Chapter 145: Chapter 143 Difficult to Be a Secretary

Since meeting with Zhao Ling, the Emperor of Yin, a week had passed.

Wei Tianyang had thought that after turning down Zhao Ling, he would be expelled from the country; at the very least, his treatment would be downgraded, moving him out of the Jade Pavilion.

However, during this time, the high standard of treatment not only continued but was even slightly higher than during the first days of his arrival.

The personnel delivering meals to Wei Tianyang were no longer from the Jade Pavilion but were clad in deep blue brocade uniforms from the Inner Guards of the Lingxiao Palace. The already strong security forces of the Jade Pavilion had been epically enhanced, with four hidden Superpower Special Departments deployed here, and all of the streets below filled with regular troops.

The confidential secretary who usually stayed close to Zhao Ling had been reassigned to the room next to Wei Tianyang’s as his personal consultant. According to her, Wei Tianyang’s food, housing, and personal safety were all treated at the level of an Emperor.

All these grand words meant nothing; Wei Tianyang knew clearly that those people were assigned here merely to watch over him. As for the hospitality concerning food and drink, it was far too simple for a powerful state like Yin to provide care to one individual...

Although they did not say it explicitly, they surely did not wish for Wei Tianyang to go outside. Nonetheless, Wei Tianyang still teleported out of the Jade Pavilion every evening and roamed the streets aimlessly. Of course, he was aware that they knew he went out every evening. His room was full of cameras, and both the corridors of the Jade Pavilion and the streets were under their scrutiny.

During the first few nights, he had gone out on his own, but later, tired of pretending, he started to leave via the elevator from the main door in a flamboyant fashion with Yaha in tow.

Zhao Ling had not provided him with a car, nor could he drive, but he could carry Yaha into objective reality and then simply jump down a well—that’s how casual it was.

After playing around like this for two days, the confidential secretary became somewhat displeased. She rarely greeted Wei Tianyang and always had a cold demeanor, but she had made quite a few arrangements privately.

The shops that Wei Tianyang had visited the previous evening, upon his next visit, he found that they had added a few Superpower Special Department operatives in plain clothes, and all his expenses there were covered.

The street vendor from which he bought takoyaki for Yaha had changed to the confidential secretary the next time he visited.

Consequently, strolling around lost its fun and became particularly awkward.

The confidential secretary, wearing a pink apron and a paper cap, clumsily sprinkled cumin on the burnt octopus tentacles.

"Do you want some chili?" the confidential secretary asked, looking up.

"Is all this really necessary? I can’t just stay in my room all day," Wei Tianyang sighed.

"For the safety of Yin’s citizens and your own, this is necessary, cough cough..." the confidential secretary said.

"I understand, you’re worried Fengrao City will become the next Wuliang City. I’m not a murderer; I have no interest in killing people unless someone has a death wish. I don’t need anyone to protect me," Wei Tianyang said.

"You underestimate your importance and overestimate your ability," the confidential secretary pushed up her glasses and unbuttoned one button at her chest due to the high temperature near the griddle. Unused to hard labor, she felt uncomfortable just standing there.

"You see me only as a weapon, what kind of importance is that? Moreover, if I survived in the chaotic Chicken Snake Country, surely the capital of Yin Country is not more dangerous than Kongse, right?" Wei Tianyang said.

"There are many Western spies within the country keeping an eye on you. These past few days, the Emperor has executed thousands of spies suspected of harboring intentions to harm you. Those wanting you dead won’t wave in front of you. Do you think the security at the Jade Pavilion was enhanced just to watch over you? We’ve even arranged a double for you..." the confidential secretary asserted seriously.

"You needn’t bother. If someone wants me dead, let them try," Wei Tianyang said.

He led Yaha through the crowd, but Yaha was still fixated on the octopus tentacles on the griddle and wouldn’t move.

"It’s burned, no good to eat, I’ll take you somewhere else," Wei Tianyang pinched Yaha’s cheek and, wrapping an arm over her shoulder, walked into the bustling throng.

The confidential secretary sighed, tossed the octopus tentacles into the trash, and her phone vibrated in her pocket. She lightly tapped her earpiece, and Zhao Ling’s voice came through:

"He went out tonight, didn’t he?"

The confidential secretary reflexively bowed and said, "I’m personally keeping an eye on him."

"My order was to prevent him from leaving the house," Zhao Ling’s tone was somewhat displeased.

"I... I will do my utmost to ensure he stays in his room tomorrow night." The confidential secretary’s forehead glistened with sweat, her delicate face showing a bitter expression.

"In the past two days, when he went out, he didn’t teleport. Instead, he left through the main door. Do you know what that means?" Zhao Ling asked.

"He doesn’t take me seriously..." the confidential secretary said in a low voice.

"You fucking know and you still don’t think of a solution? Like an idiot, you still follow him around? With all the cameras and drones in Fengrao City, do you need to act like an idiot and follow him? How the hell do you do your job? If he teleported out of the house, that would be one thing, but now he just walks out the main door. Are you brain-dead, can’t you understand my orders? Or is there a problem with your abilities?" Zhao Ling cursed with a lazy and arrogant tone.

The confidential secretary bowed repeatedly to thin air, her voice solemn, "Your Majesty... I understand... I’m too stupid... I’ll definitely think of another way..."

"No need to think." Zhao Ling said.

The secretary’s complexion changed, and her legs gave way as she knelt on the ground. Her heart wouldn’t stop racing, and her hands trembled as she removed her earpiece and brought her phone to her ear. Could it be... could it be that she was going to...

"I’ll tell you a trick," Zhao Ling continued.

The secretary let out a breath, closed her eyes, and one hand covered her chest as if she had just survived a life-threatening ordeal, lucky to be alive. Now she felt completely drained, her back soaked with cold sweat.

"Wear something sexier, pin him to the bed, and let him have you, every single night," Zhao Ling said.

"He... he doesn’t like mature women..." the secretary said.

"You can follow him around, but can’t you bring a few young girls to block the door? I suspect he’s a virgin who hasn’t yet experienced the joy of conjugal bliss. Lead him into it; surely you don’t need me to teach you how to be with a man?" Zhao Ling said.

The secretary hurriedly said, "Don’t worry, Your Majesty! I am very good at this..."

"I know you’re good at this; otherwise, you wouldn’t have the life you do, serving as my secretary," Zhao Ling said with a sneer.

The secretary nodded, "What Your Majesty says is right... Thank you for the praise, Your Majesty."

"He’s a blank slate; don’t be coy, don’t pity yourself too much. You got that?" Zhao Ling said.

"I understand," the secretary said.

...

Wei Tianyang walked down the street with Yaha, holding a bag of kabobs and a milk tea. He fed Yaha grilled meat while wiping her mouth; though she was clearly in her twenties, she acted like a child.

"I looked after you before, now it’s my turn to take care of you." He squatted down, wiped her mouth, and smiled.

Suddenly, Wei Tianyang thought of something. He stood up, walked over to the railing, and looked down at the city’s lowest tier. A blast of warm air surged up from below, fluttering his bangs.

"Let’s go, Yaha. Let’s go down and have a look," he said with a smile.
