong didn’t continue, lowering his head, sinking back into thought.

The group grew anxious yet dared not pressure him, as Brother Shi scratched his head hard, saying, "Ma De! If fate is not meant to be, then so be it. We can’t dodge disaster if it’s due; let’s check the rooftop first."

"Let’s go."

"Hey, Yong! It’s time to move!"

They began heading upstairs while the zombies flooding the office building, seemingly engulfed by a mysterious will, started retreating one by one. Brother Shi and his group were unsurprised by this since, after those purple spores clung together to form the massive meat cocoon, they wouldn’t be surprised by anything that happened next.

Climbing up, several men glanced around, observing the zombie tide below being controlled by some presence, gathering while still maintaining their usual bloodlust. They noticed parachutes descending from the sky. Unfortunately, the soldier’s luck was bad; unable to grasp the building corner, he slid off from above, being torn into pieces by the zombies below like crocodiles in water before landing. His upper body flew amid the raging zombie tide, blood splattering, the scene gruesome and horrifying!

They couldn’t bear to watch, slightly averting their gaze.

"Hey, what do you think that thing inside is?"

"Likely a Zombie King..."

"If it really is that thing, we’re finished..."

"Seems possible; heard even one look at the Lan Ou Corpse King means death..."

"Isn’t it that terrifying?"

"Hah, among the six Zombie Kings on Earth, we only have no idea what the stupid Nightmare Zombie King looks like. What do you think?"

"Uh... I think you’re missing the key point."

"What key point?"

"Now Sanctuary City only has us soldiers left; the residents have evacuated, so why hasn’t the zombie tide left yet?"

"Isn’t the zombie tide supposed to be hunting people? Are they searching for something?"

"That obelisk..."

The three immediately recalled seeing those Level 8 zombies all gathered around the obelisk. Does this imply there’s something peculiar about the obelisk?

The three felt troubled, their experience limited, unable to think of any unique aspect about an obelisk, warranting so many zombies to gather here, creating such a rush!

Under the slaughter of the zombie tide, those who came through this area with mechas or helicopters, were lucky enough to leave safely or left their lives here. The zombie tide, constrained by the high-level zombies, couldn’t defy their will to seek distant prey, endlessly circling in place. Gradually, the surroundings grew quieter. Tens of thousands of zombies crammed Fragrant Spring Square, neither too big nor too small, transforming their starting roars into low growls, which in turn faded until only the sound of wind could be heard. Looking around, the Sanctuary City had already been submerged by a dark purple ocean! Exceptionally silent!

And this silence made the three feel the seriousness within the zombie tide, making them more hesitant to move rashly. Ghost Head discovered they had seemingly... missed the best time to leave?

If they had initially rushed towards the nearby building, they could’ve gotten closer to Headphone Building, but now, an intuition told them a single sound might incite the zombie tide to boil over!

The boundless zombie tide awaited its own ruler, meant to be solemn and sacred to them. In such an atmosphere, even a tiny sound would slander that ruler!

The three exchanged glances, puzzled by their sudden realization. Perhaps the brain waves between zombies within this area were so complex that they could vaguely feel the collective will of the zombie tide?

They stood at their previous position, fearing even taking one step because their footsteps would be too noticeable in such quiet. They could only communicate with their eyes by turning their heads. Both Brother Shi and Ghost Head frequently looked towards Yong, yet he stayed in a trance, head lowered, and Wu Zhixiong, perhaps influenced by them, also occasionally glanced Yong’s way.

But suddenly, as if seeing something, Brother Shi’s eyes widened. He pointed a finger at Wu Zhixiong’s waist, who quickly looked where he was gazing. As Yong didn’t respond to them, Ghost Head also turned his head back. This instant, they all saw the same sight, mouths agape, eyes widened, bewildered and chaotic.

They saw a young girl in an orange hoodie, unbelievably navigating through the zombie tide. And those zombies did not even look at her!
