I Am Not Goblin Slayer
Chapter 67: Goblin’s Nightmare

The goblin stood in front of the stone pot, continuously stirring its contents with a wooden stick.

Inside the stone pot was a mixture of various indescribably thick foods. Just from what could be seen, there were grains of wheat, berries, grass seeds, beetles, large green caterpillars, and so on.

All kinds of ingredients reacted strangely under the heat of the fire, releasing bursts of peculiar and pungent odors that wafted along the smoke.

But the goblin deeply sniffed the air as if it had smelled an exquisite delicacy, its face showing an expression of enjoyment.

Although the goblin’s brain capacity was small and its thinking simple, it did not prevent them from understanding the importance of fire.

Relying on the fire pit to keep the flame alive, the tribe could cook at any time and maintain a more comfortable nest environment during the cold winter.

If the fire in the fire pit unfortunately went out, they would have to steal flames from the human villages, which was a troublesome task.

At the thought of humans, the goblin cooking let out a dull stream of saliva uncontrollably.

Looking back at the food in the pot, it suddenly seemed less appetizing.

But as it thought more, another image suddenly jumped into its mind, one it could not forget.

It was a memory fragment occupying its limited brain capacity.

A group of tall humans wielding sharp weapons easily destroyed the goblin’s original tribe, with tribe members falling continuously amidst the flashing blades and flowing blood.

Under the gaze of those demonic figures, the goblin shamefully cowered in front of the cold crossbows that could slaughter its comrades with ease. Together with several other goblins, it fled recklessly into the forest, retreating farther and farther.

Eventually, not knowing how far they had traveled, they settled here.

And through the efforts of the surviving goblins, they rebuilt the tribe in the wild, despite threats from beasts.

Though the new generation of goblins were all skinny and small due to the frailty of their mothers, as long as this continued, one day they would live the good life of eating meat again.

“Hehehe...”

Thinking of the good days ahead, the goblin’s huge mouth stretched ear to ear, revealing coarse, yellow-brown crooked teeth, making its already ugly face even more fierce.

“Clatter clatter clatter!”

Footsteps approached.

The goblin cooking lifted its head and saw a green figure hurriedly rushing into view.

Upon realizing it was a tribesman, not some other creature, the goblin temporarily lowered its guard.

“Waa waa waa!”

But the panicked cries from its companion immediately tightened its nerves again.

The returning companion repeatedly shouted a word representing humans.

Humans!

Following the direction pointed by the small companion, the goblin saw a tall figure stepping out leisurely through the fallen leaves.

Sunlight poured down behind him, and an inexplicable sense of oppression grew stronger with the approaching footsteps, causing a sharp pain in the goblin’s mind.

That similar tall figure seemed to drag it back into its past nightmare!

Its two slender but firm legs trembled involuntarily.

“Magic Missile!”

A blue light sphere tore through the air, becoming the last fragment of its memory.

“Boom!”

The missile, like a sharp arrow, easily pierced its chest, sending it flying several meters away.

Gauss put away his staff.

“Killed Goblin *1”

“Total Monster Kills: 83”

Watching the goblin already collapsed on the ground, noticeably larger than its kin and whose eyes had completely lost their luster, he shifted his gaze to the distant cave.

Thinking this might be the leader of this tribe, he disliked wasting time.

The principle of capturing the king first had to be properly executed.

It could be said that the combat power of these low-tier monsters, goblins, largely depended on their “commander.”

Without a leader, goblins were just scattered sand; with a big goblin in command, the tribe could slaughter villages. If they were under a dragon’s banner, the fighting morale would rise another level, turning them into fierce and fearless warriors on the spot.

On another side, a goblin acting as the “guide” stared dumbfounded at its comrade whose chest was blown apart.

It hadn’t expected this terrifying human to stealthily follow it here.

Just as it was about to warn the other tribe members inside the cave,

a rapier sliced through its throat at the moment it rolled its throat to speak.

Its head fell to the ground and rolled away.

“Killed Goblin *1”

“Total Monster Kills: 84”

Gauss twirled his sword, flicking the bloodstains off the blade.

As the saying goes, practice makes perfect.

He felt he was becoming more and more adept at killing goblins.

Especially when one or two lone goblins appeared before him, it was almost impossible for them to survive a single encounter.

Mage Armor, Basic Swordsmanship lv1 (8/10), and the Goblin Slayer title’s nemesis effect

all gave him the potential to become a ruthless goblin-killing machine.

He glanced at the Monster Encyclopedia.

The number at the bottom right of the first goblin icon had quietly reached 45.

This meant 45 goblins had died by his hand.

But that was far from enough.

Compared to the countless goblins hiding in the wild, his number was just a drop in the ocean.

As long as his strength was sufficient, this number would rapidly increase in the future. After all, there was no Wild Goblin Protection Association in this world, and no one would come out to condemn his persecution of the goblin race.

Gauss walked to the cave entrance.

It was not a very tall cave, about only one point four meters in height.

With a thought, Mage Hand formed in front of him.

He placed a spherical object into Mage Hand, controlling it to enter the cave.

Limited by distance, after moving about ten meters away, he had to bend down and enter the cave to extend its reach.

Finally, after faintly hearing goblin noises inside, he stopped and next controlled Mage Hand to light a stink ball placed deep inside the cave with a match.

Flames clung to the stink ball, instantly engulfing it. Along with the rising fire came thick black smoke and rapidly released stifling foul odors.

“Sizzle sizzle sizzle!!!!”

A pungent smell quickly sprayed out from the porous ball, like a stink smoke bomb. The smoke drifted into the cave.

At this moment, Gauss quickly slipped out of the low cave.

He waited outside in advance for the goblins to come out.

Compared to smoke, the stink ball’s effect was more fleeting and needed to be released deep inside the cave to work well.

Though it could be lit and thrown in, there was a risk of extinguishing.

This item was something he found in a general store. Without teammates to assist on solo missions, he could only rely on magic and items to enrich his methods.

The only drawback was its price: one stink ball cost 1 silver coin.

Fortunately, the money was well spent. Not long after, the irritating smell released by the stink ball drove the goblins out from inside.

“Cough cough cough!”

The goblins rushed out of the cave, gasping for fresh air.

While they were panting heavily, a figure quietly approached.

“Slash!”

The sword light cut through skin, flesh parting as easily as tofu.

The white light-imbued rapier repeatedly slashed multiple goblins.

Some goblins tried to resist, but their claw strikes and wooden club blows were blocked by an invisible protective layer.

Gauss sheathed his sword, exhaling deeply.

Out of the corner of his eye, he saw a goblin lowering its steps and crouching, trying to sneak behind Gauss unnoticed.

“Sly little green skins.”

The next moment, a Magic Missile followed.

“Boom!”

The last goblin fell to the ground unwillingly.

“Total Monster Kills: 89”

The goblin kill count simultaneously reached 50.

After killing the last goblin, Gauss stood still, dazed for a moment.

He felt some indescribable change in his body.
