Chapter 1174: Chapter 1169 Related to the Peace Party

Before long, the news that the zombie horde exceeded four million in size reached the ears of those at Cloud Gorge Base, sending shockwaves throughout the entire stronghold. The major figures from all aspects rushed towards the Eastern Anti-Zombie Wall, gazing at the distant black line composed of countless zombies; the atmosphere was tense to the extreme.

"Four million? You’re not joking with me?"

"Mm, it’s four million, I swear on my life! It’s a massive horde made up of the zombies from two cities."

On the Sky Continent, the current leaders of the four major families had already gathered in the east, looking on in silence. None of them spoke, but each person’s eyes were shrouded in an unshakeable gloom.

"Could the four million size of the horde be an overestimation by the scouting team?"

"It’s possible."

In front of the crowd, several middle-aged men in suits discussed amongst themselves, their faces devoid of expression.

After all, they were those who had survived from the beginning of the apocalypse; they had encountered such attacks by zombie hordes before, and the research teams below had studied the habits of zombies and the causes of the horde’s formation.

The formation of a zombie horde has only a few causes: first, when a zombie discovers that a particular area has living beings, it marks the location—a so-called ’hunting spot’ according to the researchers. It’s where the undead believe humans frequently appear, and when a hunting spot is established, the brainwaves emitted as they move towards it influence other zombies, vaguely signaling the existence of living prey, which leads to a herd behavior and, consequently, the formation of a horde.

Second, there are high-level zombies that either influence the lower-level undead with their dominant will or puppeteer them to quickly assemble a massive horde aimed at human strongholds and other points of life. With an increase in zombie rank, they gain more power over the will of lower-level zombies, puppeteering a larger number. A Level 6 zombie could easily summon a horde of over eight hundred thousand!

The third possibility is that a human survivor base is too close to a region heavily populated by zombies, with the blood and life within attracting their attention and leading to an assault by the horde.

A Level 6 zombie can summon a horde of up to nine hundred thousand, a fact that has been verified. As for Level 7 zombies, although their formidable presence had been witnessed around the world, they remained exceedingly rare and didn’t cluster like humans. Each Level 7 zombie kept a considerable distance from others. Therefore, most had never seen one with their own eyes, and Cloud Gorge Base was fortunate not to have encountered a Level 7 zombie.

The scale of a horde a Level 7 zombie could summon was unknown, but the first cause was quickly dismissed; if a zombie had designated Cloud Gorge Base as a hunting spot, its influence would surely not extend beyond ten kilometers. Yet, in Xige City, the entire city seemed driven by an obscure force!

Although Jiang City was less influenced, it too had a significant portion of its undead population drawn into the horde. Thus, the first and third possibilities were refuted, leaving only the second as a likelihood.

"Does this mean there’s a Level 7 zombie within this horde?"

"Mm."

"Coming from Xige City, without attacking the closer Dongsheng Co-management and traveling over two hundred kilometers to our location... the intent is clear, so..."

"It’s related to the Peace Party," a man with glasses finished the sentence, and everyone fell silent.

To be honest, some of those present at Cloud Gorge Base, admittedly important figures, held peculiar expressions. Most glances turned towards Nangong Yang. The enmity between the United District and Cloud Gorge Base was clear to everyone—the fact that Nangong Yang requested the aid of eight Order Enforcers, all of whom died despite causing massive losses to the United District. It was impossible not to harbor resentment.

The Peace Party was a unique force, capable of establishing a so-called peace with the zombies. No member of the Peace Party would be attacked by zombies, and some could even direct the undead to perform simple tasks.

The fact that the four-million-strong horde was attacking Cloud Gorge Base but not the closer Dongsheng Co-management was easily understood, for half of the latter’s territory was now directly governed by the Peace Party.

The group of people didn’t chat for long. Very soon, the soldiers below began to hustle, and the noise grew.

"Quick, quick, quick, the zombie birds are coming!"

People looked up to the sky and saw another large flock of birds, by which time the dense clouds overhead were layered with a thick, dark purple mass.

"Follow my command!"

"Three!"

"Two!"

"One!"

The movement of the zombie birds was fast; by the time a soldier had counted to three, the swarm had arrived less than half a kilometer from the Anti-Zombie Wall, and the soldier decisively gave the order.

"Activate!"

With that shout, a humming noise emanated from Cloud Gorge Base. From Cloud Gorge Base’s tallest structure, the Prayer Tower, a burst of light exploded from the spire, and in an instant, the light spread outwards!

In no time, Cloud Gorge Base was enveloped in an orange barrier, and the swiftly flying zombie birds failed to stop in time, slamming "bang, bang, bang" against the colossal protective shield!

Numerous zombie birds had their heads crushed askew, raining down to the earth in a drizzle.

"Fire!" bellowed the officer once more.

Following this command, dozens of blue laser beams shot from atop the Anti-Zombie Wall, soaring straight into the heavens like pillars.

Many zombie birds were seared and dropped to the ground by the hot lasers, but no one paid attention to the persistence of the horde. Despite the laser cannon’s assault, the undead birds continued to ram their heads fiercely against the barrier covering Cloud Gorge Base. In their pale avian eyes, there was only the vision of the gold-tinged wheat fields inside.
