Chapter 71: 70 Chapters: The Call of Duty
In that moment, Wei Tianyang shifted into objective reality and transformed into a moth, soaring into the sky to position himself hundreds of meters up and away from the platform.
Then, he shifted back to subjective reality, his body heavy as he began to plunge downward.
Once reaching a certain height, the surface tension of the water would make the sea as hard as steel; jumping from a hundred meters high could either break legs or kill upon impact.
The same was true in reverse, the water pillar smashing onto the platform was no different from a thousand-ton steel bar; even the steel pillars supporting the platform groaned under the strain.
He watched as thousand-ton water pillars crushed the platform, hammering the aggressive soldiers and Moby Dick’s bodyguards into a pulp. Then, all that rainwater spread out in every direction, sweeping the corpses of the soldiers off the platform.
A large portion of water flooded into the elevator and the iron stairway entrances, sweeping Yaha and others down the stairs. The elevator could not withstand the impact, its glass cabin shattered like a water balloon plummeting down the elevator shaft, and the enclosed staircase was suddenly inundated, turning it into a water well.
Having returned to subjective reality, Wei Tianyang had plummeted below the platform.
A dazzling green light flashed before his eyes, followed by a whoosh.
He heard a swoosh, and suddenly, his left cheek stung fiercely—blood spurted, blurring his vision.
Wei Tianyang spun in midair, then shifted into objective reality once again.
After transforming into a moth, he landed softly, looking up to see scattered remnants of shadows suspended midair.
He wiped his face, feeling the graze on his cheek.
It was a bullet...
With renewed vigor, Wei Tianyang turned into a moth, flew up to the mortars’ high ground, and sure enough, the mortar team was dead. A slender silhouette crouched on the edge of a hillock, manning a large sniper rifle.
"Damn... definitely the superpower special forces sent by Tiantai Pharmaceutical!"
Wei Tianyang inwardly cursed, drew out his Bone Knife, approached the shadow from behind, and readied his hand to shift out of objective reality.
The scenery changed abruptly; at his feet lay a woman, wrapped in a black bodysuit, her hair in a ponytail, slim figure, with a box of spare sniper rifle bullets beside her.
Die!
Wei Tianyang swung his Bone Knife downward, but in that instant, electricity coursed under his feet, the pain shooting up through his nerves to his chest!
His legs gave out, and he collapsed to one knee. Looking closely, he saw thin cables buried under the thin layer of dirt around the woman.
The woman was equally startled, not expecting Wei Tianyang to appear behind her, but she was well-trained. While checking her surroundings, her right hand left the sniper rifle and drew the dagger hanging from her collar, slashing it towards Wei Tianyang’s neck.
In a desperate reflex, Wei Tianyang blocked the strike with his left hand; the blade plunged directly into his palm, held by the bones.
Excruciating pain caused his left arm to spasm; the woman kicked him in the abdomen, launching him far away. Then, she turned, drew a pistol from her thigh holster with her left hand, and aimed it at his chest.
In that instant, Wei Tianyang’s eyes brightened furiously, the ground shook suddenly, and black mud rose like a giant python that coiled around the woman, lifting her into the air.
Her face was masked, and her chest bulged as she gasped for air, squinting her eyes, enduring the hard stones in the mud crushing her body. The dagger fell, her right hand empty.
Wei Tianyang flipped to his feet, his Bone Knife extending, slicing upward from below along the ground’s black mud, clawing towards the woman.
The sharp Bone Knife tore through the mud binding her and the black bodysuit wrapping her body—the chest jolted and blood splattered.
He could feel the touch of his fingertips probing into the woman’s muscles, the slippery intestines and inner organs passing through his fingers, but in the last moment, the woman arched her body back and raised her right hand towards the sky, screamed, and then disappeared right in front of Wei Tianyang’s eyes.
Before him, only bloodstains, a few shreds of a skintight suit, and the woman’s left-behind sniper rifle remained.
He carefully picked up the coil of the induction wire from the ground with his Bone Knife and tossed it down the slope, then among the bloodstains, he saw a small, crushed vial of antidote syringe.
"Indeed, it’s the Superpower Special Department, hiding in objective reality," Wei Tianyang muttered to himself.
He also entered into objective reality, and there, he saw the woman covering her chest and abdomen, sitting next to a chitin protrusion a few steps away.
The woman was severely injured, the cut on her abdomen was extremely deep, her intestines were spilling out, and the cut on her chest was deep enough to reveal bones, her body smeared red with blood mixed with fatty fluid. She had already removed the mask that hindered her breathing, her lips pursed, blood hanging from her chin, her eyes tightly shut, her eyebrows slightly furrowed, breathing weakly.
As if expecting Wei Tianyang to follow her, she said, "You know... we can’t hurt each other here, right?"
Wei Tianyang said, "Even if I don’t lay a hand on you, you won’t live long."
"Huh... uh... are you Ishmael?" the woman asked.
Wei Tianyang hummed in affirmation.
"Mud Man mentioned you... he worked with you... uh..." the woman said and, leaning forward, vomited a pool of blood, her abdominal pressure pushing out a bit more of her intestines.
"Tiantai Pharmaceutical sent you here?" Wei Tianyang asked.
"...Hmph... you know... I can’t tell you anything... and I’m about to die... torture is pointless," the woman said.
She looked up at Wei Tianyang, her pupils devoid of murderous intent or fear, rather tranquil.
"Ishmael... our mission is already complete... now... it’s time to answer the call of duty..." the woman said painfully.
She pulled out a blood-stained, folded piece of paper from her bosom and handed it to Wei Tianyang.
Wei Tianyang stepped closer, took the paper, and unfolded it, discovering several coordinates written on it.
"What is this...?" Wei Tianyang asked.
"In this nation’s objective reality... the unclean elements that haven’t been purged yet... I intended... to handle them... now, it’s up to you..." the woman said.
"The mission..." Wei Tianyang trembled slightly.
"Ishmael... in the subjective reality, we kill each other for our country, our missions, and political stances... but here, we are soldiers without nationality... MSF’s mission... don’t forget it..." the woman said.
Wei Tianyang hurriedly crouched down, but the woman had already stopped breathing, her eyes drooping, her hands slowly sliding from the wounds on her chest and abdomen.
Subsequently, black blood vapor rose from her body, like a black snake, twined around Wei Tianyang’s right arm, then burrowed into his palm.
An unusual feeling surged through his heart.
He looked at the paper in his hand, sighed, and gently closed the woman’s eyes.
The woman exited objective reality because of death, and Wei Tianyang also returned to subjective reality, the woman lying right at his feet.
He carefully examined the woman’s body, finding some miscellaneous items and a mobile phone from her right arm and thigh packs.
Using the dead woman’s fingerprint to unlock the phone, the most recent call log showed "Daughter."
