I Am Not Goblin Slayer -
Chapter 33: I Come to Assist You
The battle erupted swiftly.
Levin, standing at the very front of the team, raised his shield horizontally before him. With a powerful shout filled with spirit, he charged at the goblin formation, holding the shield firmly.
Contrary to the clumsy and rigid impression given by his tall and muscular build, Levin’s charging speed was quite fast. A faint white airflow could be seen slicing along the edges of his shield.
He was like a fully loaded heavy truck, pushing straight through the goblin ranks with the oaken greatshield as a battering ram.
Behind and to his flanks, Doyle, Gauss, and Daphne closely followed.
“Bang!”
With full force and mass, Levin collided directly with several goblins at the frontline, all holding small wooden shields.
After a very brief struggle,
Levin’s immense strength erupted like an underwater volcano!
Five shield-bearing goblins were instantly slammed and toppled by the greatshield he wielded!Gauss, following behind Levin, flashed a look of admiration in his eyes.
In actual combat, Levin’s “greatshield charge” technique was far more effective than during training—probably because having a real target to act against provided explosive feedback.
The five shield goblins tumbled out, howling miserably as they rolled on the ground, their wooden clubs and small round shields falling to the earth.
Seeing the goblins attempting to pick up their weapons and shields again,
Doyle leapt forward, raising his longsword to slash downward.
“Swish!”
A cold gleam flashed.
The next moment, a terrifying gash slashed diagonally across a goblin’s entire body from its left shoulder. The horrifying massive wound instantly drained the goblin’s strength to resist.
It was sent flying backward and never got back up.
“So fast!”
Gauss felt a little anxious.
The five shield goblins were shattered by Levin’s skill, their combat power greatly reduced.
Although his stamina was decent, his burst strength was not quite on par with Doyle’s.
By the time Gauss arrived, Doyle had already slain a goblin with a single sword strike.
Fortunately, it wasn’t too late.
One goblin in front of him was struggling to get up, clutching its wooden shield and club with its back turned.
Gauss certainly wouldn’t miss this perfect opportunity. With a combined force of his arm and wrist, his rapier thrust straight into its back.
The sharp rapier pierced its lower back effortlessly, like stabbing through tofu, then pierced through muscle, intestines, and lower abdomen.
The rapier impaled the goblin thoroughly, as if skewering it like a candied hawthorn on a stick!
“Waaah!!” The goblin, not fully standing yet, was caught off guard by this sudden sneak attack and let out a piercing scream.
Gauss controlled the rapier to swiftly twist inside the goblin’s body, then pulled it out quickly.
Thick blood mixed with an unknown brown substance oozed profusely from the wound.
“Goblin killed *1”
“Total monsters killed: 19”
Another one down!
Easily collecting kills like this brought a pleasant feeling to Gauss.
Unfortunately, before he could continue gathering more heads,
A spear-wielding goblin behind the shield goblins bypassed Levin, who was holding off a steel sword goblin, clutching its spear tightly as it rushed swiftly at Gauss!
A crooked stone spear, sharpened by being smashed, pierced toward Gauss with a strong gust of wind.
Sensing the attack, Gauss’s mind raced.
The scenery before his eyes slowed down little by little.
He was no longer the novice who relied on sneak attacks to kill goblins in this world. Facing this strike, he handled it with ease.
He stepped and dodged his body to another direction.
Then, seizing the moment when the spear goblin’s stab missed and its body stiffened,
He activated Mage Hand to pull the goblin, whose balance had not yet recovered, toward him.
Normally, this pull would have limited effect, but right now, with the enemy exhausted and powerless, it worked perfectly.
The goblin staggered and lost its footing.
“Pfft!”
Gauss’s rapier pierced the goblin’s lower abdomen again, twisting and then withdrawing, executing the move with fluid grace.
His experience killing goblins was growing.
“Goblin killed *1”
“Total monsters killed: 20”
Gauss’s gaze quickly scanned the battlefield.
Suddenly, he spotted Doyle knocking a goblin flying along with its shield, heading right toward his direction.
“I’m coming to help you!”
Before Doyle could reach it, Gauss strode over quickly.
His rapier pierced through the heart area of the goblin temporarily incapacitated on the ground.
Pierce! Twist!
“Goblin killed *1”
“Total monsters killed: 21”
Doyle blinked when he saw this.
“Thanks.”
He felt something was off but decided not to dwell on it.
Since Gauss helped, they should quickly finish off the remaining goblins.
......
Less than ten minutes passed in the blink of an eye.
The battle ended quickly.
Gauss raised an eyebrow as he looked at the scattered green-skinned corpses and body parts on the ground.
He calmed his breathing.
This fight was unexpectedly easy, so easy it was almost unbelievable.
Maybe this was the power of teamwork efficiency?
Besides the extra goblin Doyle “supported” by snatching one more kill, Gauss also used Magic Missile to remotely kill an archer goblin that targeted him.
In this few-minute frontal battle, utilizing team advantages—especially the openings created by Levin and Doyle—he had easily slain five goblins in total.
The monster kill count had reached 23.
Almost half of the target stage of 50.
Looking back, the only real danger in the entire fight was that last arrow shot by the archer goblin aiming at him.
But he had predicted and dodged it, the arrow narrowly grazing his gauntlet.
Fortunately, his leather armor was sturdy, so he wasn’t injured.
Soon after, he retaliated with a Magic Missile, blasting the archer goblin to death.
Thinking it over, after ambushing and killing six goblins without injury, only 14 goblins remained.
Their squad had six members in total. Except for Daphne, whose frontline combat ability was slightly weaker, everyone had a huge advantage facing goblins.
Each person possessed one or two attributes surpassing the average human level, wore leather armor or better protection, was stronger and faster, and had well-maintained sharp weapons.
Such a power gap could not be compensated for by 14 versus 6 in numbers.
They swiftly finished off the goblins, rested on the spot briefly, then began cleaning up the battlefield calmly.
First, they collected the quest items—the goblins’ left ears.
Armed with daggers and knives, each person skillfully cut off the wide and sharp left ears from the goblins.
From their practiced movements, it was clear that everyone present except Gauss was experienced—no one knew how many goblin ears they had cut before.
They gathered the ears into small bags, which soon bulged full.
This task paid quite well—each goblin’s bounty was one silver coin.
This small bag was worth 20 silver coins.
Each person would get about three coins plus a bit more.
It didn’t sound like much, but in other words, this reward was enough for Gauss to live at Sophia’s Inn with meals included and do nothing for two months.
And they only needed to be out for three days, most of which was spent traveling. Actual work time—scouting, setting traps, killing monsters—was less than two hours combined.
Work three days, relax for two months. If the old unemployed experts from Gauss’s previous life knew this, even if it was risky, they might be tempted to rush over with their buckets.
Moreover, their gains were far from limited to this.
The goblin loot—the weapons—could sell for a good amount. Although this wasn’t included in the reward, it was also very substantial.
The only regret Gauss had was that the two most valuable steel swords were badly damaged and probably wouldn’t fetch a very high price.
